  1. Hello, I have set up a new lab enviroment for SCCM 2012 RTM/Eval. Initial set up process went fine, set up boundaries and basic roles such as Management point, reporting services point, distribution point and so on. No errors nor warnings on console site status so far. While deploying (using group policy, ccmsetup.msi) clients for few (Windows XPsp3 and 7 Sp1) virtual workstations, Client seems to be installed ( I can see Software Center and Configuration Management applet at the control panel). Also I have set up a new application "Firefox 12" and deployed it using "required"/"as soon as possible" for a new collection where both workstations are set with static rule. However Firefox 12 Won't install. While reading logs I found some entries stating "duplicate execution request for Client upgrade program". How to resolve this one? With thanks, Tuomas.
  2. Hello, I recently setup SCCM 2012 using the Unified installer from Microsoft. I have a simple network with 1 DC and a few servers & workstations, all within the 10.0.30.0/24 subnet. All servers are Windows 2008 R2, and workstations are a mix of WinXP, 7, and 8. I have been able to get the client to install on 4 of the machines on my network - all are servers running Windows Server 2008 R2. However, when I attempt to push the client to my remaining Windows Server 2008 R2 or Win XP, Win7, or Win8 boxesit fails. When I take a look at the C:\Windows\CCMSETUP\ccmsetup.log files the only thing I can find that is interesting is as follows: <![LOG[site version '5.00.7711.0000' is compatible. Client deployment will continue.]LOG]!><time="00:35:05.552+240" date="05-21-2012" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="1" thread="232" file="ccmsetup.cpp:289"> <![LOG[Couldn't verify 'C:\Windows\ccmsetup\Silverlight.exe' authenticode signature. I am specifically looking at a Win7 box so I thought that BITS shouldn't be giving me an issue. I can seem to find anything relevant online when searching for "CcmSetup failed with error code 0x80004005"
  3. This is mostly for people familiar with MDT scripting/integration... I've been working on this non-stop today trying all sorts of methods to try and accomplish a prompt for computer name at a specific point...I'm certain that it can be done, but I'm losing hope! Here's the scenario...I'm using Maik Koster's web service (v7.3), as well as his custom boot image for OSD, with MDT 2012 integration. With the custom boot image, the pre-execution mediahook runs and performs a series of webservice calls to populate a wizard that allows for TS selection. After the selection is made, it adds the computer to the appropriate collection with the OSD TS and off you go! This works GREAT for known computers...unknown computers are a little different. I can boot unknown computers to the custom boot wizard, and they get added to whichever collection and are added to the server at the same time. HERE IS THE ODDITY: the computers get added with their MAC address as the computer name, as opposed to MININT-###### I've added a successful check in the pre-execution hook to test if the computer is known or not...if it is unknown, then a simple prompt comes up and we can put in the computer name. THE PROBLEM is that I have NO IDEA what variable I'm supposed to set with the input. The pre-execution hook calls ZTIGather and ZTIUtlity...I've tried setting oEnvironment.Item("OSDComputerName")/("HostName") to the input gathered previously...but it didn't change anything (the webservice call is SUPPOSED to use OSDComputerName as the name)...I'm honestly stumped as to what variable I need to set (since it is using the MAC address for the name), OR would be more viable to try and set a (environmental?) variable that the SCCM_Bootstrap.ini/Customsettings.ini uses? For instance the existing webservice call in the ini file looks like this: ----------------------------------------- [AddComputerToCollection] WebService=http://YourWebServer/Deployment/SCCM.asmx/AddComputerToCollection Parameters=MACAddress,UUID,CollectionID,ComputerName MACAddress=macAddress UUID=UUID CollectionID=collectionID ComputerName=Computername <-- THIS IS NOT POPULATED FOR SOME REASON ------------------------------------------ would it be possible to do something such as: ------------------------------------------- MyNewCustomVariable=%SetByScript% [AddComputerToCollection] WebService=http://YourWebServer/Deployment/SCCM.asmx/AddComputerToCollection Parameters=MACAddress,UUID,CollectionID,ComputerName MACAddress=macAddress UUID=UUID CollectionID=collectionID MyNewCustomVariable=Computername -------------------------------------------- I guess that it might be possible that SCCM is inserting the MAC address to use as the computer name since/if it isn't being provided...but that thought just occurred to me, and I haven't had a chance to look into that possibility. This is all very new to me, as I'm not super familiar with the workings of MDT scripting/customizations. When I get back to work in the morning, I'm going to go through the logs again and see if/where I missed the section that is using the MAC address for the computer name. Hopefully, if I can get this working, then I'll have a very handy method for imaging bare metal workstations with a computer name prompt tied in
