  1. Hello, We have switched from using Symnatec Ghost for Capturing and Deploying images to using SCCM 2012. The procedure we would typically use for Ghost when we got a new machine is as follows: (General Idea) 1. Load Windows 2. Load Drivers 3. Load Updates 4. Load Software 5. Create image by Pxe'ing to our ghost server and saving this image. 6. Use PXE in Ghost to deploy the image to all other same model computers. Currently with SCCM i'm doing the same first 4 steps then: 5. Capture image using capture media saving OS 6. Deploy using PXE to SCCM Server. Is there anyway to eliminate the need for the capture media and run it from a PXE? I know there are other ways to do this i just haven't learned them yet.
  2. Hello, I'm curious if anyone has upgraded to SCSM 2012 after upgrading their SCCM 2012 server. My CM 2007 server died last year and since I needed to get it up and running for the summer I decided to build a new, SCCM 2012 server instead. Now I've been tasked with upgrading our SCSM 2010 instance to 2012. After looking through the System Center 2012 upgrade guide here, it's recommended that the Service Manager environment be installed before SCCM 2012. My question is, has anyone installed SCCM 2012 before Service Manager 2012, and if so have you run into any issues adding the Configuration Manager connector in Service Manager? Thanks in advance
  3. Does anyone know the exact correct WMI string for letting it select M93p based on the MTM number in the BIOS ? See attached screenshot
  4. Hi All, Trying to build and capture a VM machine. Created a collection, however when trying to build and capture I get the following error 0x00000037 Please can anyone help, I've checked the internet and cant find anything to help. Cheers
  5. I am trying to install the windows 7 from sccm 2012 but every time my destination pc boots into boot file and restart after showing the task sequence. What could be the cause of this? I am deploying custome windows 7 wim file.
  6. Hi, I wanted to perform a capture of Win7 x86 machine and found that TSMBAutorun.exe does not start. Tried copying SMS\bin\x64 contents to SMS\bin\i386\SMS\bin\x64 location. Yet the exe never starts. SCCM 2012 SP1 version. Please suggest
  7. Has anyone run into a problem where the config mgr client stays stuck in provisioning mode after the TS completes? I currently have a couple scripts that force it out of this mode during the TS, but it causes the windows updates to fail to install at the end of the TS. If i take the scripts off, Windows Updates install, but then the client stays in provisioning mode and doesnt register with the CM.
  8. Hi, I have a requirement to partition disks during OSD. I have used step Partition Disk 0 to create a single drive. Below are scenarios I would like advice on. 1. Creating C:\ 200GB & D:\ 300GB from a single disk of 500GB 2. D:\ if existing should not be formatted.
  9. I have about 20 device collections that won't delete. It promts with a SQL error stating "Collection Cannot be deleted becuase it is refrenced by another collection" SQLseverity: = 15 SQLStatus: = 5000 StatusCode: = 2147749889 But inside the CM console i have looked through all my collections and they are not refrenced. I am looking for a SQL statement to go into the DB and delete them that way, I would assume it would be similar to deleteing a package (see below) Delete from ContentDPMap where ContentID='CAS00242' Delete from DistributionStatus where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from CI_ContentPackages where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgAccess where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from SMSPackages_G where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from SMSPackages_L where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgPrograms_G where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgPrograms_G where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgServers_G where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgServers_L where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgStatus_G where ID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgStatus_L where ID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgStatusHist where PkgID='CAS00242' Delete from PkgNotification where PkgID='CAS00242' Thank You
  10. HI I am after a bit of advice, i haven't done a lot on reporting, bit my manager wants a Live graphical (x sec refresh) dashboard view of sccm active application deployments, DP updates status ect ect. so he can have it on a wall-board as a quick 'what's happening now' view. is this something we can set up in SCCM or would i need SCOM or other tool/utility for this. Thanks Guys Rob
  11. Hello, I recently installed CM 2012R2 as a single site with SQL server and 7 disk drives on the same machine. Now when I'm checking site system status, the distribution point Site system role is installed on all disks. Is it normal?
