  1. I have recently starting testing the SUP capability of SCCM 2012. I have followed the guides to set up the Server and all seems to be working fine. Updates are being downloaded and showing on the server console. However on the client side there seem to be a few teething problems. The clients are showing that they need the updates but aren't downloading them. I checked WUAHandler.log and found this error repeated regularly. Its a WSUS Update Source type ({804E0972-01D9-479F-8E38-E58576D82725}), adding it. WUAHandler 12/07/2013 12:18:16 3216 (0x0C90) Existing WUA Managed server was already set (HTTP://Ourservername.LOCAL:8530), skipping Group Policy registration. 2. We have a domain migration starting very soon and I wanted a little information about reusing site codes child.lab.local - Current domain with SCCM 2007 environment lab.local - Root domain we are migrating to, going to implement SCCM 2012 SCCM2007 servers Site Code: AAA Server name: AAASCCM01.child.lab.local Site Code: BBB Server name: BBBSCCM01.child.lab.local SCCM2012 servers Site Code: AAA Server name: AAASCCM02.lab.local Site Code: BBB Server name: BBBSCCM02.lab.local Do you know if I can reuse the site codes for the new SCCM servers in the root domain? Or will I have to change them to avoid any conflicts?

  4. Hello I have currently setup the following test environment PRISCCM01.child.eellab.local - SCCM 2007 Primary Site SECSCCM01.child.eellab.local - SCCM 2007 Secondary Site CASSCCM01.eellab.local - SCCM 2012 Central Administration Site PRISCCM01.eellab.local - SCCM 2012 Primary Site I have deployments working in the SCCM 2007 environment without any problems and have now created the SCCM 2012 servers and started to test deployments. However I have now come across a problem where when installing the SCCM 2012 client via OSD the client fails to talk with PRISCCM01.eellab.local. Looking at the ccmsetup.log I can see that the machine is finding both the PRISCCM01 site on both the 2007 & 2012 sites then refusing to work as it wants to use the 2007 site which is an older version than the installed client. What can I do to resolve this? Will I have to create a new site which hasn't reused the PRI site code and PRISCCM01 name? Is there issues using site names & codes again in the parent domain? Is there a way to unpublish the SCCM 2007 names from AD? ccmsetup.log client.msi.log
  5. I have a laptop that has 2 HDDs. I am trying to deploy an OS image (to Disk 0) but it keeps failing at the Apply Operating System Image. I have task sequences set up to format and partition both drives. It formats correctly and when it gets to Applying OS Image it fails. If i remove the secondary drive, and apply the OS image it completes successfully. I have attached my SMSTS logs and some screenshots. BIOS is set to AHCI. Thanks for any help. smsts.log smsts-20130523-175650.log
  6. I have always have an issue with clients (servers and desktops) getting stuck at downloading updates and never progressing even after days. I have read numerous posts here and on technet about this issue and I am still not able to fix it. I want to think that because its so widespread that its something with boundaries but I'm not sure. I have 6 boundaries for 6 different physical locations and they were all added from ad sites not subnets. I have 3 boundary groups which contain the majority of the boundaries. (some offices have closed but the ad sites still exist for now). Which logs would help me determine if its a boundary or an update / update group issue?
  7. Hello, I searching for a way to move the sql database of an secondary site to my partition D:. Currently, my database is stored on Partition C: like default but I running out of space on this partition and can not clean up space anymore. I googled arrount but did not found a proper solution for it The way i found was like follow: 1.Stop site server using (Configuration Manager site installation folder)\bin\X64\00000409\preinst.exe /STOPSITE 2.On SQL Server for SCCM DB a. Detach CM_(Site Code) b. Move both files (mdf and ldf) c. Attach CM_(Site Code) to new SQL Server run the following stored procedure as a query: sp_configure ‘clr enabled’,1; reconfigure. d. Enable common language runtime (CLR) integration e. Verify SCCM Site servers are Local Administrators on the SQL server f. Add the site server system account as login account with admin rights to SQL 3.On SCCM Server a. Run Configuration Manager Setup Wizard using Setup.exe from (Configuration Manager site installation folder)\BIN\X64\setup.exe. Not from install media- you won't have the same options. b. Choose site maintenance or reset site c. Select Modify SQL Server configuration d. After wizard finishes restart SCCM site server e. In SCCM console update the properties of the Reporting Services Point role to use the SCCM Databse on the new server. Administration>Servers and Site System Roles>Pick the server with the Reporting Services Point Role>Pick Reporting services point>Right click and choose properties>Change Site Database Server name. Link http://smsimpossible.blogspot.de/2012/09/how-to-move-databases-for-sccm-2012.html When I try to run setup.exe on secondary site all options are greyed out. I also tried to use setup.exe of installation folder on Main site where I can select Site Maintenance. But when I want to connect to my SQL database on the secondary site I get an error message: "configuration manager site require a supported sql server version...*" I don't have a clue why this happens. I used the feature of automatically install sql server on secondary site. Could be the problem that this only works with SQL Standard instead of express which will be used by pushing installation of secondary site over Console? I would appreciate any kind of help! Thanks Staudi
