  1. Hi All, Has anyone ever written a script or report to pull out packages and applications which are not distributed to any DPs? We are wanting to do some cleaning up of our source folder... Thanks John
  2. Is it possible to set a deployment to superseded another deployment and it automatically installs for all those users which have it installed, but remains "available" for those that haven't. Take for instance a Java install. I create a Java application with v8.35. I set it as Available and deploy to the Staff collection. Users who require Java can install it and the rest do not. A new version is released. I create a new application Java v8.45. I set it to superseded v8.35 and deploy as 'Available' again to the Staff collection. I retire v8.35 at the same time. How can I make the deployment update all those users who manually chose to install v8.35, but not force a collection wide "required" rollout of java. Thanks in advance. I think I know the answer in that SCCM doesn't handle third party software updates like this, but it seems like a pretty straightforward and basic feature that would benefit many.
  3. Hello all - I have a very strange problem that I can't seem to find an answer to. We recently upgraded our server from 2008 to 2012, and then to R2 and SCCM 2012 to R2 as well. Previously, we would deploy an image to a computer, and the Client would automatically install, and within about 45min - 1.5 hours all of the software would install automatically. After the R2 install, we had a new computer that needed to be imaged. No changes to the workflow were made since this process last worked. I installed the image, and came back the next day to find no software was installed. Everything was sitting at "Downloading 0%". I messed around with some settings in my IIS (I originally couldn't reach the application website, and thought that may be part of the problem), uninstalled and reinstalled the client a few times, and suddenly everything started installing again. It all worked perfectly. However, I decided to try imaging a test machine to see if I could replicate the problem. Sure enough, as soon as the client installs and finds applications, they are stuck at "Waiting to Install". I've dug through the logs, and can't seem to find much, although there are quite a few logs to look through. Even weirder - if I uninstall the client and reinstall it, and then wait for a while (usually overnight), I'll come back to all of the applications installed normally! I've redistributed all of the applications (90+) to our distribution server. No errors there. I've turned off pre-staged content in the distribution settings. We had it on, but were not using it (we only have one server, which is also the distribution point). No change. I even went so far as to make a new image, completely devoid of any installed programs. No Change. I made a new copy of the Configuration Manager Client and deployed the new version with the clean image. No change. If I open C:\Windows\CCMCache, I can see all of the programs, files, and installers listed there. It seems like it's downloaded everything and ready to go, but it's waiting for something to finish before starting to install. But what, I don't know. I do not use SCCM for Windows Updates, so it's not waiting for software updates. I've tried restarting a few times, no change. I came back to the machine this morning after letting it sit overnight, and everything was on "past due - will be installed". When I clicked on a program and selected "install", it worked just fine. A number of other programs worked as well. I tried deleting and redeploying an application that was previously on "waiting to install" (today it was "past due"), and the machine picked it up and installed it immediately. I forgot to mention - I don't have any maintenance windows created (that I know about). Any ideas? Everything just used to install almost immediately. Where should I look? What logs?
