There are a number of exploits that hackers can use to exploit the Indexing Service to find server-side source code. In addition, there are a couple of known buffer-overflow attacks against the Indexing Service. If you are not using this service, it is recommended that you remove it. To remove the Indexing Service from your WinXP web server: 1.) Click on "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel". 2.) Double click on the "Add/Remove Programs" Icon.
3.) Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" as shown in the figure.
4.) Remove the check mark from the "Indexing Service" item as shown in the figure.
5.) Click on the "Next" button. | |
