  1. Hello, Our old image that we created would join the computer to the domain at the end of the OSD task sequence. With our new image it does not join itself and there do not appear to be any noticable logs entries that have anything to do with adding to the domain in the 'C:\Windows\syswow64\ccm\logs' folder. We use MDT 2010 with the UDI Wizard. The old image was a 64 bit Windows 7. The new image is a 64 bit SP1 Windows 7. The only real difference would be the added Windows updates included within SP1. To build the image we used the Build and Capture process described on this website. The only difference is we broke the build and capture into two steps so that we could apply additional windows updates We found a post that talked about checking the C:\Windows\debug\netlogon.log. lpMachineAccountOU: (NULL) is something that we noticed was different. The old image had the full domain ou in this entry. The only thing we did in the task sequence was to change the step Apply Operating System Image to the new image. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Shawn
  2. Hi All, We have configured a "base applications" task sequence for our environment. The taks sequence runs successfully until the end but when we check on our client machines (3 machines) nothing is installed or nothing registered in add/remove programs. Steps we have followed to troubleshoot: 1. Some of our packages have dependecies ( ie: uninstall previous before running the main install program) - SCCM has reported issues with packages that have dependencies. 2. We have deployed each application on its own and it installs perfectly fine. 3. The task sequence runs extremely fast even though we loaded more than 10 applications. We timed the duration and it finished the full TS in under a minute. What could be causing our Task Sequence applications not to install? Looking forwad to hearing from you.
  3. Hi there. Looking for some advise regarding Windows 7 deployment & PXE Booting. Background - we are using sccm 2007 & mdt 2010, and are currently in the middle of a project to migrate our OS to Windows 7. We have a server (sccmbr01) which has been added as an sccm site-system, which contains the OS images & runs the WDS role; within sccm this is configured as a PXE Service Point. The server had been happily sitting on its own subnet, happily deploying OS images, and providing both DHCP & PXE services. However, Management have now, in their wisdom, decided to move this server onto the main ip subnet where our general server population are located. This still worked ok, as long as sccmbr01 was providing dhcp service, with the scope set to a single subnet unused by any other devices. Our problem at the moment is that we are looking to extend the OSD service - including PXE boot - throughout the organisation, so that we can perform "in situ" rebuilds & refreshes, etc. (estate - approx 5000 pcs, approx 200 subnets, many geographic locations etc). The Comms team want to configure this so that DHCP for PXE boot/OSD is provided by our regular domain DHCP servers - their argument is that if we extend the DHCP scopes provided by sccmbr01, the addresses will be used up by the general PC population, i.e., this will become just another regular DHCP server on the WAN. Comms have configured "ip helper" on the routers, etc; however, after several attempts, using different permutations, we have not been able to successfulyl PXE boot client. When sccmbr01 had dhcp active, the files/paths displayed after F12 network boot were as follows, in order of appearance \smsboot\x64\pxeboot.com \smsboot\boot.sdi \smsimages\smspkg\pr10022b\winpe.pr10022b.wim We have tried to configure the DHCP servers to point to the above files, without success. \smsboot\x64\pxeboot.com - launches "Windows Boot Manager" console, with the following error - "file - \bbot\bcd status - 0xc000000f info - an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data" \smsboot\boot.sdi - displays error "too big to fit in memory" \smsimages\smspkg\pr10022b\winpe.pr10022b.wim - displays TFTP error When we leave DHCP unconfigured, using only IP Helper (this seems to be the recommended method), an error 53 (boot file not found) is displayed. Do you have any suggestions what we could try next, or something we may be missing? I found this thread which seems to be quite similar: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/890-bootbcd-error/ Any suggestions would be gratefully sppreciated. Regards Stan
  4. Hi There, My organization is looking at implementing a monitoring tool like this one: System Center Webtop Dashboard - www.systemcenterwebtop.com Has anyone tested it or successfully monitored SCCM 2007 or 2012 for that matter? I know you're probably thinking why not use SCOM - Well all i can say is: "Austerity measures". I'd like to hear your views. Thank you.
