  1. We have upgraded SCCM from R2 to R2 w/ SP1 and CU1, we have not done CU2 yet, although I don't see fixes for these two issues listed in there.

Issue 1. Anyone that is not a full admin (maybe more accurately, anyone set up with custom security) cannot deploy a task sequence with a required purpose. If they set the purpose as available, they can deploy it fine. This was working fine prior to the upgrade. What happens is when they hit the NEXT button on the deployment settings screen, it pauses a moment like it is processing, then refreshes to the same screen.

Issue 2. Software inventory processing on the primary sites takes 30 seconds up to 1:30 to process a file single file, resulting in a backlog. Typically its around a minute per file. Again working fine prior to the upgrade. These are all delta as far as I can tell.

    Any help is appreciated!

  2. I agree with Garth, what is the business need there? What are you trying to accomplish?

But ultimately you should be able to do this with a scope and role. Create a scope and role, assign the query permissions as applicable. You would probably want a couple of Roles and scopes, one role for read and one for write, one scope for read and then an individual scope for each group. Give the pre canned queries access to the read scope. Then assign the group to the write scope. That should allow them to create queries and edit them.

With this set up, other groups will only be able to read the queries created by the group if the group goes into their created query and assigns the read scope.

I would have to mess around with it, but just go in and start trying some things and see if you can get it to work for you.

  3.

That's the thing though, the problem isn't booting to USB. The Surface will boot to USB, I'll diskpart the hard drive, and run the task sequence. I come to a step where I remove the USB drive and select reboot, and it should boot to the WinPE environment that's been copied to the hard drive. That is where the process fails, because it only boots to the BIOS. It I re-insert the USB drive it'll boot to that just fine. Besides, after updating the firmware it started behaving exactly as the others had.

Try formatting the surface drive with a partition. Then boot to USB again. We have seen issues exactly as you explain them and this worked for us.

  4. Hi all,

We are having two issues, similar, in a way, but I do not think related.

One is that we have a DP trying to verify the content of a package that no longer exists.

Failed to validate package "PackageID" on distribution point "["Display=\\DP2\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=NPS"]\\DP2\". The package may not be present or may be corrupt. Please redistribute it.

We have two DPs and this only happens on DP#2

Second is that colleval tries to distribute a package that does not exist.

CCEPSource::GetCollectionInfo:- Collection Not Found with CollectionID=545

    CEP-ErrorCode=-2016280319

CEP-Failed to process Collection Extended Properties changes, Status = COLLECTION NOT FOUND FOREIGN KEY CONSTRAINTS, changes will be retried on next processing cycle.

Sounds like something with the DB table to me.

In monitoring, the component status for colleval has this error about 3 times a minute.

Collection Evaluator failed to process Collection Settings changes. These changes will be retried on next processing cycle.

Solution: Review the previous status messages and logs for further clarification about this problem.

    This is message ID 2548

There is no previous error with any information.

    Any help is appreciated!!!

  5. So far OSD has been going along just fine, now WinPE blue screens with an error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL on Dells. I have

Created a new boot image with no extra drivers (did not work)

Create a new boot image with no extra drivers and no Nomad Add Ins (did not work)

Create a driver with ONLY dell WinPE drivers (worked)

Imported those dell PE drivers into our prod boot image. Now new Lenovo Models blue screen, as well as Dells still. If I leave a separate boot image only for Dell with Dell PE drivers, it works fine.

I removed the drivers from PROD and new Lenovo models boot and starts the image fine.

This is a huge PITA and something we have never had to do before. Am I missing some new details here with Win PE5? The new model lines? SCCM 2012 R2 with CU3.

Models tested are the Lenovo X250 and T450s and the new Dell Latitude E7440s. It does not seem to effect older models, but I cannot 100% confirm that yet. I saw one article that said it was because our images were captured in SCCM 2007 and need to be recaptured in SCCM 2012. I did that and it did not fix anything.

  6. Sample from the NomadBranch.log file

Again, this all looks completely normal to me. The data was not local so it was coming back to our Corporate office to get the content.

  7. As far as I know and have ever experienced Nomad only detects congestion on the local client, not on the WAN link itself, or any appliances for that matter. So it is very possible for it to be killing the WAN while clients are thinking they are OK, due to the fact that the local NIC is not having issues, its on the WAN/LAN end. From my network admin

The Fortigate sits in-line between the router and the Core switch so basically it scans all traffic to and from a location.

The Fortigate only takes action if the traffic matches a signature for AV, IPS or web filtering. The main purpose is to protect a site

at the gateway from getting virus, worms, intrusions, etc from the outside or from another Parker location. Also, if a device becomes infected

at a location, then the Fortigate will block that device from spreading it to other Parker locations.

So to me, this sounds like the traffic does not matter which protocol we used, that it gets scanned regardless. So it wouldn't matter how we transported SCCM data. They can exclude traffic from the Fortigate, but would have to go to each of our 200+ sites and do so. Again they don't always answer 100% or give all information, so we have to do a lot of digging and prying to figure out what is really going on.

I do know for a fact the WAN was down/dropping packets.

So still after I processed all the information, there is still not a problem. I think the real issues is simply congestion and SCCM happened to be involved in that, just like all other traffic going out and coming in.

Regardless I am having him monitor a few locations to see what they see.

  8. Yeah I will log a ticket with support if needed. I turned on HTTP again as it caused problems like we figured it would.

Yesterday I pushed back on our network team forcing them to explain why SCCM was the issue. They really didn't have an answer other than at that point in time a pc was downloading data, and of course I got the information two days later.

The appliance is a Fortigate. I can get more detailed information if needed. The fortigate is running at 100%. Again I can get more detailed information. Basically what happens is the amount of traffic going through it causes overload and it cant keep up, in turn killing the WAN link.

I will see if the nomad log rolled over yet, but I should be able to grab it.

I think right now I will stand pat and leave everything as I had it. If it happens again I can log a ticket with Support.

Thank you guys for the assist!

  9. The problem we are having is that we use Nomad and at this time it almost always defaults to HTTP for downloading over the WAN. This is fine except we have some network appliances where this could cause them to run up to 100% utilization.

I feel this can be easily done via IIS rights, but I am not that great with IIS yet. If I disable IIS on our DPs it moves to SMB and everything is fine except for all the other components that use IIS on those servers.

Is it possible to just disable HTTP for content download and force it to SMB?

  10. We do what Mike said. It is really simple and keeps things organized. When an old update gets superseded or expired it is a quick process to remove the update. I probably spend 10-15 minutes a month doing updates after the initial setup, it really isn't that bad anymore in 2012.

  11. If you are using the dock make sure the latest firmware is installed for the Surface.

Also there is also an issue where the Surface comes shipped with an incorrect time. Log into command prompt and change it to the correct time. We see this on about half of the ones we receive.

Edit, we are booting these all with the boot media at this time.