  12. I am currently implementing SCCM 2012 and already have SCCM 2007 in place. I have unchecked PXE building in SCCM 2007 and set up PXE building in SCCM 2012 but when I attempt to PXE build on one of our machines it still seems to receive the PXE request from the SCCM 2007 system. If anybody has any ideas why this is happening or where I need to check in 2007 to ensure the function is temporarily disabled then please let me know. 2007 PXE Screen
  13. I have a bit of a problem that am trying to figure out. Currently I can deploy applications to Systems with no issues. They go quick and install as they should. But when I create an application that is set Per User but deployed to System Collections It takes really long for the deployment to start. Here is an example, I deploy an application to 400 workstations, and the status of the installations or installation in progress are much slower then a Systems application. Have anyway seen this happen before?
  14. When PXE booting to image a PC, as it loads the boot image, it stops, pauses, and gives the error, "A required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed" I've tried to reboot the ConfigMgr server and re-distribute the boot image and that has proven unsuccessful. Can anyone advise?
  15. We are experience issues trying to deploy software packages via task sequences in SCCM 2012. The task sequences deploy to our test collections and report as being 100% compliant but no software is ever deployed. If we choose to deploy the software with wakeup packets the client computer turns on but the process goes no further. We are able to deploy packages to collections outside of task sequences without any issue. This is a brand new SCCM 2012 server which we are in the process of testing, we having a fully working and operational SCCM 2007 environment which we plan on eventually migrating over. During the course of the 2012 install we choose initially to have only 1 distribution point, and then to share the distribution points from the 2007 setup, our plan once finished was to then uninstall the 2007 distribution points and re-setup them up as 2012. The packages are definitely assigned to the distribution points and indeed the task sequences appear and pop up on the client computers within software center. The SMSTS.log on the client computers do not seem to update and neither does the distmgr.log, I can only assume we have missed something in the SCCM 2012 setup, task sequences & software deployments are not a problem in 2007. Is someone please able to put us out of our misery and point us in the right direction, thanks
  16. Hello Windows-noob community! I wonder if there's something you could help me with? The task: - Populate the "Manged By" attribute of a computer object during OSD What I have so far: - A custom page in my UDI Wizard as follows The managed by field has the OSDManagedBy task sequence variable populated for it - The PowerShell #Create OSD Task Sequence Environment Object $tsenv = New-Object -COMObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment #Get the ComputerDescription $strComputerDesc = $tsenv.Value("OSDComputerDesc") #Get the ManagedBy Name $strManagedBy = $tsenv.Value(“OSDManagedBy”) #Computer Name $strName = $env:computername #Set the Active Directory Object Properties Set-ADComputer "$strName" -ManagedBy "$strManagedBy" Now, when fill in the strName and strManagedBy variables manually in the script, it goes off without a hitch. But I have it running right after the "Install Software" step in my task sequence and hence, the reason I'm here - it's not working. Any tips?
  17. Hi Our hardware inventory is extended to capture some registry values that contain company specific tags. However, on one of our images a value was missed (not present). I need to create a collection containing these machines, but I’m struggling to work out how to do this in WQL. Is it actually possible to use WQL to check if something does not exist (as opposed to being NULL)? Our environment is SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3. Thanks in advance.
  18. Now that the last of the 2014 Software Updates are out, I want to clear out SCCM and setup just a few Update Groups. We've had SCCM for just over a year, and there was a problem early on with people having access that they shouldn't. There are update groups with who knows what in them. Some have updates for every version of Windows possible, every Office update for every version. I think someone even setup updates for languages I can guarantee are not deployed in our environment. One of the problems is the 500GB allotted to our SCCM server is full already. 1) How do I go about clearing out all these unwanted update groups? 2) How do I remove the unwanted files in the SOURCE$ directory? 3) What is the best practice for rolling all the years critical updates into a single Group/Deployment? 4) Am I making any sense with my questions?
  19. Afternoon All, Hopefully there are some experienced SCUP users here on the forums. I seem to have an issue with the "Automatic" publishing feature of SCUP. They publish metadata only, despite client requesting that they need the update. My understanding is that if any Configuration Manager clients are requesting the update a full content will be initiated otherwise only metadata will be published. Am i missing something? Is there a specific log I can look at to see why it's not switching to full content automatically when requested?
