  1. Hi, we're looking the possibility to request Username and Password ( so the HD staff can specify while we deploy a OS Task sequence (windows 7 standard image)). I saw the possibility to add a Variable to the device collection for request the computer name while the OSD start so i belive that if i add OSD varialble (OSDJoinAccount, OSDJoinDomainName, OSDJoinPassword, OSDJoinType) to the collection (and i specify the data request during the deployment ) the sccm join the client on domain with this credential but it doesn't work. what'is wrong ? Thank's in Advance. SCCM 2012 R2 Sp1 on windows 2012 server.
  2. Hello all. I am well versed in the Software Update functionality of SCCM but am just now getting into Task Sequences and could use some help. I am attempting to create a task sequence that performs the following: Check for pending reboot state If pending reboot state = true then restart computer After reboot, install deployed software updates Restart computer Perform scan cycle and determine compliance If non compliant, install software updates Restart Computer Repeat steps 5 through 7 again if necessary Complete I have been messing around with the Get-PendingReboot PowerShell script from the gallery: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Get-PendingReboot-Query-bdb79542 I'm a bit lost on how to take the results of a Run PowerShell Script task and use it as a condition to run a Restart Computer task. I also have no idea how I would execute a compliance scan and initiate a software update install of the computer if found to be non-compliant based on the software updates I've deployed to it. If it matters at all, I'm specifically focused on servers with strict maintenance windows. Our business is adverse to downtime so I need to attempt to configure SCCM to make the most of the small maintenance windows we have. Ideally our servers should come out of a maintenance window fully compliant and not in a pending reboot state. Any help provided is greatly appreciated.
  3. Hello, I'm pretty new to SCCM, and have made some progress in capturing a reference image in a vm, and creating a task sequence to install applications (Office 2010, Sophos antivirus, Reqourdit integration plugin) to a few of our new PCs which I'm testing. Everything seems to be working well except after the machine joins the domain, the applications in the sequence that are supposed to install are just sitting in a status of "Waiting to Install." I've tried putting a maintenance window on the collection that my test machines are members of, but it does not seem to effect anything. I'm begining to gather that this is an issue with scheduling, but I'm unable to decipher or gather much from the logs. I must admit I'm not sure which one would give me any concrete clue. What, other than setting a deadline in my deployment, and creating a maintenance window on my collection could allow for my applications to install immediately after the OS has finished being installed. Also what logs should I focus on to troubleshoot this issue. Thanks for your help!
  4. Hi All, Recently I have been trying to bit locker devices during OSD on a 2008r2 domain, with sccm 2012 r2 sp1. the schema has been checked and is correct (the 5 entries are present) CN=ms-FVE-KeyPackage – attributeSchema object CN=ms-FVE-RecoveryGuid – attributeSchema object CN=ms-FVE-RecoveryInformation – classSchema object CN=ms-FVE-RecoveryPassword – attributeSchema object CN=ms-FVE-VolumeGuid – attributeSchema object CN=ms-TPM-OwnerInformation – attributeSchema object The ad DC's have the bitlocker tools installed, and I can see the 'bitlocker recovery key' tab for a device in ADUC. I have a AD GPO in place on an OU where the device exists in AD But my task sequence fails at the ENABLE BITLOCKER stage towards the end of the TS. The TS was created by sccm wizard, nothing special in it as yet. If I disable the DISABLE BITLOCKER, PREPROVISION BITLOCKER and ENABLED BITLOCKER steps in the TS and build the device, then enable bitlocker manually logged on to the device, it works and saves the key to AD, I am obviously missing something here, anyone know where I should look in the logs... The device is uefi and has secureboot enabled The OS is Windows 81 x32
  5. Good morning, I'm trying to figure out how to apply a concatenated icacls command as part of a task sequence to enable inheritance on two files. Here's the command below: icacls "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config" /inheritance:e & icacls "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config" /inheritance:e I tried inputting this same command as part of a task sequence but it did not work. Any and all help is appreciated.

