  1. We just recently started moving our environment into intune for a ~2500+ device deployment for teachers/admin/students.  We have a Hybrid AD Domain Join step that starts it and joins it to our on premises AD.  We have ad sync /azure connect going where it syncs with on-prem.

    Our goal is to have the users turn a computer on and through OOBE login and as immediately as possible have onedrive / all o365 apps linked up and most importantly have it automatically sync the known folders (documents/pictures/videos/etc) to the onedrive location.

    The Hybrid AD Domain Join step works like a charm.  Then the user logs in and after it loads the profile it gives the "Select here to fix your credentials.  Or, go to settings > Accounts > Access work or school settings, and select Sign in again to fix your work or school account.

    thumbnail image 1 of blog post titled Config Profile OneDrive auto Sync and Folder Redirect issues - "Select here to fix your credentials"

    If I reboot the computer, sometimes this goes away completely.  Sometimes it takes 2-3 reboots.  If the user clicks it and logs in, usually onedrive will then kick in via the configuration profile we have setup to 1) login / start syncing one drive and 2) silently redirect folders to onedrive locations.  Unfortunately, neither of these work immediately...some take 3-4 reboots.

    In our on-premises group policy, we have the Intune Device Enrollment group policy applied to "Enable automatic MDM enrollment using default Azure AD credentials.  The option for "Select Credential Type to Use is set to "User Credential", not Device Credential.

    I don't have anything in the MDM Application ID.  I'm guessing this is correct?

    I'm grasping at straws to get this as seamless as possible, so any help to get this streamlined would be greatly appreciated.

    Is there anything I'm missing?  I feel like this is something that should be an easy fix that i'm just overlooking.

    Thank you!

  2. I need some help :)

    I upgraded to current branch 2006 and now pxe is broken.  I updated from 1806 directly to 2006.  I upgraded windows ADK and and WinPE and deleted all old boot images, now I have them in SCCM as the only images (both x64 and x86).  I've distributed them to my distribution points, it immediately says it's successful to my main sccm server/distribution point but it fails to distribute to my remote DPs.  I'll get to that later.

    I've enabled PXE on the distribution point and I checked the box to "enable pxe support for clients" and everything else on this page is checked including "Enable a PXE responder without windows deployment service".

    I do NOT have a remoteinstall folder any longer, which i know is correct since i'm not using WDS, and the main DP DOES have the ConfigMgr PXE Responder Service now and is running.

    I'm getting hella errors on smspxe.log and i don't know what to do going forward.  I honestly feel like the new boot image files are not in a place where they can be read and used and I'm stuck.

    Here's the errors i'm getting in smspxe.log when I try to do a pxe boot:

    I've uninstalled pxe/reinstalled and deleted the boot images and re-added them / redistributed them and i'm stuck. Anyone have any clues/pointers?  This is for k-12 education and we're behind on needing to reimage laptops for some students.  Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

  3. Hey everyone,

    I'm working on a way to create a more mobile OSD task sequence, and for my environment..I have it working exactly how I need it to...but I'm wanting to tweak it a bit. I need some help though.

    I work in education, and we have 2-3000 laptops throughout our district. I have a task sequence that runs 100% wireless from a USB stick. What I would LOVE to be able to do is the following:

    Step one of the task sequence : Wipe all partition data on hard drive

    Step two of the task sequence : Create a "xGB" sized partition that will house the entire task sequence data/packages. The rest of the task sequence will reference this drive, as well as provide all the files required for the task sequence.

    Step three : it lays down the rest of the task sequence just as it does now off of a USB drive, except the "USB Drive" is replaced by the partition / data listed in the second step.

    Thoughts?

    I know this is probably possible, I just do not have the proper terminology / process down.

