  3. Hi, I'm trying to deploy Windows 8.1 x64, but my task sequence fails with Error 80070032 – Failed to make volume bootable or The request is not supported. Background: I have two disks in my machine, im trying to deploy to my MSATA disk. I consider my MSATA disk as primary disk since it's faster than the sata and a bit smaller. The issue is that my Lenovo L430 is recognizing MSATA interface as DISK 1. So using the wizard in SCCM 2012 R2 to create an task sequence called "Install an existing image pack.", i setup an brand new task sequence. In the Format and Partition step i choose Disk Number 1. I save the task sequence and preform the necessary steps in order to make it available through PXE boot. Disks according to diskpart and bios - Disk 0 - SATA Disk 500gb - Disk 1 - MSATA Disk 120gb When I run the task sequence it fails with the error message given below. Error: System partition not set Volume C:\ is not on the boot disk and can not be made bootable. Failed to make volume C:\ bootable. Please ensure that you have set an active partition on the boot disk before installing the operating system. The request is not supported. (Error: 80070032; Source: Windows). The operating system reported error 2147942450: The request is not supported. If i remove my SATA disk and change in task sequence to Disk Number 1 it works fine. However i do not wish have to remove the disk since this is intended to be Zero Touch. I've tried to search the forums as well as google without any further luck. Does anyone have a clue how to resolve this issue?
  4. Hi, I am currently trying to distribute content to one of our secondary servers that acts as a DP. The distribution fails to the server stating lack of free disk space. I have review the destination server and it has ample space on all drives. I have attached a photo with the exact error message I am receiving. Has anyone successfully resolved this issue or can someone guide me into the right path? Thanks
  5. I've been dealing with about 400 machines out of 1500 that report that the client in the console shows No. I've gone to several clients only to find that they do have it installed, listed in Control Panel, MP registration is valid and assigned to the one and only Site on our Domain. This occurs on multiple subnets not just 1 and I have several machines in different subnets that do report with Yes Client. SO here I am trying to locate the disconnect... Machines on different subnets, each have a valid boundary and boundary group assigned to a DP, with the check box on Site Assignment of my site, etc, which is apart of the same Domain and 1 MP that the other 1000 machines report Yes fine on. So just for sakes, because I looked around Google for so long without answers, I wanted to pass by and pose this question here. I think below should prove validity that my clients are truly there but the Console says No... 7. Guys, We have several automatic deployment rules that create deployments based on computer type (Server / Workstation). The deployment groups are created automatically but the actual deployment must be created manually because the 'outage' window for windows updates differents every month (the date is set about 3 months prior). This means creating about 25 deployments manually, we have a template that we use per deployment but its very (very very (understatement) very) slow and time comsuming. SCCM is at 2012 R2, and all workstations are Windows 7. Servers are 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 R2. Maintenance windows are not usable for us because it takes more than one month to deploy all the updates troughout all the (dtap) servers. With the new R2 there are some new powershell scripts available but as far as i can see no powershell is available for creating deployments on a automatically created deployement group. I've tried these without any luck : New-CMSoftwareUpdateAutoDeploymentRule New-CMSoftwareUpdateGroup Start-CMContentDistribution Start-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment (the last one should work but i can't seem to get it working? http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7bf537bf-2b15-4676-b33b-6deb88882bcd/sccm-2012-sp1-creating-a-software-package-deployment-with-powershell?forum=configmanagersdk ) Does someone know if it's possible to create a software update deployment for an automatically created software update group?
