    Hey Nickolaj,

     

    Yea, i was thinking the same thing, might end up having to just remove it.

    Would be nice to know what they actually setup though. hehe..

    Tried contacting the company that did the setup there, but they had ofcourse not documented anything, and had no clue what they had setup there.

    Hey everyone.

     

    We took over the management of a sccm solution a while back, and I was working myself through the configuration of the system.

    I found the Intune subscription there, and started wondering about the setup of it, since the customer is wondering about using it.

     

     

    Is there any way to see what account is in use for the intune subscription? As there is no information about that in the configmgr console.

  3. Pin items to start menu - Windows 8.1

    Hey guys,

     

    Been having a little issue with a customer i'm working for these days.

    They are running windows 8.1 clients, and need some shortcuts pinned to the metro start screen, these include shortcuts to folders and shortcuts to network files/folders

    We have got a great way to do web addresses in SCCM 2012 R2, but unfortunatly that does not cover i.e. exe files on the network, or shared folders and so on.

     

    I have found several scripts for this, both VBS scripts and PS scripts that i have used in windows 8, but for some reason they do not work in windows 8.1

    Many of the methods work, in windows 8, but i'm yet to find one that actually works properly in Windows 8.1..

     

    I got a bunch of different shortcuts i need deployed, some to many users, some to a few users (they have horrible software that you run straight from the servers).

     

    Are there any good ways to do this? commandwise/scriptwise, without user inputs and preferably without to many 3'd party applications?

  4. OSD deploying applications during install

    Hey guys,

     

    Just wanted to hear your thoughts on deploying applications during an OS deployment, how do you guys do it?

     

    Do you capture the referance image with applications in it, and then deploy it? Or do you deploy applications on top of a basic image like i do? Or do you do all applications as normal deployments after the OSD is done? :)

     

    Personally, I've always(sccm 2007 + 2012, win 7 and up) had my OS .wim file clean, so just windows in there, no applications in it at all, and use the add application step to add software, but I see alot of people add the applications to the images, is there any specific reason for that?

     

    From what I can see, it's easyer to maintain the system when having them separated, so when there is a new version of something, I just update the task sequence, instead of creating the referance image again or change the one you have.

     

    Do you save that much time deploying applications into the image first or is it just an old habbit?

     

    Would like to hear all your views on this one, might be more out there that wonder what is "best", what ways people do it, and why use different ways :)

  5. SCCM client via GPO

    Hey guys,

     

    Going over my new sccm solution, and got a little issue.

    For servers, i do not want the Application Catalog, and after a talk with some other guys here, we decided we really don't need the Silverlight client for anything else.

    So i was thinking of installing the SCCM client without the silverlight(since this is only a requirement for App Catalog), as a manual process, this is easy "/Skipprereq silverlight.exe", but due to network policys and ports being locked down, i'm doing a GPO installation of the client.

     

    I do not have too much experience with gpo deployments, and i'm truggleing with finding a way to pass parameters there.

    Is that not possible? Will i need to use a MST file maby for this? any of you have any tips how to do this efficiently? :)

  7. SCCM 2012 setup for production

    Hey everyone,


    Been working on a setup for our company in regards to the SCCM 2012 SP1, and things are looking good in the LAB environment I got.

    But I have a few questions surrounding the production setup.


    I have after a lot of considerations, come to the conclusion I will be using a CAS + 2 Primary sites (at start, will probably expand with more in not to long).

    We have a lot of offices that have poor/unstable connections around the world, where I will be placing a MP/DP + a SQL Replica (And maby some more roles if needed/wanted).

    Some of the locations are in separate domains, without trust (political issues), so I see this as the best solution for us, in regards to having control without setting up trusts/separate installations.


    We don't have to many clients, thats why I was wondering about if I needed the CAS, but political wise, and due to the fact we have alot of unstable locations, I ended up going for it.

    Currently around 20-30.000 clients I'm guessing, with another 30-40.000 during the next year. (quite a big expansion onwards now)


    Since there is a max of 10 MP's pr Primary, I will at start need 2 (currently 12 locations that I want this, but expecting another 10-12 during the next year, both because of unstable connections, but also to support untrusted forests/workgroup computers).


    So, the CAS + Primary Servers, will be located in our main datacenter (maby placing one primary in another datacenter later on, but thats TBD).


    We currently have a stable and nicely specced SQL cluster (enterprise licensed) that I can use for this, but from what I've seen a lot of places, its reccomended local SQL on the systems, as its easier to troubleshoot (mostly compared to a Standalone server)

    Is this also the case, when you have a properly setup cluster?


    So, my questions are as follows:

    Should I use instances on the cluster, or local SQL on the CAS?

    Should I use instances on the cluster, or local SQL on the Primary's?


    Another question is in regards to the servers (CAS + Primary's),

    Should I go for physical or virtual machines?

    I have seen alot of back and forth on this issue, some recommend physical, some say virtual.


    Virtual wise we got a few VMware cluster (currently around 450-500 servers in there currently), with no problems setting off the specs I need.

    Disk wise, we use NetApp in the datacenter, so load shouldn't be an issue there.


    Any good hw load/I/O numbers/Network load info I should run by the VM/storage/network guys to verify it can handle everything as a minimum?



    Any pointers will be more than welcome :)

  9. SCCM 2012 sp1 migration to CAS hierarchy

    Hey everyone,

     

    Happy survival of the Maya end of days! hehe.

     

    I've been looking at the SP1 beta of sccm 2012 in my lab, and also read up some on it, and i found some information that says the following:

    • "More flexible hierarchy management with support to expand a stand-alone primary site into a hierarchy that includes a new central administration site, and the migration of a Configuration Manager SP1 hierarchy to another Configuration Manager SP1 hierarchy.

    From what i can understand, this means that you should be able to join a hierarchy currently only using a Primary Site as a top, to a CAS structure, without starting from scratch.

     

    I've got 2 separate hierarchy's in my LAB (One CAS with a Primary, and one Primary StandAlone), but i can't really seem to find out how this can be done.

     

    Is it just me thats looking in the wrong places, or have i miss-understood what they mean by this? :)

  10. Hardware requirements sccm 2012

    Hey everyone,

     

    First off, thanks alot to everyone for all the great information on this site, has been alot of help with installation/troubleshooting sccm.

    Will try to help out some more on the page as i get the time now, as i've started in a possition that allows me more time to evolve and learn/teach people about sccm.

     

    I have only been using sccm 2007 untill now, and i'm quite familar with it. But now its time to start looking at the 2012 beta :)

     

    I have started downloading it, but it takes time, so searching around for alot of information before installing it.

     

    One thing i havent found is hardware requirements for the beta/release. Has the requirements been released? In regards to resources needed (CPU power/numbers, RAM and so)?

    Have they changed alot, or are these around the same as the 2007 version?