By any chance... I am deploying new OS and when I give a name to the new computer before running the task sequence, for some reason if have more than 8 characters when applying the new OS the task sequence fails. Is there any way I can override and set it to take more characters? I noticed it fails during the applying Operating System step
  7. Hello, The Task Sequence that was deploying W7 with SCCM 2012 SP1 has stopped to deploying the Lenovo X240 laptop. The Laptop must load WinPE on Workgroup & PXE When I get on F8 to get an ipconfig, nothing but the message "configuration IP" is dysplayed, then WinPE reboot. I don't know if the laptop has joined the workgroup The smsts.log show 2 mains errors : Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001) TSPxe 24/07/2015 16:09:06 1176 (0x0498) PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005 TSPxe 24/07/2015 16:09:06 1176 (0x0498) RegOpenKeyExW failed for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence TSBootShell 24/07/2015 16:09:06 784 (0x0310) GetTsRegValue() failed. 0x80070002. 8. I have some new HP Pro One 600 All In One units I am trying to pxe boot to run a task sequence on. Everything is normal until it starts to configure network settings, once that pop-up goes away it reboots. When I hit f8 and run an ipconfig it does not have an IP or anything. I am pretty sure I have the right drivers for the nic but could be wrong. When checking the smsts.log I get the following four errors, in order: Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001) PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005 RegOpenKeyExW failed for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence GetTsRegValue() failed. 0x80070002. Hopefully it is just a checkbox somewhere but have been scratching my head with this for sometime. I am currentling imaging other machines right now with the same task sequence. Thanks for the help.
  9. Hi Everyone Strange problem we seem to be getting - wonder if anyone else has found the same issue... Standard task sequence for deploying Windows 7 x86 and some standard software, used on 7 remote sites each using a local distribution point One site seems to keep failing, on installing a custom application. Same task sequence works on other sites without issue on same make and model of machine Rebuilt the distribution point onto the same hardware, from Svr2008 up to Svr2012R2 - still failed task sequence Built a new DP as a virtual machine for testing - distributed content needed - failed the task sequence Convert the application to a package and it works fine! - but that seems to be a step backwards, and the TS works without issue at all other sites! Anyone have any ideas on what to look at or try? Thanks John
  10. I have posted a guide on my blog that hopefully will be useful. Here is the link. https://buckingthesystemcenter.wordpress.com/
  11. Hello Everyone, I am doing PC OS Refresh (Win7-Win7) from OSD task sequence advertised as Optional in the Software Center, As a first step of task sequence, it launches a HTA which will prompt user consent to continue with re-imaginh. I am facing challenge in HTA appearing on top of all windows. I referred may articles bu helped partially. I don't want to use third party utility becasue of IT policies. I want to minimise the all the application if not at least Software center so that HTA is displayed on top. My HTA is created using VB Script. I have used ModalHTA option bu it gives option to close the HTA without answering the HTA user conset ( ACCEPT/CANCEL). Need breakthrough to solve this. Thanks in Advance.