  8. Hi, First let me say Thank You for sharing your knowledge. I've learned a great deal from this forum. Now the question :-) I've got an existing WDS (2008R2) to deploy images to computers. Now looking to implement SCCM2012. How do I intergrate the two systems without install/enable WDS role on SCCM2012? I still want to use PXE boot that's already implemented with WDS. Is ther a way to get SCCM 2012 to understand and use the existing WDS? I hope this makes sense. Thanks Rusty
  9. Having a problem with the WSUS part of SCCM 2012 not working on agents in our DMZ. Internal agents working fine. DMZ agents have PKI certificates from internal PKI, and are appearing in the console as active inventory. Because many parts of the SCCM roles must be configured for HTTP or HTTPS and not both at the same time: 1 - these agents are on a boundary that assign them to a MP that is configured for SSL. Agent control panel shows correct MP. 2 - these agents are also in a collection with different client settings to assign them an 8531 appcat. SDCSCMP23 is the HTTP WSUS/Appcat/MP for internal agents SDCSCMP25 is the SSL WSUS/Appcat/MP with PKI certs for DMZ agents The problem is that SCCM is configuring DMZ agents to use the HTTP parts of the Infrastructure for WSUS, and not the HTTPS parts. Per MS Doc, Client Settings are supposed to auto assign an HTTPS appcat before an HTTP one, but this was not happening, so I made my own client settings to assign the HTTPS appcat. Simply modifying the firewall config to permit 443, 8531 to this other server is NOT an option, because those servers are listening on 80, 8530 (for internal HTTP agents) not 443, 8531. We have a requirement to use only 443, 8531 for the DMZ agents. Have verified that 443, 8531 are open through the firewall to SDCSCMP25 from the agents. This is SCCM 2012 SP1. We are NOT assigning WSUS servers through GPO. How do I get SCCM to assign the correct WSUS servers to these agents? 10. I have so many questions about SCCM 2012. I am completely new to this. My university is currently using WDS for image deployment. We just use out-of-box install.wim and a customized wdsclient unattend.xml. We also pre-stage our machines in AD. Anyway, I am in charge of reconfiguring the whole deployment infrastructure. Currently this is our setup. Main Campus (172.38…) WDS Server WSUS Server faculty/staff WSUS for servers WDS Server for lab machines (172.25…) WSUS replica for student labs Second Location WDS for Lab machines WSUS replica Third location WDS for lab machines WSUS replica There is my idea: Scenario 1 Primary site server – Distribution Point, management Point, SUP, Application Catalog web service, Application Catalog website, Component Server, Asset intelligence point - Main Campus SQL DP server – main campus Site System Server-Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Student Main Campus Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Servers, faculty/staff main campus Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Second location student labs Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Third location for student labs I really am not sure if the SUP is need at each DP. Right now there is replica WSUS servers at all these locations and I figured it would be best to lessen the traffic going to the primary site but not quite sure if that is necessary. Please help with any ideas on what would be the best setup for my environment.
  11. We're installing a new SCCM 2012 instance in our environment, and learned that we cannot get Endpoint Protection definition files to download if the workstation has a version of the Windows Update Agent that is too old. We're trying to use a query based rule to create a collection of workstations that don't have the latest version of the WUA so that we can rectify those machines before we install SCEP and the definitions get out of date. So, we've created our "Managed Clients" collection and have a second collection that uses that as a parent collection along with the following query: select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType, SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name, SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup, SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_WINDOWSUPDATEAGENTVERSION on SMS_G_System_WINDOWSUPDATEAGENTVERSION.ResourceId = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_WINDOWSUPDATEAGENTVERSION.Version like "%7.4.7600.256%" to identify those that are up to date, and a 'NOT LIKE' version to identify those that are out of date. However, neither device collection has any workstations. And when we query the SQL database at the backend of our site, it doesn't appear as though any workstations are reporting this data, even though both Hardware & Software inventories are turned on in the default client policy (and not overridden anywhere else). Any thoughts on why the WUA Version isn't being reported, or another way to end-around this issue and prevent our SCEP definition files from getting out of date before we know we have a problem?
