  1. Currently we are using the latest version of Dameware NT utilities, for our helpdesk work. We have populated the "Discription" field in AD for all the computers, with the owner name, just to find the right computer fast. We recently tried to use SCCM 2012 as our main helpdesk tool, Remote Viewer and with console extension tools installed. It really works great.. The one big downside to this, is that we constantly need to open AD user and computers, just to see who owns a particular computer. As we could not seem to get last logged on user/primary user or the description field to show under computer collections. Does anyone have a solution to this? We really need to know who owns/uses the computer to be able to make this work. Best solution would that we could search after the logon name or description field text..
  2. Hello - I'm new to SCCM, and trying to run a report for management to see which systems need upgraded. I tried to run the report "Search for Computers" and put in the collection "Workstation and desktops", and comes back with a 500 internal server error. It works fine with other reports, but this one will be about 17000 computers. Just need computer type and computer name.. Thanks!!!
  3. Hello all. I have recently realized that my SCCM server is no longer downloading the definition updates for FEP 2010. I have an update from May 31 (definition version 1.127.1100.0) - it shows as not expired and not superseded in SCCM. It is also the latest version showing in the WSUS console. When I manually run the softwareupdateautomation.exe tool I get this: Adding update CI_ID: 89097. ArticleID: 2461484. Name: Definition Update for Microsoft Endpoint Protection - KB2461484 (Definition 1.127.1100.0) to successfully processed list. That definition version is way old. I'm assuming it is pulling that version from WSUS/SCCM instead of MS Updates. So it appears to me that the problem is within WSUS, so how do I get it to pull the new definition updates? Thank you all. ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 R3, FEP 2010 Update Rollup 1, Server 2008 R2 w/ SP1
  4. Is it possible to build and capture in SCCM 2007 with static network info or am I just banging my head against the wall? I currently am trying to boot from media, enter network info, and trying to use the capture network to hang on to network settings through out. I have a feeling this futile though. I know I can build the machine and capture via media but I was hoping to do all though the TS. Any help is much appreciated. I wish our network section would just go to DHCP already and make my life easier. Mike
  5. Hi All I am trying to push a client install from a primary site Server i have but for some reason i am getting an error in connecting to HTTPS when i am not using this. 6. Hi guys. Hope you can help me again My Setup Very simple: One Primary Site server named server132 that is also my Distribution Point in the site BAL. The client is called test01. The Problem Downloading software packages in Software Center on clients is very very very slow. 1 GB of data can take over a two hours. What I’ve tried OS deployment goes pretty fast, so I assume that network speed isn’t the problem. I can download the same files directly from the share in no time. The firewall is disabled on both Distribution Point and client - didn’t work. I’ve looked in DataTransferService log on the client but I couldn’t see any errors or warnings. I don’t know how the client establishes the connection to the DP, but while downloading a software packages the computer is constantly establishing and closing connections to the DP on a consecutive port number. Is this normal? Please help me guys

  8. Seems that the client will install on our 2008 servers but not on our 2003 boxes. They're all in the same ip range, covered under the same boundary/group. Is there something I'm missing with this?
  9. Hi, I decided to share our basic space requirements for our SCCM instance, managing approximately 500 computers/servers , as I have not really seen documentation related to this before. Before you start implementing SCCM , it's always good to first pause, and concider the layout. Currently we use three sccm servers, for our purposes, lets call them SCCMA , SCCMB, and SCCMC On SCCMA you would keep a distribution point, and WSUS, and allot of roles, at your discretion . It is important that you have a seperate hard-drive for WSUS , and a Seperate one for your distribution point(Added before installing this role~very important, and set to take preference over your c: drive). Wsus, and your distribution points can easily take up up to 100gb each if fully utilized, and depending on the implementation. It is also important that you leave room for growth on your c: drive for SCCM components ( Please also note, that it is not best practice to have sccm on your C: drive). SCCMB: This server would ideally be used for your SQL database, and maybe some SCCM roles, not that resource hungry. Here it is vital to store your database on a separate hard-drive as to avoid long disc ques, and increase the overall responsiveness of the sccm system. SCCMC: This server is usually perfect for pxe boot functionality, and works perfectly to prioritise pxe traffic, as the server would be dedicated to this role. As with any distribution point role, have a second hard-drive, installed before installing the role, and with enough space to handle operating sstem, boot image, driver , etc storage requirements (This should not go over 50gb neccesarily, depending on implementation) . Note to always assign more space, rather than less. Physical processing power, and memory requirements: Remember, SCCM servers are quite resource intensive, and it is vital that they have good network connectivity to your systems (1gbps is a good thought) . Processing power requirements is usually not that bad, and two virtual processors should usually do the trick, depending on the amount of roles installed on the server. Ram requirements: This is where bottlenecks tend to occur on these systems, and when it's busy polling systems, or performing maintenance it can really utilize your memory. It is vital them to have atleast 12gb ram on each of your sccm servers, also dependant on the roles, and the amount of users the servers would be responsible for. If you can think, or see anything you do not agree with, please don't be hesitant to post.