  4. I was wondering if anyone else is using a VMware environment for SCCM 2012. I have setup my Primary site server but I was wondering about my DP's should they be VM's as well or should they be physical? Thanks, Jason
  5. I did the following: 1. import the images and files from my SCCM 2012 RC2 server. All were manually imported (Copied the files, and added them manually) 2. set the boot images up but did not deploy them 3. added the pxe role to the server 4. deployed the pxe boot images 5. setup the OS installer for windows 7 6. set up the task list for windows 7 7. set up the image for windows 7 (captured using RC2) 8. set up a collection target 9 deployed the task sequence to the collection 10. added a VM with static mac to the collection 11. tried to pxe boot The VM is not getting DHCP on two subnets it should be getting -- in theory i should be getting another error than it timing out like its not on a network at all. VM is on a Hyper-V 2008 R2 Host. distmgr.log
  6. 7. Hello all, I'm building a UDI task sequence in SCCM 2012 + MDT 2012 installing Win 7 x64. Everything is working fine except one thing. I have a number of software applications to be available to the users as part of UDI Wizard. When running TS, after selecting a few of applications only the first one is installed and the rest fails with error 1618 which AFAIK translates to "another installation is in progress". I have of course checked all packages and they do install fine when running from Software Center. UDI task sequence uses a step install multiple packages. I tried googling it but no luck so far, so i hope to get some help from more experienced colleagues here. Best regards, Adam
  8. First i'd like to say this site has been amazing in helping us test and rollout SCCM to the company. Keep up the good work! Next, I'm am trying to create a zero touch base image using a standard Build and Capture task sequence. I've added the following items. Install Application: Adobe Acrobat X Adobe Flash Player Install Package: Microsoft Office 2010 Java I have the packages and applications enabled to install via task sequence although the only thing that installs is Office and the others fail. If I uncheck the box to skip any failed installed I get the error message 0x80004005. Additionally, this is a machine that is an "Unknown" but that collection is targeted with PXE boots and boots up fine. when I ignore errors the machine even captures(although missing most of the software) Any suggestions? Which logs can I look in? Thanks!
  9. Question, so during my RC1 and RC2 labs I created a captured WIM file and I was wondering if I could copy that file (from my lab) and import it into my production SCCM server. Will this be viable option or is it better to start fresh?
  10. I just recently implemented a SCCM 2012 RC server, and have built up a test environment for it. The clients are recieving update policies, but are not receiving notifications on available software items through the Software Center. They can go to the Application Catalog, where tey are able to see the available software, but are not able to submit a request, nor can they download and install the applications. I also noticed that they are unable to select the "I regularly use this computer to do my work" option from the "My devices" tab on the Catalog. All site components are in the green, and I have tried to check the logs, but I am unable to find anything that points to any issue. I am including screenshots of the 2 issues that I mentioned regarding the Application Catalog. We are a Windows 7 shop, and all machines are currently running IE8. The AD Schema has not been extended, since our senior systems admin is worried about any negative repurcussions that may cause. I am almost certain that this has to do with some settings in IIS, but I am too unfamiliar with it to go poking around. Any guidance would be more than appreciated.
  11. As SCCM 2012 is set to come out soon, we're in research mode for SCCM 2012 hierarchy installation. Our environment is as follows: All Windows OS Shop Clients: Run Windows XP, and will be upgraded to Windows 7 x64 Enterprise within 3 months Servers: Active Directory Windows 2008 R2 mode User count: 260 desktops (~30 laptops) Server count: ~60 (almost all of them are virtual running on VMWare ESX 4) Servers are located at our datacenter (spoke) and about twelve remote offices, this includes corporate ~90 users, (hubs). Based on our device/user count we've come up with two installation designs, and I'd like to hear your comments on both. 1. Single server installation - opting to move some system roles base on performance (if needed). 6 vCPUs - 64 GB Ram - ~1 TB storage Note: In the event that we notice poor performance, we intend to move some roles off this server (we would probably move DP, SUP, EPP and the SQL installation). I'd like to hear some comments about this approach. 2. Three server installation - a database server, a DP role server (SUP and EPP) and a primary site. Primary site server: 4 vCPU - 16 GB Ram SQL Server: 6 vCPU - 32 GB Ram Distribution Point: 4 vCPU - 16 GB Ram - additional storage I'd like to hear some comments on both approach, thanks for your time.