  20. Hello everyone! I apologize in advance for my English. SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 primary site and 5 secondary. SQL Server 2012 R2 SP1 CU9 Autogrowth By 512 MB to Unlimited The total number of 13,000 Clients (Srv and Wks) and 17000 (Users and groups). DB last 3 weeks increased from 90 GB to 190 GB, the rapid growth in the day to 5GB. I reduced the storage of data in the "Site Maintenance" in order to stop the growth. Has not changed. What could be the reason and how to find it?
  21. I wanted to put this topic in the main CM2012 forum, but I can't, for some reason. That's why it's posted here. Hello, I was really hoping someone could help me with this. Background information: - We have a CM07 server in a production environment. - I've set up a CM12 RTM server, following the guides in this forum, with the hopes of migrating soon. - I wanted to do OSD from scratch to learn more and to take advantage of new features in CM12. - I have a few virtual machines running for testing OSD/apps (these are the only clients managed by my CM12 server). - Since it's not possible to have two WDS servers running at the same time AFAIK (without using registry tweaks, the F11 trick, that by the way doesn't work for me) I have created a bootable TS media that I mount on the virtual machines whenever I want to test OSD. Now, to my problem: I can't figure out why my Build and Capture TS is failing on the Install Software Updates step. smsts.log file says: Failed to RefreshUpdates, hr=087d00272, followed by: Failed to run the action: Install Software Updates. Component is disabled (Error: 87D00272; Source: CCM). I have read about similar issues occurring in CM07 capture task sequences since the machine is joined to a Workgroup. The proposed solution was adding SMSSLP=FQDN to the client installation properties, but since that functionality is moved to the MP in CM12, it should be enough to specify SMSMP=FQDN in my case. It's not working anyway. Tried it to a Deploy TS also, where the machine is domain joined, but I got the same error. The error code 87D00272 returns no results on Google. This stumps me, as someone surely has had the same problem? Here is the relevant portions of the smsts.log file If someone had the chance to look at this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! 22. Just curious if anyone has seen this behavior. It appears to me that when I push a software deployment, machines that have a user logged in and the computer locked, the deployment will fail. I've also noticed that if some of my field staff go to look at a failed machine and do a switch user and log in as local admin leaving the user logged on, nothing will show up in software center. In both scenarios once the user is logged off or the machine is restarted the deployment retries and works or software center populates as it should and my staff can then manually start the deployment.
  23. Hi Folks! Yesterday I encountered a problem, where laptop refuses to register to configmanager 2012 site. On the host ClientIDManagerStartup.log is filled with "[RegTask] - Server rejected registration request: 3" errors and on the management point MP_RegistrationManager.log says: "A client is trying to re-register with an administrator revoked certificate:" On the console I found MP_control_manager screaming "MP has rejected policy request from Client(SMSID = GUID:x) because this SMSID is marked as blocked." However, on the devices, the block/unblock/approve is greyed. have tried to uninstall client, deleted SMSCFG.INI, SMS related certificates from local computer store (or used old ccmdelcert.exe) ... and also the resource itself, but issue still remains. How do I delete the blocked SMS GUID from database or generate REALLY NEW SMS GUID? While attempting to resolve this issue, I noticed on the Management point certificates are all expired (see the image). We are not using PKI yet. I don't know if this is the real issue, since most of the site roles and clients works fine.
  24. Hello all, I'm running into an issue with our VM servers that have the SCCM 2012 R2 client installed. The symptoms are that some servers become unstable, and cannot be RDP'd to. When logging on to those servers through a VM console, I see that the SCNotification.exe has stopped working. This message does not go away. Server becomes responsive again only when the SCCM client is uninstalled. MS support has only been pointing us to reinstall .NET due to a corrupt installation. But this has happened with multiple machines. I do not think a corrupt install has occurred on every machine. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated! 25. Hello, I am trying to run a OSD task sequence on a Dell XPS 13 laptop. This particular model does not have an ethernet port built in, and requires a ethernet to USB dongle. I have baked the drivers for the Dell LAN7500 into the image itself and everything is downloading, such as the driver packages and applications. The only problem is that it will not join the domain. My theory is that the dongle driver isn't ready to use until after the initial reboot and setup of the Windows installation, which happens after the Apply Network Settings step. I have tried moving that step to after the initial reboot, but it just hangs and eventually errors out. Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks! TheWes