  4. So I have a scenario that I work at a college full of computer labs that have a basic load on all of the machine with some variations in each lab. For example while all of the labs will have MS Office not all of them have Autocad. Anyways I was wondering if there was anyway that I could use SCCM's Compliance feature to make the right software was installed in the right labs, and if a machine was missing something, then in remediation it would autoload said missing software? John
  5. I'm trying to deploy Java 8 to our workstations for the first time, using v8u31. We currently have v7u71 installed. I ran the EXE and grabbed the msi from it's location in appdata like I normally do. I understand that there's no longer a cab file to go with the msi, it's all included in the msi file itself. I created an application and deployment type in SCCM from the msi file as normal, but it's failing to install. I've searched online a bit and found several posts with varying syntax to use for the command line, but after trying each one I'm still getting the same failure with return code 1603. I tried installing manually from a command prompt using one of the same command lines that was failing, and was able to install it successfully. Has anyone here been able to successfully deploy a recent version of Java as an application through SCCM? How did you do it? Here's the section of AppEnforce.log showing the install attempt: <![LOG[+++ Starting Install enforcement for App DT "Java 8 Update 31 - Windows Installer (*.msi file)" ApplicationDeliveryType - ScopeId_CADCA650-1EC0-4F91-96E4-EB2F3A11F57F/DeploymentType_7f67f2fc-8f14-4ccd-9c4f-759a278963a0, Revision - 12, ContentPath - C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\7q, Execution Context - System]LOG]!><time="12:01:27.777+360" date="02-05-2015" component="AppEnforce" context="" type="1" thread="6996" file="appprovider.cpp:1702"> <![LOG[ A user is logged on to the system.]LOG]!><time="12:01:27.779+360" date="02-05-2015" component="AppEnforce" context="" type="1" thread="6996" file="appprovider.cpp:2083"> <![LOG[ Performing detection of app deployment type Java 8 Update 31 - Windows Installer (*.msi file)(ScopeId_CADCA650-1EC0-4F91-96E4-EB2F3A11F57F/DeploymentType_7f67f2fc-8f14-4ccd-9c4f-759a278963a0, revision 12) for system.]LOG]!><time="12:01:27.782+360" date="02-05-2015" component="AppEnforce" context="" type="1" thread="6996" file="appprovider.cpp:2148"> <![LOG[+++ Application not discovered. 6. Good Morning All, I am no wizard with SQL or even SCCM reporting, I have dabbled but that's about it... I am looking for a report which will tell me which applications, and which programs do not have any deployments? Can anyone help? Thanks John Rickard
  7. Hi, I need to deploy Oracle database client 11 g to some of our already installed client devices and thou OSD deployment. I did some research how other did it but couldn't find a way which matched out company. I read that is should work to install it as a task sequence with only one command, but I was not able to make it work. So I made a good old fashion batch-file. @echo offnet use /delete N: net use N: "\\Server\windows\Oracle\Oracle 11gR2\x86\client" /USER:domain\cm_jd xxxxxx N: REM Set TMP=C:\TEMP\Oracle REM Set TEMP=C:\TEMP\Oracle setup.exe -silent -nowelcome -responseFile "N:/response/NetListner.rsp" echo Installing Oracle 11g with NetListner please wait.. Timeout /t 60 /NOBREAK > NUL echo Copy tnsnames\tnsnames.ora to C:\Oracle\11.2.0\NETWORK\ADMIN\ Timeout /t 5 /NOBREAK > NUL copy tnsnames\tnsnames.ora C:\Oracle\11.2.0\NETWORK\ADMIN C: net use /delete N: /y echo Installation completed.. Timeout /t 5 /NOBREAK > NUL It works but there must be a better way? Best regards, Brian Pedersen
  8. Hi Windows-Noob ppl, I have this problem and I don't know how to solve it. If i want to edit an applications requirement I get the first image no options at all. When I want to set an requirement on a application I get the second image, no options at all. It's like the box is not initiated or something. I don't know where to look to fix this issue. Just to clear it out I am full administrator and it has worked before, as you can see in the first image. A some sort of related question on my other post: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10776-wsus-classification-problems/ Anyone seen this before?