  12. Hi, I've taken over a Task Sequence that was built by another person, and I am having issues with ALL machines being built by the TS finishing with the name "MINWINPC". Yes, I am kicking the built off using a USB stick (I've read posts that mention this being the case), but correct me if I am wrong, this appears to be if you use USB and deploy to Unknown Computers? So what I am inheriting is an MDT integrated TS in SCCM 2012 R2, which is deployed to a Device Collection as a Required deployment - so I can see if it is correctly resolving the machine MAC address to the device in SCCM 2012 R2 (otherwise it just doesn't build). I've even attempted to chuck in the TS this script - https://t3chn1ck.wordpress.com/2009/04/24/script-to-prompt-for-system-name-in-sccm-osd/ - to allow for prompting for a new name if MINWINPC is seen, but it quickly skips this step, and I can't see errors in the log. The interesting thing about this TS is that there are multiple PowerShell tasks that are used to download the WIM off the USB (it's been copied to the bootable USB's to save dragging it over the network) and applied using a DISM command in a PowerShell script (i.e. it's a bit different to just selecting the O/S you want to deploy and having it happen). But apart from that, nothing else seems to "out there" in terms of thinking, but I just can't figure out why the object in SCCM gets renamed to MINWINPC, the machine has that name and joins the Domain as that. Now, I can just go through the renaming process after, but that doesn't help if I ever want to build multiple machines at once. Got any ideas of where to look or how to overcome a MINWINPC issue? Thanks MG
  13. Hello, I have a problem with trying to join a domain and name the PC as part of a UDI task sequence using standalone media. The task sequence works just fine when PXE booting, but it will not do either task when using a USB drive. Do the task sequence variables that are set by the UDI somehow get reset before the domain join step when not connected to the SCCM server? If so, is there a way to get around this? Maybe using an unattend.xml file? I would appreciate any insight on this. Thanks. TheWes
  14. Hello, Just letting people know that I have just launched my own SCCM 2012 blog. Since most of the meat of operating system deployment, etc. has been covered by blogs such as this, I am focusing mine on more obscure issues that I have encountered. I only have one post up as of right now, but more are to follow. I hope someone finds it useful. Here is the link. https://buckingthesystemcenter.wordpress.com/ Wes
  15. As the title suggests: I'm looking for guidance on how to wipe the MBR via Task Sequence during an OSD. Any suggestions? We use Symantec Encryption Desktop (aka PGP) and it adds a bootguard to the MBR which needs to be cleared out (we need to wipe the MBR) in order for the machines to boot successfully. If I boot a Win8.1 amd64 ISO, select Repair > Advanced > Command Prompt > Run bootrec.exe /fixmbr, it works fine and corrects the issue so I thought "Why not add bootrec to our amd64 WinPE.wim?" I copied what I thought were the necessary files into our amd64 winpe.wim, based on the following sites: https://channel9.msdn.com/forums/TechOff/456721-Windows-PE-with-BOOTRECEXE/ http://gregwoods.co.uk/2010/04/creating-a-winpe-boot-dvd-for-disk-cloning/ http://www.audiodude.nl/?p=1217 I even pulled in the MUI's from WinSxS into the WIM And although it appears to run successfully, it executes and produces no errors, it doesn't seem to actually be doing anything as the problem persists on a reboot. Running bootrec /fixmbr and/or bootrec /fixboot multiple times in our amd64 WinPE media doesn't work; but booting a amd64 Win8.1 ISO and running bootrec /fixmbr once works. I've tried the following with no positive results: Creating a diskpart script to sel dis 0 and clean isn't sufficient; doesn't wipe the MBR Converting the disk to GPT then back to MBR, but prior to the format & partition step, will remove bootguard. HOWEVER, it causes the TS to fail once it gets into Windows with the following error: "Wizard Error: Unable to find the SMS Task Sequencer. The deployment will not proceed." I've tried doing this two ways, and while it clears the MBR, I get the 'Wizard Error' above. 1) Via a Task Sequence step that runs a diskpart script (again, prior to the format & partition step), and 2) Adding 'oUtility.RunCommandWrite oExec, "CONVERT GPT NOERR"' to around line 340 of the ZTIDiskPart script. Symantec says that uninstrumenting the drive should correct this, but you cannot uninstrument an encrypted disk and the decryption process takes way too long. (About 24 hours) Secure wiping the disk (e.g.: via WipeDisk, DBAN) works but takes way too long. (Several hours) Thoughts?
  16. Hi, if you are using UDI wizard to deploy your OS and If you want to have drivers installed for same laptop/machine but different OS you need to add a condition for both packages: 1. First you configure the operating systems in UDI wizard, then their name (Image Name, NOT display Name!) is what counts. 2. Then you implement OS into UDI task sequence, and for that to work you also use OSDImageName variable. For example Windows 7 x64 Enterprise you Add condition->TS variable->OSDImageName equals "Windows 7 x64 Enterprise", I got that name from UDI wizard. For Windows 8 x64 the same, just make another step including Install Operating system Windows 8 and change the variable according to the name. 3. Then create install driver steps both for different OS and also add the condition like bellow: You have to specify both conditions in order to work, otherwise it will install both driver packages. Thanks,
  17. Hi, I have created a .iso file using the create task sequence media option for Standalone media. Now I need to burn it to a DVD. Please let me know the steps. 1. I have tried to burn it by right click and burn disk image. This does not make it bootable. Should I use any 3rd party apps and which file should be referred to make it bootable. Below are the files from the .iso file.
