I am attempting to capture an x64 image of Windows 7 using SCCM and an image capture disk. I am getting an error that indicates that the user account that I am using to capture and write the image to a directory on the SCCM server does not have proper permissions to to write images to the directory in question. I have checked the NT permissions for the account that I am using and it does in fact have full permissions (this is a Domain Admin acocunt) Here are the steps I am following to failure - insert the disk - enter unc path to directory .wim file is to be written to - enter some other info (version, notes, etc...) - start the image capture process - watch machine reboot - watch the death of my SCCM x64 dream as I see the 0x800704cf one more time All indications that I have fond searching Google are that the account doens't have permission but it does. Any help or even useful ideas would be most appreciated.

Hello everyone, Here is my situation. I have a Windows XP in DOM A and SCCM A on which I am advertising a task sequence to deploy W7 and join DOM B with SCCM B. The migration/deployment scenario works great, no problem on that. My first steps that are done online (not in WinPE) are the following on the XP machine: -Backup of user settings with USMT -Backup of user data with Robocopy -Change the name of the computer locally/AD with a vbscript that also set the OSDComputerName variable with the new value -Restart on Windows (to validate the renaming) -Restart in WinPE and go on with the classic deployment (Format, dl of the .wim ...) The thing is that everytime, once the machine is in the new AD and SCCM it still has its old computername. Even though the script changed successfully the name of the computer in the AD and locally of the XP. So I am wondering if this is possible to set the OSDComputerName out of WinPE? And if yes am I doing it right? Here is the part of my script where I set the variable: dim env SET env = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment") env("OSDComputerName") = NewComputerName Where the variable NewComputerName is a variable set before with the new computer name (and it works as it changes the value in the AD). The script is run with an account that as domain admin privileges in DOM A and full access on a DFS in DOM B where the script and a csv file containing all the new values are stored. Hello, I have some questions about USMT and config.xml i was hoping someone can help me out. My understanding of using a Config.xml file is that I need one for systems going from XP to Windows 7 and another one for Windows 7 to Windows 7 since the DlManifests are different on the two OS's. So if I run Scanstate.exe on a XP machine, using ConfigXP.xml after upgrading the OS to Windows 7 i have to run the LoadState.exe using the ConfigXP.xml file? And the same goes for Windows 7 reimages. I use ScanState.exe with the ConfigW7.xml and restore using LoadState.exe with the ConfigW7.xml. If the above is true, what is the best way to automate if ScanState.exe was ran from a XP machine, to use the correct Config.XML file once the machine is upgraded to Windows 7? Thank you.

I just setup SCCM 2007 R3 on a Windows 2008 R2 Server with SQL 2008. The 2008 server is joined to my domain (DC = 2003 running AD, DHCP, DNS). I have followed all the steps here for installation and configuration. I am currently in the process of trying to run a Build and Capture of Windows 7 Enterprise x64 TS and I am having problems. I have been following this process to do so. This issue I am having is that during the process it won't capture the image. Once I get to the part of "Setup windows and ConfigMgr", it will download the Configuration Manager client file, say it is installing and then say that it is preparing my desktop and finally opens to the Windows 7 Desktop. It never captures the image, or installs the client back to the computer. I don't know where to look for why it is not working because I am not sure where to find the log files, since the client never gets installed again. I can include any screenshots or log files needed, just let me know which ones. Also the TS if need be. Any help would be great!

