  1. If you are still having this problem, I suspect that the "Failed" status has an associated registry key. If this is true, you could rather easily extend your hardware class and capture the it via hardware inventory. Then, it is simply a case of creating a collection based on this key.

if you still need this, take a look at my friend Victor's post here: http://www.esebenza.com/configuration-manager/collecting-registry-keys-with-sccm-2012/.

let me know if you have any questions.

  2. You see it all the time regarding device collections in SCCM... how to setup a best practice hierarchy of collections, not to use the All Systems as your sole limiting collection and so on and so forth. But what about the User and User Group side? I set out to discover a best practice for this "other side of the road" and have amazingly come up with very little to back what will be my suggestion to my client of how to reconfigure their entire collection hierarchy. With roughly 1800 incremental collections, any suggestions will be a huge help!

But I am now truly intrigued by what would be the best practice, not just by theory, but by way of real world experience examples. Does anyone have something they could contribute here to help me (and others i assume) out?

Shooting from my proverbial hip, I had come to conclusion that aligning the methodology of the device collection data i have mined would be my best solution:

    1. Initial tier – composed of built-in collections
      • All Users/All User Groups/All Users & User Groups
    2. Second tier (3-5 collections +/-) – composed of broad groupings and incremental updates enabled
      • Collections would branch off to provide the buffer/distance between
      • ?Best practice? Span off only “all users” or “all user groups” leaving only these 2 to limiting off “All Users and User Groups”??
    3. Third tier (10-???) – composed of more granular to very specific collections and minimal use of incremental collections
      • This would include software installs/uninstalls
      • This would comprise the vast majority
    4. Fourth tier (minimal) – composed of one offs

So, I open the floor and can honestly say I am looking forward to some WELL BACKED OPINIONS! Oh and thank you in advance!!

i hadn't received any feedback on TechNet so I thought "The Noob" might have the magic!

  3. Thank you for the reply Peter. I plaid with the AD this AM by adding in the additional attributes and re-ran the discover (pulling in the newly created/discovered data). the only thing remaining is the presentation of the data. I am looking for reports that can retrieve the data but it is looking more and more like i am going to have to create a custom solution there.

  4. Hi All:

I have a client that is currently using VMware vCenter Configuration Manager. They are looking to convert over to SCCM 2012 SP1 assuming they can maintain some key functionality. What I am down to is the ability they currently have in VCM to input custom information/data (i.e. server owner, etc) directly into the console. Does ANYone know of a way to accomplish this in SCCM 2012? I have racked my brain trying to find somewhere to do so.

If this is absolutely impossible, I am then looking at what other options there may be. One option that comes to mind would be the "Managed By" tab in AD. If i suggest they utilize this second option, how and where can I get this to populate in the console of SCCM???

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards,

  5. RESOLVED

Managed to reconfigured the SSB port on the CAS then uninstalled the 2 primaries. Re-installed CM12 with new site codes and the proper SSB port.

There was an additional challenge with the SCCM 2012 prerequisite failing with CM DB already residing on the SQL cluster. Although the DB had been removed the following registry keys in BOLD need to be deleted:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_<SITESERVERNAME>]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\OperationsManagement\Components\SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_<SITESERVERNAME>]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Tracing\SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_<SITESERVERNAME>]

  6. SITE

I have a site with a CAS and two primary sites running SCCM
2012 SP1. Each site server has it’s DB
located on a dedicated remote SQL cluster running SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2.

    Problem:

During the installation of each server, the Service Broker
Port was incorrectly configured with port 1433 (rather than the default
4022). Due to this mistake, the
replication between the site servers is not working. Both Primary sites are in read-only mode due
to the initial replication with the CAS not taking place.

The link between the CAS and the primary sites is showing
    as:

fom the CAS: Link is being configured. In initializing data between the parent site
    and the child site

from the Primary: Link Unknown. Link state is unknown

    Question:

    How can this be resolved???

    1. Changing the the default port for SQL?

    2. Changing the SSB port on the SQL?

    3. If creating a new SQL instance and running a repair to
point CM at the new DB instance and changing the SSB port?

    4. Wiping it all down and starting over?

  7. Garth:

What I mean is I will have the need to perform and Edition Change from SQL Standard to Enterprise. It is not a reinstall of SQL, it is a maintenance task.. Here is a URL that discusses it:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc707783(v=sql.105).aspx

The client Is at 45k but growth is expected and therefore it begs the question of whether or not you are stuck with a specific SQL Edition choice at initial install.

    Thank you for the reply,

  8. I am working at a client site and have run into some hardware procurement challenges. In order to keep the project in forward motinon a workaround was offered but it would require that CM '12 use a SQL 2008 R2 Standard instance temporarily. I have been unable to verify that upgrading an exisitng SQL 2008 R2 Standard edition to Enterprise at a later dat is supported.

Can anyon confirm that this is supported and if so point me at the documentation that verifies this?

Thank you to any and all in advance!

  9. Kingskawn: Yes, if you are referring to the drivercatalog.log. from initial post:

In the DriverCatalog.log on the SCCM server I see the following:

This driver does not have a valid version signature.

Failed to initialize driver digest. Code 0xe0000102

Oneone Yes, using 7-zip. i thought maybe using a different utility might be part of it but I had complete success with the 380 CAB using the exact same process....

  10. ***UPDATE***

So I tried importing the Optiplex 390 CAB and received the same failure for every single driver; however, when importing the Optiplex 380....every driver imported perfectly, except for 1 that failed. This would lead me to believe it to be an issue with the CAB drivers for these particular models.... As soon as I can find out which CAB file and model the gentleman on TechNet was able to successfully import I should be able to validate this.

  11. From a response to a post i have on TechNet:

I've just downloaded the latest version and imported the drivers to my lab.

All drivers was imported successfully. (I only tested Windows 7 x64 drivers).

What OS version did you import drivers for?

I have not verified he used the same CAB I was trying but I awaiting a reply regarding this. I am going to test other models to see if this is isolated to the E6510

  12. Thank you for the replies gentlemen. The link to the .CAB I was trying to use is: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/2090.latitude-e6510-windows-7-driver-cab.aspx

The ST Micro driver in this CAB is the ONLY one that worked for me.Every single driver other than that one failed. I just find it hard to believe that nothing else in that CAB is legit

    Niall:

I look forward to your results!!!

  13. I am attempting to import Dell E6510 CAB drivers into SCCM 2012 but everyone of them fails except for the ST Micro driver. Upon completing the import wizard the failure gives the following error:

The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver.

In the DriverCatalog.log on the SCCM server I see the following:

This driver does not have a valid version signature.

Failed to initialize driver digest. Code 0xe0000102

Is there a setting in SCCM to accept unsigned drivers during the import process or something that I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