  9. Hello, I have a program that uses an old installer without any silent options. I've created a AutoIT script that clicks on the buttons of the setup program when it launches. When using this program within a SCCM Package, the setup launches to the screen visible to the user. But when I run it as a SCCM Application the setup is not visible to the user and the AutoIT script fails. There are several differences between the wording in Package and Application; in Application it's "Install for user", in Package, its "Run with user's rights". Are these interchangeable? In the Package i have "Allow users to interact with this program" and in the Application i have "Allow users to view and interact with the program installation" selected. It would have been nice to use an Application for this but if I need to use a Package that's fine. My question is why this is happening. Any ideas? Thanks, Shawn
  10. We are continously experiencing the same failure towards the end of our OS deployment, but we are unable to determine what is causing it? I have attached a copy of the smsts log for review. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Learing still and find this site to be an excellent tool with great people that love to help. It's great! smsts.log
  11. Hello all the experts out there. I have recently upgraded SCCM 2012 R2 and am now experiencing and issue with my task sequences not completing correctly. They all (Build, deploy, win7 and win8) get to the point where they install the client and then reboot straight into windows without installing updates or applications. Things I have checked: Boot image version is: 6.3.9600.16384 TS uses correct boot image TS is Newly created CM TS not MDT TS Network Account password I am using ADK 8.1 and MDT 2013 The smsts.log file has the strange error "Failed to get password, Failed to resume task sequence (0x80070057)" as seen in the attached. I am also sometimes getting this error as well "failed to register task sequence with the newly installed client" It also does not remove the _SMSTaskSequence folder created on C:\ Please help as this is driving me crazy Thanks in advance, Jason
  12. OK, so here's my scenario. I've created two Applications each of which have more than 1 Application Type. When I created and tested them both with a deployment to a collection and during OSD with PXE they work fine. What is "special" I think about them though is that I have made the dependencies for the Application Types are in the same Application. When I try to run the Task Sequence on a Stand-Alone USB drive is NOT connected to the network these two Applications do not install. If I run the same Task Sequence on the same Stand-Alone USB drive the TS fails. So in case I'm not clear on how the Application\Deployment Type is set up let me try and diagram it Application 1 -Deployment Type 1 - Patch .0.5 -Deployment Type 2 - Patch .1 -Deployment Type 3 - MSI v1 The application is called Patch .05 is called and has a dependency of Patch .1 Patch .1 has a dependency of the MSI The MSI is installed, then Patch .1 is installed, then Patch .05 is installed resulting in a fully patched version of the original MSI v1.1.5 Application 2 is pretty much the same logic as Application 1, just with only 2 Deployment Types. My question is, why will these run correctly when the client machine is connected to the network, but when run on a Stand-Alone USB and not connected they fail? I have other applications that call other applications in the same TS and those work fine, so it seems that SCCM doesn't like the dependency being in the SAME application. If I have to I will break them out into separate applications, but that seem pretty silly! I can provide SMSTS and AppEnforcement logs or whatever logs I can get from the client if needed.
  13. We are currently running SCCM 2012 R2 on a Windows Server 2012 environment. We deploy Windows 8.1 - 64 bits through a task sequence. Our question is, is it possible to deploy a Wireless profile through a script/package during the OSD task sequence? I've fiddled around with a script using NETSH, and manually i'm able to import / export a profile. However, this only works in the current user context. Unfortunately you cannot use 'user context' driven packages in a task sequence. Is there another method? Thanks in advance.
  14. Is there a supported way to create an application with a deployment type of AppV through the use of the SDK? been searching on the googles and have come up dry...
  15. I am trying to deploy Axis Camera Station 3.50 to a device collection. The installation is an exe so I have created a script deployment type. The command to install silently is "AXISCameraStation.exe" /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /EULA=ACCEPT /TYPE=CLIENT. When I run this command locally (connecting to my nas) it installs just fine. On SCCM it gets stuck at installing. I've tried all kinds of setting combinations to get this to work and "Installing" is as far as I have gotten. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hello, I have been trying to wrap my head around this problem. I am an SCCM 2007 administrator and we are porting over our packaged applications to SCCM 2012. Some of our packages have multiple programs attached to them. The programs attached to some of our packages define certain settings a group will get. For example "Package A" is used by 3 different business units and each has a certain configuration, so Program 1 will perform a slightly different configuration then program 2 or 3. Here inlays the problem, one of the major differences with the Application model in SCCM 2012 is that you can have multiple deployment types but they will be sequentially run at deployment time with whatever requirements are met. One way I have been trying to get around this with little luck is create a scripted Global Condition that will pull back a list of all the groups a user is in. $Raw = C:\Windows\system32\whoami /groups /fo csv /nh $isgroup = $Raw | %{$_.Split(",")[0] } | %{ $_ -replace ","""} Return $isgroup If run this in PowerShell it will return every single group a user is in from their current logged on system, each group is displayed on a new line. I have also tried to make them display all in one line $sg = $isgroup -join ' ' Return $sg Since I know each group will have an Active Directory Security Group that is unique to the business unit I can then add that requirement set the operator to "Contains" and the value to "Domain\ADGroup" in the Requirements tab in the deployment type. When I go to deploy the application this explicitly fails out during the Requirements evaluation phase. Has anyone been able to resolve this problem? Or is this a limitation of SCCM 2012? I have seen examples online which basically run the whoami tool and compare it to a static group within the script. I do not want to create dozens of these Global Conditions. I would like to tackle this with one condition. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  17. Using SCCM 2012 and deploying applications. Say I deploy Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (9.0.0) now say 1 month goes by and there is an update to 9.1.0. How would I deploy that to the already installed 9.0.0 and then update the install to the collection so it installs 9.0.0 and then updates to 9.1.0? I am using ad groups to collection and then advertising to the collection. I would like to perform the updates even though they are up to 9.4.1 and have to increment. Most of this is to clean up old installs that have not been patched. I have more applications then just this one? Do I create a new application for each of the updates or is there a better way?