    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

  4. Everyone,

    I've been on a mission to get a wireless task sequence working off of a USB jump drive/Stand-alone media OSD scenario, and i'm 99% there. I still have some long-term tweaks, but I am pretty pleased with it so far. The only thing I cannot get going is the computer rename script I have that works FLAWLESSLY over the wire, but since i'm having to join the wireless profile at the end of the task sequence I have to put the Gather/rename script there as well since it pulls our computer-name prefix based on gateway/site IP. This is all done through a custom customsettings.ini file on the gather / process rules step.

    The task sequence ends successfully, but the computer is not renamed. I look at the smsts.log in windows\ccm\logs and it shows where it goes through my gather phase and computes the OSDComputerName correctly, but it doesn't rename it. It then seems to finish the gather step and move on to my domain join step and eventual reboot/task sequence being completed, successfully.

    Here's the end of the log:

    I know this is something i'm missing, something very logical I should get about the placement but alas I do not.

    Can anyone help me on how I can get this last step going?

    TIA!

  5. Thanks so much, I appreciate the input/explainaion

    For the purposes of this deployment, would it be possible to do this as an offline install via USB, but somehow adding the final steps of joining our wireless profile, then adding it to our domain only over wireless? I only ask this bc I know we eventually will have to do a mass upgrade/osd task sequence and taking USB adapters around to 200+ devices will take forever quickly.

    I can't help but hope somethings coming down the pipe for wireless osd, since the number of Ethernet wired devices is decreasing

    Not trying to be stubborn, just curious :)

    Thanks!

  6. Revisiting this, I was curious if there was anyone out there that could help?

    Long story short i'm trying to get a task sequence together that will allow me to reimage a tablet/laptop device, which does not have an ethernet port...wireless only, and do the full task sequence...including joining the wifi profile (which we do already in our existing task sequence) and then joining the domain once connected to wifi.

    It seems simple, but it's just not working here.

    Any suggestions?

  7. I am having issues getting my standard way of reference imaging working, since this computer does not have an ethernet adapter.

    I may be overlooking something very simple, but I don't have a Lenovo Ethernet adapter so I am unable to pxe. If i'm not going the route of complete image / almost exactly like duplicating the harddrive, I need help getting a full offline image working (USB Adapter) where it will successfully lay down the image, software, drivers, but then join wireless network so it can join the domain and install sccm client/etc.

    Is there a straight out of the box option using MDT?

  8. Is there a way to take a full complete image for an offline kit that grabs all drivers/programs/everything where I could boot off a USB jump drive and copy the reference image byte for byte over to another identical machine?

    Example, we just bought 200 Lenovo Yoga 12 Tablets, all wireless (no ethernet) and I need to make a reference image to copy.

    It shouldn't be this hard, but i'm running into a lot of issues.

    If you can recommend a way to make a full reference image, i'm all ears. I know i'm making this harder than it should be.

    Thanks!

  9. I am trying to implement USMT into my task sequence, and it's failing on the capture state stage.

  10. Good morning,

    I have been working on getting an offline OSD task sequence working for some Lenovo Yoga 12 tablets we just purchased, and I do not want to go the route of doing them via ethernet dongle. I've got it to where it will go through the entire task sequence, but something weird is happening that I'm sure will be obvious to someone out there that can help. It goes through the entire task sequence, and when it gets to the end it has added the wireless profile and is connected, but the following has failed:

    1) For some reason the local administrator account has a blank password, AND is disabled. The task sequence is set to set our specific administrator password. Not sure why this fails?

    2) The last step before a restart is to join the domain, which fails for some reason. When it finishes the task sequence, it does not show any errors. It shows up at the login screen, which no logins will work. It does show that it's connected to our wifi at the bottom, which has connectivity to our domain controllers.

    Here's a pic of our task sequence order:

    Do i have something out of order, or just done completely wrong?

    Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

    One thing I found online was this:

    https://sevenitblog.com/2014/05/26/sccm2012-antivirus-exclusions-common-0x80004005-error-hash-mismatch-or-content-mismatch/

    Does this seem like it would be the culprit, and if so is there an updated antimalware policy template for 1602? I imported the one listed on the servers \adminconsole\XmlStorage\EPTemplates directory (there were only 4), it was named "SCEP_Default_CfgMgr", but it did not have all the things listed in the link above.

    Before I go adding all that mess, I was hoping there's a downloadable template somewhere. I would think the processes of Configuration Manager would automatically be blocked from an antivirus that it manages, but I guess i'm wrong ;)

    Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

  12. Everyone,

    I have an SCCM Server that is currently running in VMware, but we're moving all our environment over to Hyper-V. We have moved everything over by using the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter Tool, and so far have had 0 issues. It scares me to mess with my SCCM server, but we're going to have to get it over to Hyper-V one way or another.

    My question to you all, do we convert and move or back-up and rebuild?

    My environment is very basic. Single site, and one server (the one being moved) that houses all roles (site server/database/reporting/management point/etc). This is a school district, and we have 4 remote campuses throughout our town, and we have distribution points setup. That's the extent of our SCCM Infrastructure.

    I have a feeling the best route would be to back-up and rebuild the server from scratch. If that's the case, can someone point me in the right direction for best practices for that process?

    I'm open to any suggestion(s) for this.

    I appreciate any and all input, thank you!

  13. I would be very interested to see this as well.

    What we're doing now is a round-about way of getting this done. I manage a school district for ~3000 students, and we're getting closer to our 1:1 student/laptops. We ship the vendor a harddrive from a pre-configured laptop. It has our wireless profiles and everything in it that we require to be on the laptops as they arrive to our site, except:

    1) proper renaming

    2) joined to domain

    3) sccm client installed

    What we've done is written a series of scripts that do the following as soon as we turn on the laptops:

    1) we click "go" on the desktop, it opens a screen asking what site the laptop will go to. It will then rename the computer with a pre-fix / serial number (example MPHS-R8234kd). then it reboots

    2) it auto-logs into the computer, and then runs a script that joins the computer to the domain

    3) it then reboots and forces a script to install the sccm client. When it's completed and the sccm client is fully installed/recognized and forefront is installed ready to go, it pops up a message saying job complete.

    4) we shut it down and deploy to the classroom.

    This limits us, as we have to have an image for every single model, which isn't a problem for this b/c we purchase the same model every time. Next time we change models, for the newer one for example, we'll have to send them a new image.

    If I can learn to do the prestaged content like you're asking, we just have the base OS laid down, turn it on, and it renames/installs software/client/drivers dependent on the model.

    I would be very interested in seeing how to do this if anyone has a walk-thru or any info on doing so.

  14. Good afternoon,

    I have a windows 10 task sequence that lays down the OS nicely, installs all drivers, and activates windows/etc. We have kept fairly strict on standardizing the models of laptops/desktops that we purchase for our school district. We have a group of Lenovo T420 laptops that images perfectly with Windows 7 x86, but we just received a new batch and we're going to push Win10 x64 Professional to them. When getting the first one imaged, I noticed there were 4 or 5 drivers the task sequence did not take care of. I manually downloaded them, some of them only listed compatible with Windows 7 x64, but they worked fine with Win 10 x64, no issues whatsoever.

    I added those drivers to my sccm server, added them to my "x64 Lenovo Laptops" Driver Package, and updated them on my distribution point. I noticed when I right click the driver and go to the "Applicability" tab, it only had Windows 7 (64-bit) checked. I made sure Windows 10 Professional/Enterprise and higher (64-bit) was selected and even did 32-bit as well, applied, updated my distribution points, and I reran my OSD task sequence.

    Two drivers remain uninstalled after running the task sequence.

    1) Base System Device, which is Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller and

    2) Intel® Active Management Technology - SOL

    I've double checked, readded the drivers to the packages/server, updated my distribution points and it does the same thing, only those two drivers WILL not install.