  8. I have to apologize for the length of the post right up front. I am having an issue with PXE boot while using SCCM 2012 R2. The issue is only with 64-Bit machines using UEFI. All others are working correctly. This is running in a test lab so it's a pretty simple setup at this time. I have two boot images (x86 and x64), both are distributed to the DP's and Unknown Computer support is enabled. I have two Task Sequences that I am testing. One is a Windows 7 x86 sequence - using the x86 Boot Image. The other is a Windows 8.1 sequence - using the x64 Boot Image. No applications or anything special in the task sequence, just standard OS installation. I was initially deploying both the x86 and x64 task sequences to the "All Unknown Computers" group. However, this caused issues as SCCM was selecting the initial PXE boot image based upon the last deployment. Therefore it would not always boot the correct architecture. I know I can boot the x86 image and deploy a 64 Bit OS. However, UEFI breaks all of this. When you attempt to PXE boot in UEFI mode, the architecture of the boot image must match the architecture of the machine. I have a mixture of x86 (Latitude 10 tablets) as well as newer x64 UEFI machines. There are also both x86 and x64 non UEFI capable machines. So I need to be able to support Non-UEFI as well as UEFI PXE booting for both the x86 and x64 architectures. To get around the issue with publishing multiple task sequences to Unknown computers, I have created two Collections to try to separate the x86 Unknown Computers and x64 computers. The collections each contain 1 member, the "x64 Unknown Computer" and "x86 Unknown Computer", respectively. I then modified the Windows 7 x86 task sequence to deploy to the "Unknown x86 Computers" collection. I also modified the Windows 8.1 task sequence to use the "Unknown x64 Computers" collection. I can now successfully boot an x86 NON-UEFI machine, an x64 NON-UEFI machine, as well as a UEFI x86 machine. They all pick up the correct boot image and run the task sequence just fine. The issue I am having is specifically with the UEFI 64-Bit machines. They PXE boot just fine, however when they do, they boot from the x86 Boot Image. Of course this doesn't work because of the UEFI mode. I get the following error: I have attached the SMSPXE.log file in case this helps. Now, here is the interesting part..... If I import the UEFI 64 Bit test machine via either the MAC address or GUID and add this to a collection and then deploy the Windows 8.1 Task Sequence to this collection, the machine boots the correct x64 Boot Image and runs the task sequence just fine. Anyone have any ideas how I can specifically target UEFI 64-Bit machines through a collection? -Chris SMSPXE.log

  10. Hello, I'm having an issue in my System Center 2012 R2 OS deployment where it fails when it gets to the point of installing the client. In the CCMLOG, I get this error: "HTTPS Communication protocol must be enabled when client is internet enabled". I don't have internet client nor https enabled in my environment (MP nor DP) and not planning to enable it. I'm curious why the client is trying to use https? Help! Thanks!
  11. Anyweb, I'm a huge fan of your SCCM tutorials / walkthrough's. I'd like to suggest two additional topics to be covered. I apologize if this isn't the location to suggest these. 1) Updating the boot image to include additional drivers - This would be helpful for newer systems that require newer NIC drivers to PXE boot when deploying an OS. 2) Best practices for adding additional driver support - Mainly Dell (and possibly other companies) driver packages for SCCM. 3) AMT provisioning - Again hardware based, and highly valuable! While working in a virtual environment is the easiest way to learn (fewer unknowns), there are people that use physical hardware to simulate real world environments. There are also people using real hardware in combination to VMs. The above topics would be very useful. As a reference, Dell has this URL: http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&docid=422607 It's useful, but the format used on windows-noob.com is totally AWESOME! Thank you for your consideration.
  12. I would like to deploy the Windows 8.1 Enterprise update to our Windows 8 Enterprise clients using SCCM. In testing it has been straight forward to deploy the update as an application by calling setup.exe /auto:upgrade and then leaving it to do the install. After a reboot Windows 8.1 is ready to go. My issue is that this leaves Windows needing activation, and to activate it I need to change the product key to our Windows 8.1 MAK key. I don't know how to achieve this using SCCM, so I was wondering whether people had any suggestions. I have considered the following approaches: Installing it via a task sequence. Issue here is that the 8.1 installation process restarts the machine and the task sequence doesn't resume after the restart. I can prevent the installation from doing the restart, but at that point I am still technically running Windows 8 so it doesn't accept the new product key. Using a script to install the update and then activate it. Again the script doesn't run for me after the restart to change the product key. Deploying a script via SCCM to a collection of machines that are running an unactivated copy of Windows 8.1 to get them to activate - however I am unable to create this collection as I am not very experienced with WQL. Some solution which uses Group Policy and WMI queries to run a log in script. This is a possibility but am reluctant to create a whole policy just for this when it feels like I should be able to achieve it in SCCM. I have searched the internet high and low to see how others have done this, but haven't been able to find anything so far. Any suggestions or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  13. Dear All, I would like to create one test lab for learning SCCM from scratch, My hardware details are as below Lenovo Thinkpad T520 Laptop Intel® Core™ i7-2640M 16 GB RAM 500 GB HDD 7200 RPM Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit I have iNstalled VMWare Workstation 10 I wanna have my lab setup as below Would like to install Primary stand alone site ( No CAS ) Please guide me : I have installed the below : ( all the installations by Administrator account ) 1) Windows 2008 r2 enterprise server as domain controller (sccm.digitech.lab) 8 GB RAM, 260 GB HDD with 2 partitions, 100 GB as "C:\" and remaining as "D:\" 2) all the prerequisites are installed as mentioned 3) SQL 2008 r2 Evaluation 4) iNstalled WDS, WSUS ( not configured ) 5) iNstalled SCCM 2012 without any warnings I have done the above atleast "N" number of times I am unable to find my Windows 7 64 & 32 bit, Windows XP workstations in SCCM device collection ( not joined domain, xp even when joined ) I am unable to run my "Build & Capture tasks" via PXE My goal is to create Windows XP "wim" with all drivers, iNstall via PXE Update the patches, iNstall applications like Office, antivirus and so on Please guide me where do I lack ... 15. I have manually installed Win7 on a pc in order to capture the image. I have disjoined from the domain, logged in as local admin, stopped the SMS Host agent service. I created a USB capture media, and started the process. I get to the point where the wizard starts, I enter the name of the .wim and all the other information. When I click finish, nothing happens. It never gets to the part where it starts to capture the image. What am I missing? What logs can I view to see the imaging process?
