  1. Hi all, Firstly congratulations on an awesome site and community.. it is so widely used it was mentioned whilst on a SCCM2012 deployment course I recently attended. I am experiencing a very strange problem with SCCM 2007 and advertising task sequences. We are beginning a Windows 7 migration (15k clients joy!) and I have created and finalized a base task sequence with enough core apps that it will go on to every machine. This works with a test VM and any new clients brought down to it.. I moved out to our first pilot site.. set up PXE on the standard DP and duplicated my original task sequence.. I then imported a list of MAC addresses of 10 test Toshiba Netbooks, (these are new PC's never been into SCCM before) via the computer association tab to a new collection. I advertised the duplicated task sequence to these machines and if i boot either via PXE or USB drive I get Abort PXE with the line MAC=00:8C:FA:2D:BB:4A SMBIOS GUID=80400288-163D-E211-9729-008CFA2DBB4A > Device found in the database. MacCount=1 GuidCount=0 smspxe 15/05/2013 08:20:43 3808 (0x0EE0) [010.019.022.029:4011] Recv From:[010.019.010.029:68] Len:303 159df30 smspxe 15/05/2013 08:20:43 1828 (0x0724) Executing GetBootAction(12182, ICH-MEDIA) smspxe 15/05/2013 08:20:43 3808 (0x0EE0) No Boot Action for Device (12182) found smspxe 15/05/2013 08:20:43 3808 (0x0EE0) ProcessDatabaseReply: No Advertisement found in Db for device smspxe 15/05/2013 08:20:43 3808 (0x0EE0) or if via USB I get no task sequences availble for this computer. I tried creating a new task sequence from scratch and advertising it but get the same issues.. . The twist in this tale that I am unable to find anything on the web is if I add one of these Toshiba's to the original test collection where the advertised task sequence lives it works 100%. Has anyone seen anything like it? I'm going a bit nuts here.. have performed a full PXE/WDS remove and reinstall as per a guide I found on a technet blog.
  2. I'm fairly new to the SCCM Scene, we just received our latest PC upgrades and they all came with UEFI so i was hoping to push our company ahead a bit and take advantage of some of the UEFI benefits. So i need to know Can SCCM 2012 Image a machine that uses UEFI With windows 7? and if it can is there a tutorial for what is different, or what added processes are required? Thanks in advance for any help!
  3. I have been using Config manager 2012 for 9 months now without any issues. We are using Microsoft DHCP server and everything is working perfect. We are migrating our DHCP over to our core switch. I have added in all the necessary options as below to the cisco DHCP pool. ip dhcp pool SCCM2012 network 10.10.66.0 255.255.255.0 domain-name ******** dns-server 10.20.6.1 default-router 10.10.66.1 option 66 ip 10.4.73.38 option 67 ascii "\SMSBoot\x86\wdsnbp.com" option 60 ip 10.4.73.38 I have also added the IP helper command on the VLAN interface. THe machine boots to win PE as normal and receives an IP address ok. However after I enter the pxe password to begin the task sequence it fails. " an error occured while trying to retreive a policyfor this cmputer the task sequence. 0x8004005" I know the this is not down to sccm as it works perfectly fine using a Microsoft dhcp server. 4. Anyone know of an easy way to name a computer to its serial number during OSD? I have a vbs script that I used under Altiris but how/where would I inject this script during OSD?
  5. Hi, I have upgrade to SCCM 2012 and OSD was working fine for a while however now if I try to boot via PXE or USB media I get the following error after the loading bar of the task sequence: An error occurred while starting the task sequence (0x8007000E). 6. Hi, With SCCM 2012 we are targetting users to deploy software. In my Windows 7 OSD task sequence I set UDA to link the user to the machine, so the user's software can install without the user logging on. We don't want to provide a computer to a user with half of his software installed so I need a way to check if all user's software is properly installed. How can I do that? Thx.
