  1. On XP we had the choice of using Steady State which is a program to restore disk states to a point in the past just like the other app 'Deep Freeze'.

This is app/feature that we want to use in our training rooms and go back in time to work on clean machines each time.

Now with Win7 this codename has changed into 'Guest Mode' but how to setup this thing? Setup with the help of SCCM of course :P

  2. Ok I looked over the the c:\windows\setupact.log and discovered this

So I searched on the inet if there was some usefull information and some say it's the video card, audio card or SATA drivers and some say to change the password policies on the captured machine because the password must be blank.

Now I have run a build and capture (all-in-one) and it still is looping and waiting on

    Running action: Prepare OS

    Running sysprep command

BUT there's a screen behind that one with title: "Uninstall Drivers" - To proceed with the uninstallation, first close all applications, then click the OK button below.

  3. Thanks a lot for this:) I will give this one a try, my way only works for the gui client, not command line.

So if I understand you right, you do not need to run dcsu-cli.exe with the /catalog \\server\repository\catalog.xml because this is specified in the settings.xml? And you enter the server\catalog.xml information in the gui client before you export the settings?

    For 64bit computers I guess dcsu-cli.exe should start in: %ProgramFiles(X86)%\.... :)

    For 64bit yes

Be sure to create and save your settings.xml file on the server that hosts the "Dell repository manager". And then copy that file in your package. I got version 1.2.155

  4. Ok, what I do is the following

    capturefm.png

    1. I install the "Dell Client System Update" application on the machine.

    2. Then I copy the settings.xml that is in the same package as the Dell Client System Update package on the server and I copy this to the installed dell folder on the machine with a batch that I call "dcsu_copy.bat"

    copy %~dp0\Settings.xml "%ProgramFiles%\Dell\ClientSystemUpdate\"

    3. Then I run the dcsu_cli.exe with the command: dcsu-cli.exe /silent /log c:\Windows\Temp\dcsu.log

    Start in: %ProgramFiles%\Dell\ClientSystemUpdate\

    Timeout: 15min

  5. Hello,

do you know if it possible to name Computer during OSD ?

I mean, after the OSD i have computer name "MYPC" for example and not the random naming that SCCM do.

    Regards,

    Yes it's possible.

Look for this -> PromptForSystemName.vbs (Author; Nick Moseley)

  6. I got some problems getting a capture of a Lenovo T510 and Dell E6510 but besides that I want to know which drivers are loaded at Winpe stage and which one after.

When the capture launches from OS it's using the os drivers or not? And when it's rebooting it's loading the winpe drivers I presume?

  7. This is a snippet from my smsts.log

  8. I successfully installed a Lenovo T510 but when I want to capture this afterwards the window with 'Prepare OS' & 'Running sysprep command' is blinking 5 times or so and then the screen becomes black and the video driver is gone and become a vga adapter again.

All the rest is ok but not the video card.

I got this log from the 'All status messages'

    What is happening?

I have the same thing on a Dell E6510 for the video card. I'm using version 8.15.10.2182 because version 8.15.10.2104 from the Dell cab file was giving me an error 'persistence module' from igfxpers.exe file at logon. The error is gone with the newer driver but I cannot capture the image :(

(The only solution I found was to boot the machine with a winpe and copy the image with imageX but when I deploy this the video driver isn't installed so this is the last thing I would do)

  9. Another thing that could be interesting is what can we delete just before the capture sequence other than the applications that writes logs on the root drive. Maybe updates in the SoftwareDistribution folder?

    For a Compaq 8000 Elite my wim file is 1,7GB and for a Lenovo T510 it's 3,3gb.

  10. or...

    md c:\somedir
    net share someshare=c:\somedir /UNLIMITED /REMARK:"someshare" /GRANT:Everyone,FULL
    cacls c:\someshare /E /T /C /G "%USERDNSDOMAIN%\Administrators:f

The folder already exists. 2 folders on C:\program files\folder1 and C:\program files\folder2 so I imagine I just need:

    set_disk_rights.bat

    cacls %programfiles%\folder1 /E /T /C /G "DOMAIN\Domain Users:f

    cacls %programfiles%\folder2 /E /T /C /G "DOMAIN\Domain Users:f

And I need to execute this batch as the domain administrator I also imagine

  11. I'm new to Dell systems and with SCCM I want to create an automatic way of installing drivers and maybe Dell applications.

For the moment I'm trying Dell Client System Update but I got 1 model (Optiplex 780) that doesn't see any drivers or dell applications so my question is what else to use?

Otherwise there is the Dell Client Deployment Pack for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 but the thing is that there are a multitude of applications like DCCU, CCTK, OMCI, CAB, ... that don't say which one is the best in order to get machines installed and 100% functional.

I need to run this in a task sequence and not from another application installed on a server. The only thing that could be usefull is a repository on SCCM server or another one with all drivers and applications. That's what I do for Lenovo and HP.

For Lenovo I have ThinInstaller which is a marvelous program and for HP I have SSM and they both work! :P

So to all the Dell Admins, what do you use to make a good Win7 gold build?