    What am I missing?

    Any help is appreciated, thank you!

  15. OK, so I have fixed the issue for not being able to apply the settings for customsettings.ini and applying the settings package.

    Again, the only things I have in my CustomSettings.ini is the following:

    ===========================================================================================================

    [settings]
    Priority=Default
    Properties=MyLocation
    [Default]
    OSDComputerName=%MyLocation%-#Replace("#Left("%SERIALNUMBER%",10)#"," ","")#
    Subsection=%DefaultGateway001%
    [10.80.16.1]
    MyLocation=MPHS
    [10.100.100.1]
    MyLocation=MPJH
    [10.80.76.1]
    MyLocation=MPCE
    [10.80.84.1]
    MyLocation=MPES
    [10.80.40.1]
    MyLocation=MPAD
    [10.80.32.1]
    MyLocation=MPWK

    ===========================================================================================================

    Does this seem like all I would need for this, or am I missing anything from my customsettings.ini file?
    You're awesome sir, I really appreciate your time
  16. Peter33: Tried viewing that link and it's not working. not sure what's up...

    I'm looking more into this. I am selecting "Gather local data and process rules", then typing customsettings.ini in for my rules file, and browsing to the new settings package I created. When I click ok (apply is never available, stays grayed out), i then go back into edit of task sequence and it default back to "Gather only local data", I cannot get it to stay on "Gather local data and process rules" with my customsettings.ini listed

    Am I missing something?

  17. Ok so I have my customsettings.ini file with nothing in it but what I copied/pasted here, and have created a toolkit package and a settings package, and have distributed the content to my DP.

    I add the MDT toolkit step to my task sequence, and then add a gather step, and set "gather local data and process rules". I put in CustomSettings.ini for rules file and select my new settings package, click ok...

    right click, click edit...it's set to Gather only local data (do not process rules)

    It will not stay on Gather local data and process rules!

    thoughts?

  18. Peter33,

    I am working on my customsettings.ini now, anything stick out to you here?

    [settings]
    Priority=Default
    Properties=MyLocation
    [Default]
    OSDComputerName=%MyLocation%-#Replace("#Left("%SERIALNUMBER%",10)#"," ","")#
    Subsection=%DefaultGateway001%
    [10.80.16.1]
    MyLocation=MPHS
    [10.100.100.1]
    MyLocation=MPJH
    [10.80.76.1]
    MyLocation=MPCE
    [10.80.84.1]
    MyLocation=MPES
    [10.80.40.1]
    MyLocation=MPAD
    [10.80.32.1]
    MyLocation=MPWK
    Another thing i'm noticing, I don't have a Toolkit Package. The only customsettings.ini file I found was in \server\SMSPKGSIG\MPS00032.2
    I know i'm missing something very standard, just not sure what it is. I'm going to just start reading..it's great to be clueless ;)
  19.

    You could use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and put the whole logic for the naming into your custumsetting.ini file. The simply run a "use deplyoment toolit" followed by a "gather" step in your task sequnce.

    Here is an example for the naming logic.

    [Settings]
    Priority=Default
    Properties=MyLocation

    [Default]
    OSDComputerName=%MyLocation%-#Replace("#Left("%SERIALNUMBER%",10)#"," ","")#
    Subsection=%DefaultGateway001%

    [192.168.0.1]
    MyLocation=MPHS

    [192.168.1.1]
    MyLocation=MPJH

    This sounds like exactly what i'm looking at doing...i'm not familiar with using MDT / Deployment Toolkit, so i'm going to research that now. I know the logic as to how and why it works, just getting the files setup and doing it is another story...if you have any resources that might help in getting exactly what you're talking about doing (and understanding the logic of MDT and editing customsettings.ini) that'd be great.

    Looking now, thanks again! (sorry i'm so basic on this, scripting/wmi/etc is not my strong point and this has helped tremendously in pointing me in the right direction)