  18. Hello, I have an Office 2010 32 bits package, I deploy this package on 32 and 64 bits OS with SCCM 2012. I want to convert this package into an application and I would like to know if I should check the "run installation program as 32-bit process on 64-bit clients" box in the installation program ? If yes, should I do the same thing for all my 32 bits applications ? Thank you.
  19. Hello, I have to deploy an executable program with SCCM 2012 and I would like to create an application. I was wondering which deployment type I was supposed to use: - script installer - msi and what is the difference between them ? If the one I choose doesn't work, can I change it after ? Thank you.
  20. I'm i bit puzzeld at the moment. I've tryed to create an Application to install an msi program and then copy a linces file to a lokal path on the computer. The MSI part of tings work great but not the script I'm running to copy the lisence file. I'm using a simple cmd script to copy the fil and im ending up With a error 0x1(acces denied). I'f I create an package the script Works. Is it not possible to use cmd scripts within an Application? Cheers, Øyvind Skjellin
  21. Hi all, We seem to have a random issue when deploying applications with dependencies. The files download in both software centre and the cache but then doesnt install with the message "Waiting for the next available maintenance schedule". This is a user based collection for the installation and there are no maintenance windows for this. If you click install the software is then installed but we cant expect users to do that. The software is required not available etc. Screenshot below of software centre Any one seen this before of have any ideas? This doesnt happen unless the application has dependencies Many thanks, Jon
  22. Is there an easy (automated) way to remove software from a user/computer when removing that object from a collection?
  23. Hello I have set up SCCM 2012 with MDT 2012 integration. I have successfully created build and capture task sequence. I have also created office 2010 application which deploys without any problems to collections. My problem is when I want to install applications in a task sequence. I made a task sequence which only contains install application. I select multiple application using base variable. I set the variable in the collection variable on my collection. First I thought the problem was related to setting the variable, but from the log I can see that the variable is working, and it's adding the office application to the list. The task sequence completes. Says installed in the software center, but no application has been installed. Don't think it's downloaded the office either. Tried adding one more application, same thing. Says adding 2 applications, but none is downloaded or installed. If I don't use the variable, but select applications to install everything works and the applications get installed. Is there a setting I'm missing? I have ticked the option. "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action instead of deploying it manually" I am also sure that the DP is updated. It works if I select the application in the task sequence, but not when using multiple applications based on a base variable. Any inputs is much appreciated.
  24. Hello everyone, I just realized that in my SCCM2012 RC1 lab, all the applications that I've created do not show up in the application catalog website (http://sccmServer/CMApplicationCatalog). These applications do show up in Software Center client though. Can someone point me on a direction to troubleshoot this?
  25. Why is this always greyed out when I deploy an application? I am using msi's as instructed in the guides, but every application I have will not allow that functionality, any ideas? I would really like to see the approval request work flow.