Hello! I'm currently attempting to deploy Windows 7 and Office 2010 in the same task sequence. In my current TS, Windows 7 installs correctly, but Office 2010 does not. The error I get in smsts.log is that the step (Install Software) must be running in full OS. However, I tell the PC to reboot before it attempts to run this package - and to restart into the default operating system (not Windows PE). Is there some setting I've missed somewhere? Hey, First post here, I have had a look through the forums and cant see the issue we're having. Basically we were using SCCM 2007 R2 happily using boot media to image our machines one at a time, after some time we decided to enable PXE booting and imaging of "All Unknown Computers". It seems that since enabling this we're having localisation issues, namely that the location of the machine is being set to United States, along with keyboard layout being set to en-US. I have checked all settings within our Task Sequence and these seem ok. I have also checked our Unattended.xml in Windows System Image Manager and ensured all the settings there are set to en-GB. Despite all of these settings being correct the keyboard layout still seems to be en-US on all computers we image/re-image. Any advice in this issue would be greatly appreciated. Hello guys, This request is kind of special but this is due to the migration we are doing. In fact we are in an environment where two Active Directory trees are presents, one with SCCM 2007 the other with SCCM 2012. The thing is during the migration, the workstation has to change its domain to the one with SCCM 2012. However, my problem is that I need to boot in Windows PE from the SCCM 2007, then download the WIM image and the SCCM client from the SCCM 2012. Is there a way to do that? I think I basically need a script to change "the environment" during the Task Sequence. Thanks a lot If I wasn't clear enough, please do feel free to ask me questions.

We are deploying Windows 7 with SCCM and I have a build and Capture TS being advertised to a VM and the capturing it. Afterwards I want to deploy this image to all my machine. To Deploy a theme to my image I have tried..The following! I have applied a windows color, themename, and background image during the unattend.xml file applied created with WAIK I have just applied a THEME that I created and deployed to the computer during the build and Capture. I have ran winsat.exe formal at the end of my TS I have ran winsat.exe dwm formal during the unattend.xml file at the oobe > First Login commands. I have applied all of the at once to see if I can get my image to enable Aero. Every time I set the themes I get my background but the windows color is Basic. But as soon as the machine boots up I can go to personalize and change my theme to Windows 7 and aero turns on right away. I have all the driver that I need to have aero enable but through the TS it will just never enable Aero. Can someone please help. I would like to know how everyone else enable areo through deployment. Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone, We currently have over 1000 objects in AD which should all have a healthy SCCM client, but due to the PC's not being turned on all the time the client becomes corrupt for some reason. I beleive the most efficient way to fix those PC's on the network that have SCCM issues is to have a script read from a computers.txt list, which contains all the corrupted computers, and have the script grab that name from the computers.txt list and let the script run a ccmsetup.exe on that remote PC using PSEXEC. We currently use site code AP0 and have the ccmsetup.exe file. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi guys, I stumbled across this site through google and I think this might be the best place for me to ask some broad (as well as some very pointed) questions about the whole thing. First off, this acronym soup is killing me. I've got a pretty healthy list of things I need to remember now. With that being said, here is what I currently am doing to deploy Windows 7 to our computers (Mostly Dells): 1. Use MDT to add applications, out-of-box drivers (organized into Operating system, then machine model), and a custom task sequence to rename the primary partition "Local Disk". 2. Add the Lite Touch iso created by MDT into WDS. Do a normal WDS deployment via PXE So my questions really are these: 1. Is this a reasonable way to do it? 2. How can I improve it to make it as automated as possible? 3. Where does WSIM come into play? I would love to be able to define some settings, but also they very from computer to computer slightly. Can I create multiple autounattend.xml files that all use the same install.wim file? 4. How can I set the computer name automatically to be the dell service tag during install instead of declaring it during the Deployment Wizard? 5. How do I update my install.wim file with new Windows Updates offline (by NOT installing Windows onto a reference machine and capturing a new wim file)? 6. In a general sense, can I continue to do most things in MDT and then use WDS to actually push the OS out? Is that the standard method? Thanks! Brian