  12. Hi, Ive been following some guides here to help me set up our existing SCCM2012 (not installed SP1 yet) for deployment (previously it only handled SCEP). After configuring and testing deployment within the same subnet i decided to go ahead with trials in the net where most of the deployments will happen. I configured the DHCP server with option 66 and 67 without problems but when i went to try the deployment i encountered the error. The pc will PXE boot successfully but it fails after checking policy assignments. I have removed and re-added the machine to the collection for which i want to run deployment thinking this might fix it. I have double checked to see wether i got more than one computer with the same GUID. I dont think there is anything wrong with my collections considering deployment works on subnet A (same as sccm server) but fails on subnet B ? Any advice out there will be greatly appreciated. I can supply more information if needed, just let me know what you need! Thanks in advance!
  13. In the process of rolling out Windows 8 in the enterprise, and have majority of IT staff using it. Want to disable the Windows 8 App store using SCCM 2012. Any ideas?
  14. Hello, I running with a new 2012 build: Windows 2012 STD, SQL 2012 (CU5), and SCCM 2012 SP1. I installed WSUS and then SUP and most of the updates are downloading. Sporadically the wsyncmgr.log is showing : Failed to sync update “xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx”. Error: The Microsoft Software License Terms have not been completely downloaded and cannot be accepted. Source: Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.SoapExceptionProcessor.DeserializeAndThrow. I have looked at a lot of the solutions out there and of them none appear to apply. Permisisons in the DB and folders are good. WSUS path is good in SQL. Thank you! One side note: SUP had only English selected as my choice but when I was reviewing the settings in the WSUS console it was set to download all languages.
  15. I am currenty replacing SCCM 2007 with SCCM 2012. Because of that, I have two fully working environments. Performing a new OSD with a machine directly from the factory is easy in SCCM2012: I simply import the compuer, with it's desired hostname, and the MAC adress of the machine, and point towards a specific device collection, allowing the task sequence to run. (I do not use unknown computer support in the 2012 enviroment, but we did in the previous 2007 environment). Performing OSD that way, works like a charm! I can even deploy the SCCM 2012 agent to a SCCM 2007 machine, making it communicating fully, then making the system a member of the very same osd-collection, in that way triggering the OSD via PXE or from Windows in the Software Center. I'm using Option 66 and 67 in my DHCP, on specific scopes. Recently, I've been trying to educate my collegues, in how to use the SCCM 2012 console. A collegue of mine simply asked: "what's the easiest way to reinstall a computer, that is currently in the SCCM 2007 system?" Well, as I have the "Active Directory System Discovery" discovery method enabled, I can actually see the objects from our AD under devices in SCCM 2012. Deploying the SCCM 2012 agent to one of those object would work, and then making it a member of the collection. But that's a bit unnecessary, right? So, I just tried to rightclick on the object, which currently says Client=No (as the machine is a member of the sccm 2007, or none at all), choose "add selected items" -> "add selected items to existing device collection", choosing my osd-collection. Seems legit? Trying to PXE a machine gives me the following: "CLIENT MAC ADDR: BLABLABLA GUID: BLABLABLA CLIENT IP: 172.X.X.X MASK: 255.255.255.0 DHCP IP: 172.X.X.X GATEWAY IP: 172.X.X.X Downloaded WDSNBP... Architecture: x64 WDSNBP started using DHCP Referral. Contacting Server: MY SCCM WITH WDS (gateway: 172.x.x.x)... No responsde from Windows Deployment Services server. Launching pxeboot.com... Press F12 for network service boot." When pressing F12 I get this: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next". 3. Click "Repair your computer". If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000f Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data." Any thoughts on this? Seem like doing a re-OSD the easy way, is an impossible way. Thanks Johan
  16. Hi, I'm having a problem with applying drivers to my PowerEdge M600/610 And 620. I have made a package with drivers, sent it to the DP's and added the packed to the task sequence. The problem: The network drivers won't install during OSD. But when i put the drivers on a USB stick and install them manually ( Computer --> Properties --> DeviceManager) It Works. so it's no problem with the driver it self i guess? We are using SCCM 2012 SP1. Anyone seen a similar problem ?
  17. When I deployed SCCM 2012 SP1, I tore down my previous SCCM installation and rebuilt it on a Windows Server 2012 server with SQL Standard 2012. I managed to update the majority of my clients running XP and Windows 7. Today I tried installing the client on my first 2012 server, with the error code 80004005 in the subject. The following ccmsetup.log entries appear. What makes me scratch my head is that the client installed on the new SCCM server, which is also Server 2012. It does install by hand though; it says it couldn't install the Microsoft Policy Platform component. However, if I install this component separately (a simple "next next finish" install) I can do the rest of the setup. Is this a matter of Server 2012 being a little more paranoid about what's auto-installing? Do I have this to look forward to when I start rolling out Windows 8? <![LOG[Couldn't verify 'C:\Windows\ccmsetup\MicrosoftPolicyPlatformSetup.msi' authenticode signature. 18. We've installed SP1 for System Center Configuration Mangaer 2012. I had to fix some small things for the Software Update Point. I deleted all errors for Software Update Point. All the Component Status are 'OK' and the all other Site System Status are 'OK' Only the Software Update Point says 'Critical' Is there any way to reset the status?