  13. I have been setting up SCCM 2012 in a lab environment and to be completely honest, I have no idea what I'm doing regarding the patching aspect. I took a beta 4 day in-class class and have my book, so I'm not totally running blind, but I'm still lost. I setup a site server named LAB-WSUS that had WSUS 3.0 SP2 installed and downloaded updates. Why does it appear my SCCM CAS is going directly out to Microsoft.com for updates? Shouldn't it be going to the WSUS server? Isn't that the point of the SUP site server? When I downloaded the patches, it asked me where to put the "package.". It just downloaded all of the patches onto the SCCM CAS server (per my direction). I setup a deployment package and chose to deploy to one of the device collections I have setup. I have no GPOs set to point those servers to the appropriate WSUS server, but why do they have to? It appears that my SCCM server is doing all the work. Thanks in advance!!!! Juice
  14. Hello together We have an issue in our LAB, when we try to import any driver into SCCM 2012 RC2 Console. It doesnt matter which driver we try to import, it always fail with following error: "An error occureed while importing the selected driver" I had a look into the SmsAdminUI.log and what I found there, seems a bit strange :[6, PID:5604][03/19/2012 15:34:30] :Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.WqlQueryEngine.WqlQueryException\r\nThe SMS Provider reported an error.\r\n at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.WqlQueryEngine.WqlResultObject.Put(ReportProgress progressReport) at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.WqlQueryEngine.WqlResultObject.Put() at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.AdminConsole.DesiredConfigurationManagement.ConsoleDcmConnection.Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.DesiredConfigurationManagement.IDcmStoreConnection.StoreNewItem(ConfigurationItem item) at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.DesiredConfigurationManagement.ConfigurationItem.Persist(Object existingStoreItem) at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.AdminConsole.Driver.ImportDriverWizardForm.PutDriverObject(SmsDialogData pageData, IResultObject selectedObject, DriverConfigurationItemInfo driverInfo, List`1 allDriversInfoToRefreshDP, Boolean& hasValidDriver, Boolean& hasErrorDriver, PropertyDataUpdateAction& updateAction)\r\nConfigMgr Error Object:instance of SMS_ExtendedStatus{ CauseInfo = ""; Description = "SQL command failed: if (object_id('tempdb..#sp_setupci_resultstr') IS NOT NULL) drop table #sp_setupci_resultstr;"; ErrorCode = 2168851714; File = "e:\\nts_sccm_release\\sms\\siteserver\\sdk_provider\\smsprov\\ssputility.cpp"; Line = 2105; ObjectInfo = "Please check SMS Provider log file for details of the SQL errors"; Operation = "PutInstance"; ParameterInfo = ""; ProviderName = "ExtnProv"; SQLMessage = "[24000][0][Microsoft][sql Server Native Client 10.0]Invalid cursor state"; SQLSeverity = 0; SQLStatus = 0; StatusCode = 2147749889;}; We use SCCM 2012 with only a Primary Site and SQL Server 2008 R2 SP 1 CU4. May somebody experienced the same problem? Thank you for your help Best wishes
  15. Hi, In SCCM 2012, we have a task sequence that installs package in the very end after setting up operating system. We have tried two approaches: 1. Using Install package step (the package has a program associated with it which executes the vb script eventually) 2. Using Run Command line step (in command line executing script and attach the package. The second approach executes fine but the first approach halts on executing the script (sometime it hangs there forever). A few times we have seen an error that it doesn't find the file specified (in smsts.log) Since the script is executed in secondapproach, there should not be any issue in script. Any help, suggestion is welcomed for first approach because that's how we want to install package as it works in SCCM 2007. FYI, this is on SCCM 2012 RC build. Thanks,
  16. Hi! Yesterday I tried to create a distribution point on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x86 machine because on SCCM 2007 we have about 110 small locations with a BDP. So we need this feature in 2012, too. I clicked through the wizard to add a new site system but on the Windows 7 machine nothing happens. The client is already installed and everything else works fine. I configured the site server and network access account as domain admin. The client push installation also works fine. What's wrong? On the Technet Library for SCCM 2012 I could'nt find any solution. Did anyone (or anyweb :-) tried this and got this working? Has the DP machine to have a x64 architecture? Thanks for help.
  17. Hello, I read a statement on the internet mentioning SCCM 2012 RTM Distribution Points will be able to push the SCCM client out. Our organisation is currently looking at changing secondry severs to distribution points with SCCM 2012, can anyone confirm if the above statement is true ? Best Regards, Alex.