  5. So I am trying to deploy Windows 7 with BitLocker to a laptop. I'm following the steps in http://www.windows-n...oyments-part-5/. I cannot for the life of me get this thing to encrypt the hard drive. It runs through everything and at the end after the final reboot I get the following message: No matter which I choose I end up with an unencrypted drive. Attached is my bitlocker log. Says it completed successfully. I went into the control panel and manually turned on BitLocker. I received the message above however when i presses F10 it went through and asked me some questions. Where to save recovery key etc, and then started the encryption. Not sure why SCCM can't seem to get the encryption going. Any insight would be much appreciated. bitlocker.txt
  6. Hi, We are currently migrating XP machines to Windows 7 Enterprise and would like to know if its possible to query the SCCM DB during OSD to install applications that are advertised to the machine? to ensure that after imaging all required software are installed instead of waiting. Regards, E'John
  7. Hello, I've been driving myself crazy with this issue, and not to mention the Admin has been driving me crazy as well. The issue is that when she tries to distribute software from a remote console on her desktop connected to the primary server, she gets an error right before she completes the wizard. Error: One or more errors occurred result may be incomplete when you hit details it reads failure to delete management object I have ultimate rights over the hierarchy and have tried recreating this error with no avail. I believe that the issue is permissions but i have validated that all the groups are nested correctly and have found no errors really eluding to such. The only reason i believe it may be permissions is that i am able to distribute the software but no one at the site is able to. Can on anyone please help me out with this or at least point me in the correct direction?
  8. Hello everyone, Here is my situation. I have a Windows XP in DOM A and SCCM A on which I am advertising a task sequence to deploy W7 and join DOM B with SCCM B. The migration/deployment scenario works great, no problem on that. My first steps that are done online (not in WinPE) are the following on the XP machine: -Backup of user settings with USMT -Backup of user data with Robocopy -Change the name of the computer locally/AD with a vbscript that also set the OSDComputerName variable with the new value -Restart on Windows (to validate the renaming) -Restart in WinPE and go on with the classic deployment (Format, dl of the .wim ...) The thing is that everytime, once the machine is in the new AD and SCCM it still has its old computername. Even though the script changed successfully the name of the computer in the AD and locally of the XP. So I am wondering if this is possible to set the OSDComputerName out of WinPE? And if yes am I doing it right? Here is the part of my script where I set the variable: dim env SET env = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment") env("OSDComputerName") = NewComputerName Where the variable NewComputerName is a variable set before with the new computer name (and it works as it changes the value in the AD). The script is run with an account that as domain admin privileges in DOM A and full access on a DFS in DOM B where the script and a csv file containing all the new values are stored. So, what is wrong?? THank you a lot, I have been trying to fix this for days !!
  9. Hi, Can someone please help me with a query to find a file in a particular location. thank you
  10. Hi, Could someone please help me better understand how the compliance report actually determines which machines are compliant and not compliant. i have a sccm 2007 r3 wsus and mdt 2010 integration environment.... we have around 75% machines compliant and around 20% machines none compliant and the rest unknown. ive gone through the logs of machines and machines are receiving windows updates but i cannot workout what actually determines machine from being compliant and not compliant.... i need to have the compliance above 90% to keep the managers happy. any help would be appreciated. thank you
  11. Hi All, I am trying to deploy my captured Win7 image to a VM as a test before I try it on a real PC. My setup is as follows: Main SCCM server: Win 2008 R2, SCCM 2007 SP2 R3; Roles: Comp Svr, MP, DMP, DP, RP, SLP, Site server and system SCCM PXE Server: Win 2008 R2; Roles: Comp Svr, PXE SP, SMP, and Site system A Dist Server: Win 2008 R2; Roles: DP, Site system Soft Update Server: Win 2008 R2; Roles: Comp Svr, FSP, SLP, SUP, site system There are no errors in the system status. The PXE point worked fine when I did the image capture from a VM. That VM will still show that the PXE is interfacing but decline to PXE boot because of no advertisement. The smspxe.log shows that it was contacted but it declined a PXE boot due to no advertisement. When I try the deploy I get PXE-E53: No boot filename received. I have gone through every trouble shooting tip I can find and still nothing. The wierd thing is that there is no entries at all in the smspxe.log except the normal testing stuff. I even created a second VM and brought it into the deployment collection and it did the same thing. I am ready to pull my hair out...what little I have left. Can anyone help? Jeff