  7. I have been working for a company for a while almost a year and we have been using Ghost to image the machines. This has been very good and has worked very reliably for the company for many years. However, recently I have been encountering a lot of issues due to drivers, especially since we now have a lot of new Lenovo Laptops and various other models besides Dell now. Basically we have 1 Master Image with every driver on it for all the different models we have about 10 models or so. I really could use the help with this, I have been very quiet but I have read a lot of posts, forums, articles and watched countless videos just not sure what I actually need and if it is even possible. What I want (future) Migrate from Ghost to MDT easily without loosing all the work that was done to make the current images. MDT because managing drivers appears easier and more precise; so the correct model and driver should always be used and installed. PXE Boot / Light Touch or Zero Touch Windows 7 and Windows 8 Imaging Only no XP The Current Setup. Dedicated Local Gigabit Network for Ghosting which includes Server 2003 running DHCP, DNS and Ghost Our Images are stock full of customization and changes. I do not want to re-create / re-install all these applications again. Problems: Drivers get installed on computer that it can't use or doesn't belong to No DOS drivers for lenovo laptops have to remove drive and image manually. Since our images are very customized already with lots of oracle configuration changes that have been made specifically for our environment how can I preserve this image and migrate it to MDT without having to re-do all this customization? Would this even be possible? I have the following software available to me: -Windows Server 2008R2 and Server 2012 -SCCM 2012 don't really want to use it... little big I think! -Windows 7
  8. Thanks for looking over this question. It's driving me crazy. In our corporate environment we have many workstations that auto log in with a machine-specific username and password. We are a hospital, and these are exam PCs, so many important variables are attached to these unique IDs. Right now, the environment is Windows XP 32 bit. We are using Config Manager 07 to deploy Windows 7 64 bit. In the XP environment, I have my task sequence do a command to back up the registry information I need before it downloads PE and reboots. It's a native command line, and it runs a batch file located on a remote server that builds a custom reg file for that machine, naming it dynamically based on the machine's name using the %computername% variable. It pulls out 5 values from this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon It puts them all into a single .reg file that can then be merged manually or via a command line on the 64 bit machine. The reg file works, so it's not malformed or incompatible. However, the problem is that I want do this part automatically as part of the task sequence. There are simply too many PCs to do it manually one-by-one. At the end of my task sequence, after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr, I have placed the 4 attempts, each in their own task: C:\Windows\REGEDIT /s \\server\share\temp\%computername%.reg -redirection is OFF reg add \\server\share\temp\%computername%.reg -redirection is OFF C:\Windows\REGEDIT /s \\server\share\temp\%computername%.reg -redirection is ON reg add \\server\share\temp\%computername%.reg -redirection is ON All of these tasks have Continue on Error enabled and they are all running with an admin account. Again, if I run any one of these commands from the command line while logged in as the admin, they work. As a TS, they do not. From what I can tell the problem is that once the TS is complete there is a hidden final task to prepare the machine to boot into Admin or wait at the ctrl+alt+del screen (it does the latter), and this action clears the registry information I just merged. Does anyone have an idea for a workaround? Ideally, when the task sequence completes the workstation is left in the logged-in state using the autologon registry information. Thank you -Brian
  9. I had a request from a previous post to share how we are changing the computer description during OSD. We currently use this to have our techs enter in the location of the computer to help with automating our inventory. Also, if anyone has a better way of doing this please feel free to contribute. Also, in our environment the description does not filter back to AD it only remains local to the machine but YMMV as I haven't looked too far into that. The description still filters back in through a custom report so it achieves everything that we need it to. 1. Create a computer description TS variable 2. Include the following script as part of one your packages and execute it sometime before your OS install (we include all of our scripts in the MDT Toolkit package) TSComputerDescPrompt.vbs Dim oTaskSequence, strComputerDesc Set oTaskSequence = CreateObject ("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment") ' The wscript.echo commands are logged in SMSTS.log for troubleshooting. ' They are not displayed to the end user. sComputerDesc = InputBox ("Enter desired computer description." &VbCrLf & VbCrLf & "X Domain - Computer location example: BUILDING ROOM #" &VbCrLf &VbCrLf & "Domain - Tag Number example: 10-0454 or 106183","Computer Description",,,30) oTaskSequence("OSDComputerDesc") = sComputerDesc wscript.echo "Set Task Sequence variable OSDComputerDesc to: " & strComputerDesc 3. Execute this final script with another task sometime after the OS install, we do it right after. TSComputerDesc.vbs Dim objShell Dim oTaskSequence, strComputerDesc Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.shell") Set oTaskSequence = CreateObject ("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment") ' The wscript.echo commands are logged in SMSTS.log for troubleshooting. ' They are not displayed to the end user. strComputerDesc = oTaskSequence("OSDComputerDesc") objShell.run "reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters /v srvcomment /d " & strComputerDesc & " /f" wscript.echo "Computer Description changed to: " & strComputerDesc

  11. I'm trying to deploy a Win7 by PXE as a new installation (no capturing, no wim). I've copied the content of the win7's DVD onto my distribution point, then added it on "Operating System Installers" (as a folder). I added the sources\install.wim on "Operating System Images". I made many tasks to test this but even if I used various types of configs, I have the Error code 0x80070002. I know that I've got something wrong, my first question is " does SCCM 2012 " support .iso files directly or I must go for .wim I'll be thankful for your answers.