  10. Hi, I decided to share some dependencies of certain sccm roles, and their related services with all, which might have caused headaches for some. Please add basic troubleshooting steps for common issues if you find some. If wsus does not start up, please ensure the following: Is your sql server service running?(This is only if your WSUS database is hosted on the sccm sql database) If you have difficulties accessing the sccm management console, restart the MSSQL service in services.msc If pxe boot does not work properly, restart the wds role. If wds does not start up, restart the "Server" service, and retry. Note to always set your WDS service to "Delayed start", as to give time for your depaendant services to start up first. As a rule of thumb, when communication issues are experienced, it should be the first step to restart the mssql service. If boot images, etc are inaccessible, ensure that WAIK is installed. When you experience update issues, after a windows update has come through, remember that sometimes hotfixes are available for the WSUS server instance to restore communication.
  11. Hello I'm having a bit of trouble deploying Win7 to an OptiPlex 790. I have added the NIC driver to WinPE. It boots into WinPE, starts the TS, applies the OS, applies the the OptiPlex 790 driver package(lates cab imported from Dell). On the next step after applying drivers, "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" after it reboots it fails with error code 80007002. Pressing F8 reveals that it has no network. After it fails and restart, I can log on to Windows. everything seems OK except that there is no network driver. I can manually load the network driver, the same I use in the driver package, and it installs it just fine.... It's only the 790 that has that problem, the 780 works just fine. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
  12. Hello! My standalone primary server is administrating two classrooms where it is used for OSD and distributing big (50+ GB) packages for configuration. The problem i am having is that old packages deleted from the SCCM still remains on the Distribution Point (E:\SCCMContentLib) where it takes up way to much space. Is there anyway i can clean up the distribution point?
  13. I installed the evaluation version of CM 2012 RTM. Now I have a key and can't add it. All of my options are grayed out except for recover a site and uninstall.
  14. Hi, I've created a UDI Task sequence with MDT 2012 and SCCM 2012, everything works fine, except i want to validate the computer name the will be inputed in once of the forms against the AD web service. expect i don't undestand how to do so, i've install the web service and it works fine, but i don't understand what i need to edit in order to have this validation in one of the pages in UDI wizard. help would be much appreciated, as i want to use this web service for other things as well in my UDI. Thank you in advance.
  15. We are using SCCM 2007 to deploy updates to desktops and servers without any problems, but I have a question about laptops. How do I setup the clients to download the updates and notify the users to install the updates with no restart? Basically, allow the users to install the update when they are in the office. Also, is it possible to do the same on certain servers that are managed by another department? The servers are managed by programmer and they would like the ability to restart them on their time with a deadline date. Thank you.