  12. I have a situation that I am unable to find any info on the web or any errors in my logs. I have a TS that when I utilize a PC name that is existing in AD it works flawlessly. But when I use a PC name in my UDI that is not in AD, the TS will finish but the PC will not be a member of the domain. Any ideas on where to look or start? Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Hi I was wondering if someone can tell me what I have missed. We are trying to allow our home user base to connect to our SCCM environment in order to accomplish the following: Asset Inventory Patch Management Application Deployment Remote Control for Customer Support As we do not have PKI servers in our environment Native mode is not really an option for us. We are using a 2 factor authentication Citrix VPN solution. The user is both authenticated to the Domain as well as a Key Fob. From the documentation I have been able to get my hands on we have arranged for the following ports to be opened Client Requests (Client to Software Update Point) TCP Port 80 TCP Port 443 63000-64000 UDP (Client to DP) TCP Port 8350 & 8351 to WSUS server Remote Control TCP port 2701 TCP port 2702 TCP port 135 Configuration manager Console to Client Remote Control UDP 2701 TCP 2701 UDP 2702 TCP 2702 TCP 135 TCP 3389 From this we are able to push an application to a test machine but we have not been able to get SCCM to work for Patch management or remote desktop sharing (remote Tools in SCCM Console). I understand that full remote control will not work as it logs the existing user off the machine and tries to get you to log in which disconnects the machine from the VPN connection. We are able to see and ping the machine through the SCCM console. We are unable to remotely trigger a Machine Policy Eval. What have I missed? Is anyone aware of any documents that may help me better understand the process and it's requirements Thanks in advance for any assistance X
  14. Hi. Im about to setup a SCCM for a customer who has been migrated to a new domain. We have access to One small OU with all the customers objects, computers, users, groups, distributions lists and so on. What do i need to ask the Domain Admin to configure before or after i have installed SCCM? Do i need to have some Domain Rights? I know abit of whats demanded but would like to hear what all you guys have to say. Thanks.
  15. I have been working with SCCM 2007 for about a year now. I have been asked to create a TS that will reboot the system, then log back in and run a task on the PC. I have created TS in the past that do this, but these TS were created from the installed templates from the MDT. I have looked and tore apart my existing TS that do this, but I am unable to recreate one from scratch. Any ideas on how to have a TS reboot the system and then log in with our SCCM service account to perform a task?
  16. Hello all i have setup SCCM 2007 r3 in my Lab enviroment. I can get the software Deployment Working. 17. Hello! I'm currently attempting to deploy Windows 7 and Office 2010 in the same task sequence. In my current TS, Windows 7 installs correctly, but Office 2010 does not. The error I get in smsts.log is that the step (Install Software) must be running in full OS. However, I tell the PC to reboot before it attempts to run this package - and to restart into the default operating system (not Windows PE). Is there some setting I've missed somewhere? 18. Hey, First post here, I have had a look through the forums and cant see the issue we're having. Basically we were using SCCM 2007 R2 happily using boot media to image our machines one at a time, after some time we decided to enable PXE booting and imaging of "All Unknown Computers". It seems that since enabling this we're having localisation issues, namely that the location of the machine is being set to United States, along with keyboard layout being set to en-US. I have checked all settings within our Task Sequence and these seem ok. I have also checked our Unattended.xml in Windows System Image Manager and ensured all the settings there are set to en-GB. Despite all of these settings being correct the keyboard layout still seems to be en-US on all computers we image/re-image. Any advice in this issue would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Colemanmaak