  12. Hi guys, Got SCCM 2012 with MDT 2012 U1 on a single server. Never had SCCM before and have extended the schema. Server OS is Win 2012 running in VMWare 5.1. Doing OSD's fine, and application deployments via the software catalogue is working without a problem. All good. However when performing an OSD, after installing the SCCM client I have application installs. Regardless of what application I use it fails with error 0x00000032. Nothing really in SMSTS however LocationServices.log does have the following: A Fallback Status Point has not been specified. Message with STATEID='500' will not be sent. Processing pending site assignment. Executing Task LSSiteRoleCycleTask Failed to execute LSExecuteTask Checked the Systems Management container and the relevant objects appears to be listed fine. Boundaries appear to be setup without problems and OSD application deployments in the Build & Capture also work okay. Applications are enabled for deployment in TS as well as manually / Software Catalogue. Have inserted SMSMP=kflbrsccm01.domain.corp as installation parameter for the agent install, and also set the TS to reboot after it's installed (just before the application installs part of the TS) but no joy - same problem. Looks like it knows where to go to talk to the MP (KFLBRSCCM01). I'm assuming it's using registry as it's gathered after deployment of the SCCM client which has the SMSMP parameter....? Otherwise christ knows where it's geting it from as it should be published in AD fine. Again - nothing obviously in SMSTS, just appears to be problems in the LocationServices but I can't decipher what "LSIsSiteCompatible : Failed to get Site Version from all directories" means!!! Any help appreciated. Thanks - Steve
  13. Hi All, As I’m new to this forum I would like to apologize in advance if I’m posting this in the wrong thread. The challenge we have is that we need a design for OSD (Win7) with SCCM 2012 SP1. Actually we need our first “Green Field” SCCM 2012 SP1 implementation. Functionally we need a way to have OSD over 2 main sites (+500 clients each) and 40+ smaller sites worldwide. The system we have at this moment was custom build a while back in time. But what we can do wright now is deploy unattended OS installs on every site thru a self-build “distribution point” (Windows XP) which works with a 3COM PXE service. With SCCM 2012 it’s possible to have a Windows 7 Distribution Point however it’s not possible to have PXE enabled so for that the OSD is a bit of a challenge? Is there a way for us to have a Windows 7 DP and also be able to do OSD? If not is the only way to go to have a server on each site to have OSD possible. The bandwidth to most of the small sites is probably not large enough to have a remote DP push an OS. This forum/website is an absolute winner for SCCM lovers. Thanks in advance.
  14. Good day! I have a small problem but I am sure its just because I am still learning about OSD and Task Sequence. Here is the issue: I have an HP NC6400 orginally built for XP but have worked on Windows 7 (Well until it became time to re-image) I have been able to find most of the missing drivers and test that they worked and cleared any errors out of device manager. The only one I cant seem to find it ATI-Mobility Radeon X1300, how ever I was able to install it just by right clicking and updating the driver then rebooting. Since my goal is to automate as much of the OSD process as possible I would like to have this step performed in task sequnce (if possible). Is it possible to script this process or are any other options? Thanks in advance, Phil
  15. I've followed the instructions in this forum for setting up the Build and Capture OSD Task Sequence for SCCM 2012 SP1. However, the task sequence seems to end at the Windows login screen, without the Administrator user enabled, the capture operation doesn't complete, and the .wim file isn't in the save location. I've attached the smsts.log file. Additionally, I'm trying to capture from physical media and a physical machine, not PXE and not a VM. Can anyone help and see anything that might help me out? smsts.log

  17. I was wondering if SCCM 2007 had the capability to assign an OSD server to a specific subnet or range of IP addresses. I work in a school district managing about 35,000 computers and we currently have 3 OSD servers. We will be adding more soon. I already have 2 of those servers at other campuses. We have set our DHCP scope to point to their respective servers when PXE booting but when the OS Image is being applied, it seems to go to any server available. Any thoughts on how we can manage this?