  18. Hi Guys, Wanted to know if anyone has been able to create a method where they can identify when a particular Workstation was imaged and the name of the Task Sequence Used. Im looking to do this and just wanted some ideas on how to go about doing this. SCCM 2012 R2, MDT integrated. Thank you.
  19. The Global condition is looking at Active Directory site, other global conditions work fine from the task sequence
  20. Hi, Can someone please point me in the right direction so I can set the "IT Organization" name in the Task Sequence progress window. I've set this in the custom client settings which is deployed to the same collection as the task sequence. When I run a task sequence that captures User State (requires task sequence to be launched from Windows) the "IT Organization" works fine and it displays our company name. However, when I PXE boot a task sequence for a task sequence with no USMT capture, it only displays "IT Organization" in the task sequence progress window. This is when I launch from Software Center:
  21. Greetings All, I am having a bit of trouble creating a TS that creates two partitions. If I only have one it works perfectly as soon as I try and add the second the TS fails. I can see what is causing the failure but i don't know why. Let me know if any other info is needed. Desired Outcome: Windows 7 with two partitons C: and D: (system and data respectively) <-- This part does actually occur. But I end up with a partially imaged machine. Partition TS Step: The Cause: The _SMSTaskSequence folder gets placed on D: then after the step below occurs it starts looking for the TS files to be on E: which doesn't exist. (Full log attached) Cheers, Mike smsts.log
  22. Hi, I have a requirement to partition disks during OSD. I have used step Partition Disk 0 to create a single drive. Below are scenarios I would like advice on. 1. Creating C:\ 200GB & D:\ 300GB from a single disk of 500GB 2. D:\ if existing should not be formatted.
  23. Hi I still have problems with deploying Bitlocker in our environment (on laptops that don't need / haven't been reinstalled through SCCM yet) We switched to SCCM from Altiris around 2 years ago, the laptops that were installed through Altiris were setup with 2 partitions and the ones installed through SCCM I only installed Win7 Ent on 1 partition. See attached screenshots. Any ideas on the error message in the smsts.log file from the Altiris laptop (the one I have marked with a green square)?
  24. We are experience issues trying to deploy software packages via task sequences in SCCM 2012. The task sequences deploy to our test collections and report as being 100% compliant but no software is ever deployed. If we choose to deploy the software with wakeup packets the client computer turns on but the process goes no further. We are able to deploy packages to collections outside of task sequences without any issue. This is a brand new SCCM 2012 server which we are in the process of testing, we having a fully working and operational SCCM 2007 environment which we plan on eventually migrating over. During the course of the 2012 install we choose initially to have only 1 distribution point, and then to share the distribution points from the 2007 setup, our plan once finished was to then uninstall the 2007 distribution points and re-setup them up as 2012. The packages are definitely assigned to the distribution points and indeed the task sequences appear and pop up on the client computers within software center. The SMSTS.log on the client computers do not seem to update and neither does the distmgr.log, I can only assume we have missed something in the SCCM 2012 setup, task sequences & software deployments are not a problem in 2007. Is someone please able to put us out of our misery and point us in the right direction, thanks
  25. Hello, I am trying to run a OSD task sequence on a Dell XPS 13 laptop. This particular model does not have an ethernet port built in, and requires a ethernet to USB dongle. I have baked the drivers for the Dell LAN7500 into the image itself and everything is downloading, such as the driver packages and applications. The only problem is that it will not join the domain. My theory is that the dongle driver isn't ready to use until after the initial reboot and setup of the Windows installation, which happens after the Apply Network Settings step. I have tried moving that step to after the initial reboot, but it just hangs and eventually errors out. Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks! TheWes