When trying to install and update an application via Task Sequence or normal application deploy with SCCM 2007, it doesn't update the registry properly. It is not updating HKLM/Software/Application/, only the /Software/Wow6432Node/Application/, the application requires the first part to have the correct values. Target is windows 7 SP1 64bit When I run it locally it works (copy the files to the desktop and run from elevated command prompt). I see the update in regedit. I understand this is because of 64bit registry protection, so I tried the Task sequence with disable 64bit filesystem redirection (does filesystem include registry?), didn't make a difference. Currently I have 3 files in a folder on a share, install.cmd, snare.reg, and the application. yes DP is updated. Package is set to execute install.cmd, install.cmd contains the following: copy snare.reg %windir% start /wait SnareForWindows-4.0.0.2-MultiArch.exe /verysilent start /wait regedit.exe /s %windir%\snare.reg net stop snare net start snare -- Also in the TS, I set a command line step "regedit.exe /s %windir%\snare.reg" (I have also tried "start /wait cmd /c reg import snare.reg"), set "Disable 64bit redirection", and set "Run this step as the following account" and input a local admin account (also tried with this unchecked). getting errors 0x80070002 and 0x800700C1 on 2 different test systems, both fail the task sequence. The application installs fine, but registry doesn't update. The snare.reg file is successfully copied to the windows directory. How should one deploy a reg update on a 64bit system? Am I running into some weird limitation in SCCM or a scripting issue with remote installs and SYSTEM? The application also has an option to set the settings via an INF file but that just updates the registry the same way. I don't have access to AD or GPOs. Tried psexec with no luck. Struggling with this for days, thanks !

Hi Niall, Firstly thanks for all the great work you have done on WindowsNoob. It's great site and without sites like yours I simply wouldn't have been able to progress with SCCM ( I have attended the MS training course). I wonder if it was possible for you to tell me how I can debug why a Gather step in a OS deployment TS would send the TS to the last step without doing the intervening steps. I am talking about the gather process that happens right at the start. format and partition, Toolkit package then gather. Soon after this the machine doesn't go to the next step but goes straight to the last step which Gather Logs and statestore on Failure. I went through smsts.og but couldn't find the silver bullet. Is there anything else i can do ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an issue where my PC keeps waking from sleep. I have checked the eventlogs and it seems to the be the HD Audio Device that wakes the PC. The PC is a Windows 7 Ultumate 64-Bit edition running on a notebook with no domain, i.e. a normal home PC. I have tried to start the PC in Safe Mode, logonto a true admin account, still same error.

Hello Everyone, I could do with a little help with the final stages of OSD with SCCM 2007 R2. I have managed to capture a windows 7 x86 lite image, and deploy this to different hardware types. My issues are the following:- My OSDComputerName.vbs does not prompt for the computer name. My task sequences fails on enabling administrator account with password. SMSTS.Log states:- The step (Apply Windows Settings) must be running in WinPE Failed to run the action: Apply Windows Settings. The request is not supported. (Error: 80070032; Source: Windows) The client does not join the domain after build (I have checked and the account being used has the correct rights and no OU is being specified, No error message.) I can no longer logon to the client using the local admin account that was created before the capture. If anyone can help me with any of the above, or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful, I’m about to pull out my hair….. Many Thanks,

Please point me in the right direction if this has already been covered somewhere else... I'm looking for a way to easily monitor the hard drive health of about a 100 win7 desktops in a windows domain. We do use SCCM2007. Is there a free or pay tool that would work, maybe send me emails if a hard drives SMART status degrades? I see tons of single system tools but need one with good enterprise level or centuralized monitoring and reporting abilities. Thanks for any suggestions. Fred

Can anyone suggest a way to test the image last modify date, prior of deploying it? I would like to make sure that the image selected in the task sequence is not older than 60 days, and if it is, stop the task sequence from even starting. I would like the test to be available in both MDT 2010 and SCCM deployment scenarios. TIA

Hello, I have set up a WDS for Win 7 using MDT 2010. Everything works great except for a couple of minor tweaks that I haven't been able to figure out. First, the default desktop icon size is quite large. I would like it to be smaller and set that way for all users. Any idea how I can do this? Is it done before the machine is sysprep'd or is it a post install hack? Second, Since I am deploying this image on multiple machines and different models, how can I set the video resolution to default to the cards preferred setting? Right now it always defaults to 1024x768 no matter what type of system/video card. Yes I am using the proper drivers for each model by injecting with task sequencing. Thanks for any and all help. Dave