  18. Hello I have an OSD task sequence, there are around 20 applications that install along with the OS Some are MSI, some are vbscript wappers I normally have all the content download locally but i want to try and run the content from the DP(much faster). my problem is the vbscript wrappers, they dont work from a UNC path. Now in the program for each app you can set the drive mode to "requires a drive letter" which works when you deploy the application through a normal advert. But doesn't work when i do it as part of the TS which is "accessing content directly from the dp" It just maps the drive, in the log it looks like its running the script but just hangs till it times out Any advice please
  19. Hi, I'm having a problem with applying drivers to my PowerEdge M600/610 And 620. I have made a package with drivers, sent it to the DP's and added the packed to the task sequence. The problem: The network drivers won't install during OSD. But when i put the drivers on a USB stick and install them manually ( Computer --> Properties --> DeviceManager) It Works. so it's no problem with the driver it self i guess? We are using SCCM 2012 SP1. Anyone seen a similar problem ?
  20. I am currenty replacing SCCM 2007 with SCCM 2012. Because of that, I have two fully working environments. Performing a new OSD with a machine directly from the factory is easy in SCCM2012: I simply import the compuer, with it's desired hostname, and the MAC adress of the machine, and point towards a specific device collection, allowing the task sequence to run. (I do not use unknown computer support in the 2012 enviroment, but we did in the previous 2007 environment). Performing OSD that way, works like a charm! I can even deploy the SCCM 2012 agent to a SCCM 2007 machine, making it communicating fully, then making the system a member of the very same osd-collection, in that way triggering the OSD via PXE or from Windows in the Software Center. I'm using Option 66 and 67 in my DHCP, on specific scopes. Recently, I've been trying to educate my collegues, in how to use the SCCM 2012 console. A collegue of mine simply asked: "what's the easiest way to reinstall a computer, that is currently in the SCCM 2007 system?" Well, as I have the "Active Directory System Discovery" discovery method enabled, I can actually see the objects from our AD under devices in SCCM 2012. Deploying the SCCM 2012 agent to one of those object would work, and then making it a member of the collection. But that's a bit unnecessary, right? So, I just tried to rightclick on the object, which currently says Client=No (as the machine is a member of the sccm 2007, or none at all), choose "add selected items" -> "add selected items to existing device collection", choosing my osd-collection. Seems legit? Trying to PXE a machine gives me the following: "CLIENT MAC ADDR: BLABLABLA GUID: BLABLABLA CLIENT IP: 172.X.X.X MASK: 255.255.255.0 DHCP IP: 172.X.X.X GATEWAY IP: 172.X.X.X Downloaded WDSNBP... Architecture: x64 WDSNBP started using DHCP Referral. Contacting Server: MY SCCM WITH WDS (gateway: 172.x.x.x)... No responsde from Windows Deployment Services server. Launching pxeboot.com... Press F12 for network service boot." When pressing F12 I get this: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next". 3. Click "Repair your computer". If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000f Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data." Any thoughts on this? Seem like doing a re-OSD the easy way, is an impossible way. Thanks Johan
  21. Hello, I am having a problem with PXE booting the Dell Latitude E6410 and E4310 laptops from SCCM, and I wanted to see if anyone has seen a similar problem before. Our SCCM is setup with 1 primary server and 2 secondary servers. The laptops will image fine from the primary and 1 of the secondaries. The site that has the problems gives this error message when trying to PXE boot those 2 models: PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received. PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. I know that the PXE-E51 error usually means that the computer is not getting an IP address, but it works when imaging other Dell models. I have already tried creating a new task sequence and advertisement. I removed WDS and the PXE service point, and set them up again. I deleted the boot images from distribution point, and pushed them back down to the regular distribution point, and the SMSPXEIMAGES$ distribution point. At this point, I am all out of ideas of what else I can try. Thank you for your help.