  19. I was wondering if it's possible to use SCCM 2012 in a multidomain environment? We have several domains each in their own forests but with the possibility of network connectivity. Would it be sufficient to set serveral Active-Directory Forests, with their own set of credentials + their own Boundaries and Boundary Groups? How is this done best-practice-wise? The idea is to use SCCM2012 as a tool for keeping servers up to date via WSUS. Would that be doable? Are there issues we could run in to by using this? What would one have to do in the domain beeing added? (Which doesn't contain the sccm2012 server(s)) Edit: What requirements are there when it comes to trusts when doing this? In my lab I'm now running a one-way trust, allowing the SCCM2012 server full access to the "System" container in forest number 2. Would this be correct?
  20. Hi guys, I wondered if someone here can provide clarity regarding update sources for the SCEP client as I've hit a brick wall this side of the wire! We have implemented the EPP role, configured AMW policies and deployed, setup ADR and tested and up until recently had no issues with SCEP or AMW update functionality. The SCEP clients are now failing to update their definitions. The updates sources, and order, are: 1. SCCM 2. Microsoft Update Clients fail to update and provide the following error: CODE: 0x8024402c MESSAGE: System Center Endpoint Protection couldn't install the definition updates because the proxy server or target server names can't be resolved. Having removed Microsoft Update from the Update Sources (as I believe there's no route to it), clients update their policies and now receive their updated definitions. When I examine the MPxxxxxx.log in ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Support, it shows that the definitions were updated via MMPC. This causes a quandary because it isn't in the sources list. I think my question is relatively straight forward... Are the definitions being updated from SCCM but incorrectly reported as MMPC or is there a default position within SCEP 2012 whereby it checks the MMPC regardless of what the configuration is set at? Thanks, Ian.
  21. Hi - im after a bit of advice. Ive got a hub and spoke setup of SCCM2012 - single site, multiple distribution points, one per IP subnet. But im having a bit of a funny where for example, clients on a subnet called STM are choosing to use the management point of a different subnet! Ive checked all of my configuration settings / boudaries etc. Does anyone have any ideas?
  22. I am managing clients using PKI over HTTPS. the problem i am facing is that some clients although on seperate domains or workgroups may have the same netbios(hostname). because of this they fight for a space within SCCM admin console, and invariably do not appear. e.g CLIENT1 - netbios name (DOMAIN) CLIENT2 - netbios name (DOMAIN) both are completly different (GUID, MAC, IP, DOMAIN or WORKGROUP) but have problems co-existing. what is the solution? i cannot rename the hosts, and why cannot they co-exist if all other data is different...
  23. Hi All, I have been reading through this forum quite a bit, including using the guides available to setup a couple of SCCM installs (firstly with 2007, and now with 2012). Some things I have tried are: removing and re-adding the Distribution Point changing the date on some of the certificates (to hopefully generate new ones). removed and re-installed the WDS role. rebooted. restarted WDS service. PXE booting has worked once for me, but when it did the task sequence i was trying to run (build and capture) failed, but before I had a chance to look into that, PXE stopped working. I have tried this on a couple of different machines, and at the client end, I get the following message: Status: 0xc000000f Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data. I am at my wits end trying to get this to work, I have searched online, and the only solution it looks to be is to rebuld the server, which I really do not want to do. (if i do though, i will wait for SP1). If I haven't provided enough info, please let me know, and I will be sure to post it. Thanks in advance!
  24. Hello Everyone, This website has been super helpful in my migration from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012. One of the questions that I can't seem to find any answers for is related to SCCM 2012 Collections design consideration. Currently in SCCM 2007 we have a "Software Distribution" Collection, and within each application has its own collection. All computers are added using Direct rule only (yes not the best way), to each application specific collection as needed. Now, with SCCM 2012, I would like to revamp the way we push out applications, on top of that since sub-collections are not possible with SCCM 2012, having 100 collections for software is going to look like a mess. I would like to get advice on how you guys are pushing out packages using SCCM 2012. I am guessing a lot of you are using AD Groups for applications and maybe using a query to determine if the app is already installed? The whole application vs packages still has me confused. A visual screenshots of a setup would help a lot. Thanks again.
  25. Hi All I am very new to SCCM 2012 and currently looking into deploying Win2008 R2 via boot (we have chosen not to go for pxe as we dont have DHCP enabled). I have read many sites which mention we must build and capture the image - im a bit confused as for a boot image how is this done? if anyone can point me to a link or youtube vid will be grateful. many thanks for all help in advance. Kabir