  16. I have finally rolled out SCCM 2012 to production and most of my PC's have the client installed. However I have a laptop that fails to install the SCCM Client. I extended the Schema in my AD, I have confirmed BITS was enabled and started on the PC's services. I manually tried to force the client to install from the SMS_Site-Code\Client directory by running ccmsetup.exe. I ran it as administrator and under my domain admin account. Always fails. I checked the client's ccmsetup.log, looks like it downloads the client setup files but CcmSetup fails. If anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it. I need to get the SCCM Client installed on this machine ASAP. I have an upcoming Audit and the client helps me reduce a lot of overhead in pulling the reports I need for my Computers. 17. I keep getting the following error when I try to edit SCCM reports. I downloaded and installed reportbuilder 3.0 on my deployment server and my workstation. I changed the registry to point to 3.0, restarted server, and ran as admin. Regkey that changed: “HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\Reporting\ReportBuilderApplicationManifestName” I even reinstalled as the Local Admin account. Same error. Anyone have any ideas on what else I may need to do?
  18. I've tried everything I can think of to get this working. After doing quite a bit of research online it looks like everyone has their own way of doing the entire process of customizing, capturing, and deploying Windows 7. As it stands, I've integrated MDT 2012 with my current SCCM 2012 (using this guide) and have tried a couple of the build, capture deploy methods I've found online but cannot for the life of me get the SCCM 2012 / MDT 2012 User Driven Installation to work. I can however get the SCCM 2012 Zero Touch Installation to work without a hitch using the same wim so I'm sure it has something to do with the UDI TS. Basically, I've built a custom Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x86 reference machine with all applications and customization needed and then captured the image using SCCM 2012 Capture Media (using this guide). It creates a wim file with two images, 1-1 is the 100 MB System Partition, 2-2 is the Windows Install. So in any of my deployment task sequences I tell it to lay down the 2-2 image. Also the Network Access Account has been created and have verified that it has Full Permission to the content locations. Next I followed guides 16, 17 and 18to integrate MDT 2012 with SCCM 2012 and to deploy a UDI. At first I found that it was creating two partitions a (C:) BDEDrive and (D:) OSDrive and was trying to apply the image to the D: drive. So I added DoNotCreateExtraPartition=YES to the CustomSettings.ini file, removed the BDEDrive 512 MB volume from the Format and Partition Disk section of the task sequence and set the OSDisk (Primary) as the boot partition. Now it still fails, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the most recent SMTS.log below. smsts.log
  19. We're using SCCM 2007 and USMT to migrate our XP machines to Windows 7 using what I believe to be a fairly standard task sequence. We're migrating profile data, with the exception of the Administrator account, as it was causing issues with Group Policy. Everything goes smoothly, except for the fact that there's a profile, C:\Users\Admini~1, that gets created once Windows 7 is installed. I was wondering why this gets created and whether it is it safe to simply run a script to delete this profile/folder. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hello, I'm searching for a way to install Windows Updates using powershell. When deploying updates with WSUS it is possible to use Microsoft.Update COM object and get a list of approved updates, iterate through the list and install updates one by one. Something similar was possible with SCCM Client 2007: http://learn-powersh...he-sccm-client/ unfortunately it looks like in SCCM Client 2012 the method EnumerateUpdates is missing (among many other methods from Class CCMUpdatesDeployment). Is there any other way to achieve the same controlled Windows updates installation with SCCM Client 2012 ? Tnx, Jan
  21. About a year ago we were asked to disable our SCCM 2007 hardware and software inventories. It was determined that running them during production hours in our environment with a custom schedule caused a drastic performance hit. For obvious reasons (WOL, software license compliance, client health etc.) I would like to re-enable this bad boy. I have been doing quite a bit of research so I am not going in blind with my recommendation (of re-enabling these features) but thought I would reach out to you guys for some suggestions. If anyone could provide some insight into the follow questions I'd greatly appreciate it: Both the Software and hardware inventories are pulled locally via a WMI query and then sent to the site server via IIS in a .DDR file, correct? The main logs I'm interested in for trouble shooting are: Client side – CCMExec.log, FileSystemFile.log, InventoryAgent.log, MifProvider.log Site side – Sinvproc.log, Datatde.log [*]Is there any way to enable this without the inventories running globally in production? [*]Is there any easy method to determine the performance hit from this WMI query? [*]Is it better to run these on a simple schedule or a custom? (I’m thinking simple to ensure they all don’t run at the same time.) [*]Does anyone know a method for disabling the CCMExec service remotely on multiple machines? [*]Are there any “got chas” I should be concerned with in re-enabling this with the drastic amount of changes done since they were disabled? (i.e. new clients, stale software records, client push installation etc.) Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks everyone.