  20. Hello all, I'm using SCCM 2007 SP2 to do some test deploying of Windows XP SP1a to a Dell SX270 desktop machine. I've successefully deployed this package (minus the driver which I'll discuss in a minute) to a vmware virtual machine. For the, the package deploys and it does finish the installation of XP and seems to get to the point of bringing up the logon screen for windows, but it goes to blue screen with the mouse icon there that you can move around, but it doesn't respond to any keyboard pressing. I can restart the machine and it does come back up to the windows login screen, but it has not been added to the domain like the package was supposed to do. I am almost 100% positive that it has to do with the fact that XP SP1a does not have a compatibly network driver for the network card in the SX270 machine. In fact there is no network adapter under network connections when logging into XP. I've tried incorporating the driver by importing it into the SCCM 2007 driver library and also added it to the task sequence as a software package install, but still ending up with the same result. How do I get the driver to install in time for windows to use it when it needs during the installation? I would also like the package to go ahead and install XP SP3 while it's doing the deploy if you wouldn't mind giving advice on that as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  21. Hello All, I am hoping you can point me in the right direction with a complicated Site Assignment configuration. I am deploying SCCM 2007 R3 across 3 forests that have a two way transistive trust between each. As per MS best supported practice, I will have a primary site for each forest, reporting up to a central site for Administration/Reporting. As per: Central | ----------------------------------- | | | PS1 PS2 PS3 This is fairly straght forward if each forest has dedicated subnets. (e.g. Forest1:Site 1, 192.168.0/24, Forest2:Site1, 192.168.1/24), Each client would sit within their own subnet and automatically assign to the relevant Primary site. The issue I have is one subnet may have clients from all three forests. So I may have a client in Forest 1 that assigns itself to another primary site because of its IP address. What are the implications of this? My main concern is distribution point and policy gathering. Will I need to manually assign the clients? Thanks Paul
  22. Has anyone had any experience deploying an “all-in-one” print driver package with SCCM? Our idea is to remove the need for Admin credentials when pulling down the driver from the print server. I am assuming SCCM has this capability I am just unsure how to deploy. (i.e. Custom MSI, just deploy INF files etc.) Any suggestions?
  23. Hi I have an issue with getting the reporting to work in SCCM 2007, over one week ago, the PXE Server and the reporting stopped working. Following the threads here I got the PXE working again, but I still have issues with the reporting part. When it opens a webpage it generates the following error (got a different error before, now i get this): HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. Remove reporting point 2. Remove IIS role 3. Remove Windows Process activation Service (Had issues reinstalling the IIS role) 4. Do a full reinstallation of .net framework 3.5 SP1, 4 Client profile and 4 Extended 5. Add the ISS role (yes ASP is installed on it) 6. Add the reporting point back SMSReportingInstall.log says the following: Begin Install CMDLINE=/s /m=C:\PROGRA~1\MIF083~1\bin\i386\rep.val /deinstall Error running smswwwroot.vbs script Begin Install CMDLINE=/s /m=C:\PROGRA~1\MIF083~1\bin\i386\rep.val Error running smswwwroot.vbs script Rsetup.log says the following: ========================================== Initialize variables. 24. Hello guys, This request is kind of special but this is due to the migration we are doing. In fact we are in an environment where two Active Directory trees are presents, one with SCCM 2007 the other with SCCM 2012. The thing is during the migration, the workstation has to change its domain to the one with SCCM 2012. However, my problem is that I need to boot in Windows PE from the SCCM 2007, then download the WIM image and the SCCM client from the SCCM 2012. Is there a way to do that? I think I basically need a script to change "the environment" during the Task Sequence. Thanks a lot If I wasn't clear enough, please do feel free to ask me questions.
  25. Hi, I have a working Windows 7 x64 deployment (via SCCM 2007 R3) using the "Access content directly from a distribution point when needed by the running task sequence" option on the advertisement. We have a captured Windows 7 x64 image, and are scripting our software installs (office 2010, acrobat x, dms, etc) after the wim file is laid down. Since some of the computers are laptops and are used while away from the office, there are times when a user may need to reinstall an application offline (e.g. VPN has stopped working and needs to be reinstalled). I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to script it so that all (or ones that are deemed necessary) software packages used during the OSD phase are copied to a pre-determined directory for later use? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