  18. Hi Guys, I've got a very strange issue on Software / application deployment in SCCM 2012: I can successfully to distribute and deploy applications/packages to the system collection, and it works, any computer that belongs to the collection will install the software. I also successfully to distribute and deploy the applications/packages to the user collection, there is no any error reported. But the user who belongs to that collection will not install the software whatever is an application or a package. I know when the software deployed to the user collection, user will not able to see those software in software center, they need to click "Find additional applications from the Application Catalog", then see it in the web page, but that is the issue, when I click the link, it show me an error page, it says "Server Error in '/CMApplicationCatalog' Application" and "Some or all identity references could not be translated." The Stack Trace as below: Stack Trace: [identityNotMappedException: Some or all identity references could not be translated.] System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier.Translate(IdentityReferenceCollection sourceSids, Type targetType, Boolean forceSuccess) +450 System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier.Translate(Type targetType) +350 System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetName() +159 System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.get_Name() +42 Microsoft.ConfigurationManager.SoftwareCatalog.Website.WebControls.SilverlightLoader.BuildPortalSettings() +175 Microsoft.ConfigurationManager.SoftwareCatalog.Website.WebControls.SilverlightLoader.CreateChildControls() +85 System.Web.UI.Control.EnsureChildControls() +182 System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() +60 System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() +222 System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() +222 System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() +222 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +4185 I googled it, but can't find anything helpful, is anybody has the same situation before? Please help..... 19. Hei ho, I wonder if anyone can help me with this strange error. I have followed the the instructions here to a tee to install a test of SCCM 2012 but have hit a strange error - Config. Manager cannot connect to the site. And this has me perplexed as the account I am using has full domain rights to this test server, has full access to all files\folders, full access to SQL and was used to install SCCM itself. The only item I cannot confirm is point 4: been assigned to at least one role based admin security role. I am presuming that as the account was used to install in the system it should have access, but maybe I am wrong. The SQL Server 2008 has been patched to SP2 with CU7 and is running locally with all the correct edits to accomodate SCCM 2012 If anyone has any advise, I would appreciate it! Attached is a screen shot of the error message
  20. Hello guys, This request is kind of special but this is due to the migration we are doing. In fact we are in an environment where two Active Directory trees are presents, one with SCCM 2007 the other with SCCM 2012. The thing is during the migration, the workstation has to change its domain to the one with SCCM 2012. However, my problem is that I need to boot in Windows PE from the SCCM 2007, then download the WIM image and the SCCM client from the SCCM 2012. Is there a way to do that? I think I basically need a script to change "the environment" during the Task Sequence. Thanks a lot If I wasn't clear enough, please do feel free to ask me questions.
  21. I maybe being an idiot but like in SCCM 2007 I could apply the operating system from the distribution point instead of it download the entire image file then applying it. How do I just apply the image front he distribution point instead of downloading. I for see me being an idiot and the obvious being pointed out to me Thanks in advance like always Ross
  22. Can anyone give me a few tips on how to achieve this? I have an .exe file that I downloaded from DELL; I can use the -NOPAUSE parameter to pass to this file, to force a shutdown and to disable notifications. I created a package and I deployed it to a collection (as required) that queries all my devices with a BIOS less than 'x'. The collection query process works fine as it shows the only DELL machine that has a BIOS version less than 'x'; however, the package is sent to the computer, but it doesn't actually run. Any ideas on how to get this to work? Thanks!
  23. Hi All, I'm trying to do an OSD however when the machine im trying to do the deployment on as soon as the PC boots into the WinPE and when it gets to Starting Network section it reboots the PC once that's complete's. It doesn't seem to be seeing either of my Task Sequences nor is it prompting me for a password. Any ideas for what i can do to get this working?? Thanks, Brendan Thompson
  24. Hello everyone, I'm testing Out of Band feature of SCCM 2012. I have installed the proper site roles (Enrollment Point and Out of band service point); I completed all the pre-requesites as well, so all that has been taken care of. I was able to discover a machine with AMT (DELL Optiplex); the problem is that prior to using the 'discover' option; I had already made changes to AMT through the BIOS. So, in SCCM the AMT status for this computer shows 'detected', and when I right click on the device object, the only options under Manage OOB are: Discover AMT Status and Remove AMT Provisioning Data - all other options are grayed out. I went ahead and clicked on Remove AMT Provisioning Data on this object, but this didn't do anything - at least from what I can tell. I also, manually, cleared all the AMT setting from the BIOS on this computer (I don't know if this action messed things up with SCCM). How do I "Enable Automatic AMT Provisioning" on this device?
  25. I have setup SCCM 2012 in a test environment. I am having some problems installing the client on my test PC. When i deploy i get deployment successfully, and i see ccmsetup service being started, it copies some files to my test PC and then it just stops. I dont see any errors in the log. Please let me know if you have any idea as to what is wrong here. <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_GetNewPushMachines N'MVP'~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:05.917-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_SetPushRequestMachineStatus 2097152001, 1~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:05.935-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_GetPushRequestMachine 2097152001~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.058-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Successfully retrieved information for machine MVP-TEST-WIN7 from DB $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.083-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_GetPushRequestMachineIP 2097152001~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.084-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_GetPushRequestMachineResource 2097152001~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.096-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_GetPushMachineName 2097152001~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.114-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Received request: "2097152001" for machine name: "MVP-TEST-WIN7" on queue: "Incoming". $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.149-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Stored request "2097152001", machine name "MVP-TEST-WIN7", in queue "Processing". $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.151-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>Execute query exec sp_CP_SetPushRequestMachineStatus 2097152001, 1~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><09-14-2011 09:24:06.156-120><thread=3176 (0xC68)></P> <P>----- Started a new CCR processing thread.