  22. Good evening, I've recently starting taking over SCCM activities at my place of work and as I've started to work on our PXE boot to load OSs on bare computers, I've come across some problems and I'm hoping someone with more knowledge and experience can at least point me in the right direction. Here's what's happening, I'll explain it all as best I can: Turn on the computer and press F12 to go into the Network Boot. Wait for it to contact the server and then press F12 again to Network Boot. It loads the boot image... The standard SCCM screen comes up and says Windows is Starting and then applies it's drivers. Next, JUST before it would normally get to the Login screen where we put in our password before we can select which task sequence we want to run, the background is all that is seen and then the computer restarts. So, my question is this, is there a log somewhere that will tell me exactly whats happening at the point when it's restarting? I could probably figure it out if I knew which log to look at but I'm still learning my way around all the logs and what they say and I haven't come across the right one yet. So if anyone has any idea what the problem may be or what log I should be looking at, I would greatly appreciate any assistance!
  23. following the instructions here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/archive/2012/02/15/expiring-outdated-stand-alone-media.aspx my tsconfig is as follows: [CustomHook] CommandLine="cscript.exe X:\ExpiredUFDCheck.vbs" CommandLine="wscript.exe X:\Deploy\Scripts\ZTIMediaHook.wsf" The ORIGINAL vbs file is as follows, which will not function for me and just throw errors and the logic seems wrong so I corrected it, ( changes annotated). On Error Resume Next ' // --------------------------------------------------------------------- ' // Find the environment variable %configpath% for location of UFD ' // --------------------------------------------------------------------- 'Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") 'Set objExecObject = objShell.Exec("%comspec% /c echo %configpath%") 'configPath1 = objExecObject.StdOut.ReadAll() 'configPath = Mid(configPath1, 1, Len(configPath1) -2) ' // ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ' // Find the environment variable %TEMP% for location of tool files (e.g. shutdown.exe) ' // ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set objExecObject = objShell.Exec("%comspec% /c echo %temp%") temp = objExecObject.StdOut.ReadAll() tempdir = Mid(temp, 1, Len(temp) -2) ' // --------------------------- ' // Find driver letter for UFD '// ---------------------------- Set FSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set Drives = FSO.Drives For Each DiskDrive In Drives If DiskDrive.DriveType = "1" Then USBPath = DiskDrive.Path End If Next ' // ----------------------------------------------------------------- ' // Query WMI for creation date of the Policy.xml file on the UFD ' // ----------------------------------------------------------------- strComputer = "." No matter what date I set in the bios, i see the script kick off, but my task sequence keeps right on going . Won't running this with the cscript command open an ugly to the end user cmd prompt box along with the notification box? Any help is appreciated!
  24. I setup a remote SUP in my lab following the instructions from this site http://www.windows-n...-remote-server/ Great info, thx! I then setup a remote SUP in my production environment and I'm having a problem. I want the SUP to also download the patches for SCCM. In my lab I launch the SCCM console and create the search folder, patch list, etc. and the patches are downloaded to the SUP. but in production the SUP doesn't have the SCCM console installed and I am unable to install it. I want the SCCM console to be on the SUP in production like it is in my lab so I can download the patches to it. Any ideas on how to get the SCCM console on the SUP?
  25. Hi, I am having issues trying to import one of my test clients into SCCM 2012 RTM. I have been using this physical machine repeatedly to test against the OS deployment\capture sequences within SCCM. Until now I could import the device via a single computer or file based import using MAC &\or GUID, but now it keeps returning ErrorCode=2152205056 with description "unable to save changes". I think the error is related to a MAC recorded in the SQL database that is not getting deleted correctly when I delete the device from within SCCM, but I cannot confirm this as SQL is completely unknown to me. I know it is not a question of rights, as I can still import other devices, delete the import and then reimport them. Does anyone have any idea of how to check this from within SCCM or perhaps via a SQL query? Cheers & thanks in advance, AB
