  1. Hi! What is the best way to deploy Java Update using SCCM 2012 in a corporate enviroment? Today we use a script that kills internet browser and all java running, notifying the users to save work etc. I'm hoping that there is a smoother way to do this using applications in SCCM 2012? Cheers, Oyvind
  2. First, thank you all for putting together such a complete forum on SCCM and related topics as they have been essential in my daily duties. We are attempting to deploy custom normal.dotm, blank.potx, and normalemail.dotm files which are configured for Verdana font. So far, the following items have been completed: 1. Created customized W7 Image on VMWare 2. Installed Office 2010 SP1 with custom (normal.dotm, blank.potx, normalemail.dotm) located at c:\users\%username%\appdata\microsoft\templates 3. Ran Sysprep by running following .CMD <C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /oobe /shutdown /generalize /unattend:C:\windows\system32\sysprep\unattend.xml> 4. Captured .wim using ImageX 5. Deploying OSD via SCCM 2012 All customizations are deployed properly to all users who login except for the Office Template files (CopyProfile=True in unattended.xml). The path c:\users\%username%\appdata\microsoft\temlates is not copied to each user who logs in. To rectify this, we added a RunOnce registry entry on our Reference Machine to create the path and copy the necessary files. We thought this was the fix, but once Word is launched for the first time it renames the normal.dotm file to .old. Microsoft has published the following article to address this issue (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2408845) which does work on a per user basis. However, we need to ensure this registry entry is present for any user who logs into the computer. At this point, we have tried also using the RunOnce function to import the reg key ("HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\MigrateNormalOnFirstBoot", 1, "REG_DWORD") but this has not worked in adding the Reg entry for each user. Can we get some guidance on how to best deploy custom normal.dotm, blank.potx, and normalemail.dotm during OSD with SCCM 2012. Thank you all!
  3. Is it possible to build and capture in SCCM 2007 with static network info or am I just banging my head against the wall? I currently am trying to boot from media, enter network info, and trying to use the capture network to hang on to network settings through out. I have a feeling this futile though. I know I can build the machine and capture via media but I was hoping to do all though the TS. Any help is much appreciated. I wish our network section would just go to DHCP already and make my life easier. Mike
  4. Has anyone successfully deployed this with SCCM? I'm using 2012. I've found various cryptic ways they say it can be done but none of them seem to work. Thanks!!
  5. In a deploy task sequance you can set the AD location of the machine to build to, can you how ever have the machine detect the location (OU) that is is currently in and build to the same place or do you have to have a different ask sequence for every AD location? Thanks
  6. Using SCCM 2012 and deploying applications. Say I deploy Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (9.0.0) now say 1 month goes by and there is an update to 9.1.0. How would I deploy that to the already installed 9.0.0 and then update the install to the collection so it installs 9.0.0 and then updates to 9.1.0? I am using ad groups to collection and then advertising to the collection. I would like to perform the updates even though they are up to 9.4.1 and have to increment. Most of this is to clean up old installs that have not been patched. I have more applications then just this one? Do I create a new application for each of the updates or is there a better way?
  7. Hi, I am having a very strange error crop up while testing the deploy and capture of a boot OS via a task sequence. The error occurs on x86 or x64, on VM's or physical clients. SCCM 2012 is installed per the fantastic tutorial here and this error is appearing on part 7. When deploying the boot image to the target pc, the PE environment loads and immediately resets the client pc with this error: Failed to run task sequence - An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer (0x80004005) After some searching around I found and tried these: Link 1: Permissions & Link 2: Certificates Unfortunately, neither helped. I have granted sufficient permissions to client systems to access the boot.wim image and the only certificate available is loaded into SCCM and is unblocked. Its difficult to be 100% sure re the certificates issue, as that link is to a 2007 SCCM structure and I think that Admin.\Security\Certificates would be the corresponding location in 2012. At this point I have reinstalled the distribution point, setup new boot images for both x86 & x64, created new tasks and sent them out to the clients and still ... nothing. Clients are still restarting immediately after the PE loads. I have tried to look at the smsts.log on the clients, but they are listed as empty, so cannot. The smspxe.log file reports business as usual with no unusual\error based behaviour. Any ideas anyone or anyWeb? At this point I am at my wits end, but need to continue regardless... Cheers & Thanks
  8. We are deploying Windows 7 with SCCM and I have a build and Capture TS being advertised to a VM and the capturing it. Afterwards I want to deploy this image to all my machine. To Deploy a theme to my image I have tried..The following! I have applied a windows color, themename, and background image during the unattend.xml file applied created with WAIK I have just applied a THEME that I created and deployed to the computer during the build and Capture. I have ran winsat.exe formal at the end of my TS I have ran winsat.exe dwm formal during the unattend.xml file at the oobe > First Login commands. I have applied all of the at once to see if I can get my image to enable Aero. Every time I set the themes I get my background but the windows color is Basic. But as soon as the machine boots up I can go to personalize and change my theme to Windows 7 and aero turns on right away. I have all the driver that I need to have aero enable but through the TS it will just never enable Aero. Can someone please help. I would like to know how everyone else enable areo through deployment. Thanks for any help.
  9. Hi Niall, Firstly thanks for all the great work you have done on WindowsNoob. It's great site and without sites like yours I simply wouldn't have been able to progress with SCCM ( I have attended the MS training course). I wonder if it was possible for you to tell me how I can debug why a Gather step in a OS deployment TS would send the TS to the last step without doing the intervening steps. I am talking about the gather process that happens right at the start. format and partition, Toolkit package then gather. Soon after this the machine doesn't go to the next step but goes straight to the last step which Gather Logs and statestore on Failure. I went through smsts.og but couldn't find the silver bullet. Is there anything else i can do ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