  22. I am strugging to get OSD to work from PXE after the processes suddently stopped working for all of your hardware models. What occurs is after PXE booting, the initial download of the .wim is completed and Windows PE briefly loads. Shortly after loading Network Connections, the system reboots. To identify/resolve the issue the following steps have been completed: F8 before the reboot occurs shows the computer is not getting an IP The x86 boot image in SCCM appears to have gotten corrupted as we were unable to add new drivers (although the existing drivers always worked before this issues started) Restored the default boot image from \\server\SMS_DE1\OSD\boot\i386\boot.wim Added "all" drivers categorized as NET & HDC (i know this is not necessary but wanted to ensure correct driver was included) Distributed to all DP's Uninstalled/Installed Windows AIK 2.0 Deleted all drivers from SCCM and reimported along with creating new Driver Packages Issue occuring for all computer models SCCM server reboot I have attached smsts.log files showing the error. When viewing properties of the x86 Boot Image, all of the required drivers are listed and the Content Status is showing a current timestamp signaling the DP's should have the correct file version. There may be some steps I did not include in this post so just let me know what else you need to help identify the issue. Thank you ALL for your help as I am quite frustrated with this issue and am open to suggestions. smsts.log
  23. Hi all! First post so I apologise if I miss important stuff! I am having an issue with my deployment of Windows 7 (this has previously worked correctly, although I haven't used it in a couple of months, I am now trying to set it all up for mass deployment). I'll start with a bit of background, and what I have done so far to try and correct this issue: Server is Windows Server Standard 2008 R2. SCCM 2007 R3. Issue first manifested as task sequence freezing at "Downloading Updates 0% Complete" and not progressing any further. After some google-fu I noticed there was a hotfix I had not yet applied (KB2509007), although there was one hotfix that WAS applied (KB977384). Went through steps to add the new hotfix, installed to server and added to task sequence properties, my ConfigMgr installation properties now reads: Next install of task sequence, I actually get an error (0x80004005) at the same point it was previously freezing at 0%. The new patch is installing correctly and SCCM client version is now: 4.00.6487.2188 Decided ro re-capture a reference machine. New capture is sysprepped and tested, new image without updates being applied in the TS works correctly. Further google-fu suggests this could be permissions, I check (and re-flood) permissions on updates DIR and Share, they were (but now definitely ARE) correct. Task sequence still fails. Another suggestion was to remove the KMS code from task sequence, tried this but TS still fails. Checked boundaries, but they are the same as they have always been (only one, AD site). Tried one last suggestion which was adding a reboot event before the updates event. Tried this, reboot occurs as expected, TS still fails as before when attempting updates. Here is an excerpt from the smsts.log on a machine after the TS fails: Set a local default variable SMSInstallUpdateTarget TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Set a global environment variable _SMSTSLogPath=C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Expand a string: TSInstallSWUpdate.exe /target:%SMSInstallUpdateTarget% TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Expand a string: TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Command line for extension .exe is "%1" %* TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Set command line: TSInstallSWUpdate.exe /target:%SMSInstallUpdateTarget% TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) Start executing the command line: TSInstallSWUpdate.exe /target:%SMSInstallUpdateTarget% TSManager 09/01/2013 16:47:06 252 (0x00FC) !--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------! 24. Hello All: I am new to SCCM, and would request some assistance in pushing out the SEP client with the O/S. I am able to deploy the Windows 7 O/S with SCCM2012 task sequnce just fine, but the SEP Client ( with an already used sylink file) package is not being installed. I have placed this package at different levels in the task sequence, but no luck. I have created the SEP client package from the definition (MSI) and also the .exe, but neither worked. Can someone please provide a detailed solution, so that I can successfully install the SEP client on the newly deployed OS. Thanks!!
  25. Hi All First of all apology for noobish questions but I'm a realy beginner. I've read most of the articles here about OSD and I feel that more I read, the less I understand. I've 10 different types of hardwared (PCs HP, Dell, Lenovo) in my lab. I've tried to build a "the golden image" for my PCs using task sequence form SCCM 2007 R3. I'm really confused because I don't really understand what steps should I take to do that. As I understood first step is to build reference machine based on unattended.xml file I gather all required drivers and impored them into SCCM database (I have them in Drives section and also creates Drivers Pacages) My question is when shoudl I apply those drivers? I tried to use Auto Apply Drives/Packages task (I'm getting error 0x0000032 during this task) after Setup windows and ConfMrg task , also tried to use Apply Device Drivers task Could anyone please explain it to me steps to prepare OSC task sequence for different types of hardware or at least send me an example task sequece (xml) Regards Greg