  16. Does anyone have any experience with SCCM 2012 and using it with Macs? I understand that SCCM 2012 SP1 integrated the use of Macs but having trouble finding information on it. All I see are different plugs that you can use in SCCM with Macs but SCCM 2012 SP1 is supposed to have native support for them isn't it? Thank you -Luke
  17. Hello, We are a couple of updates behind with our SCCM 2012 installation and are looking now to go to SCCM 2012 R2. We have not installed SP1 yet and I was hoping to get some opinions and guidance on the best way to go about getting to the new release. We do not want to stay on SCCM 2012 SP1 for any length of time, we want to install the service pack then turn around and install R2. With this in mind, do we need to install ADK 8.0, or is installing ADK 8.1 from the get go ok? Will SCCM 2012 SP1 except the newer ADK version? Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance, BCabrales

  20. I'm trying to determine the minimum requirements for a DP in 2012 which I'd like to PXE enable. What OS? What Bitness? I THOUGHT I had read that 64 bit was required, but seem to find contradictory information. I don't want to spend my days banging my head against a brick wall if something isn't possible. More specifically I am looking to PXE enable the following two: 1) 2003R2 SP2 x86 2) 2008 Std SP1 Any specific advice as to how to make it WORK would be appreciated if they _ARE_ supported. Thanks.
  21. I am new to SCCM and recently took over a system that has been partially configured. I am trying to understand the "best practice" for deploying applications. I think we have an issue with one of our Device Collections that contains various software (about 10 different products). Some of the software is marked as available and the remaining is marked as required. For the required software, I think we have an issue when the software is updated on the computer before we update the version in the Device Collection. How does SCCM handle this scenario? For example, I have Java 7 Update 21 in this Device Collection and a system has Java 7 Update 25 installed. In the event viewer I see an application error of "Product: Java 7 Update 21 -- A newer version of Java is already installed" and in SCCM I have Error Code 0x643 (1603), Fatal error during installation." Is there a setting in SCCM to only attempt to install this required software if it is lower than SCCM's version or does not exist? Is there another way I should be deploying the required software? Also, I want the software to re-install if it is removed somehow from the system.
  22. I came to SCCM from managing software deployments via Group Policy, so the Active Directory environments I work in reflect my GPO-centric approach. For instance I'll create organizational units separated out by OS or CPU architecture, followed by physical location. Here's an example: mydomain.local - Windows 32-bit --- IT Office ------ PC1 ------ PC2 --- Marketing Office ------ PC3 ------ PC4 - Windows 64-bit --- IT Office 64 ----- PC5 --- Marketing Office 64 ----- PC6 This lets me deploy GPOs and other settings from the top down; I'd have a base set of defaults followed by specifics for a given location. My collections in SCCM will use the OU membership to tell which collection to put a PC in, usually as a consequence of migrating software deployments from GPOs to SCCM applications. When I introduce out-of-band management to this kind of AD tree, I'm not able to fit it. OOB Setup says I need to create or use an OU for OOB-managed PCs and ensure the appropriate SCCM servers have read/write access to that OU and can add and remove members to an AD group. But I have more than one OU set up; I can't pick them all. Say I pick "Windows 64-bit" as the OU that the OOB Service Point should use. As it discovers AMT-capable PCs it will create computer accounts in the root of this OU, so the resulting tree looks like this: mydomain.local - Windows 64-bit -- PC5$iME -- PC6$iME --- IT Office 64 ----- PC5 --- Marketing Office 64 ----- PC6 When SCCM does this though, the query rules that maintain my per-location collections will remove the original computer from its collection, and it will create new computer items named, for instance, "PC5iME" (without the "$") in that collection. If I don't have a collection for that OU, it will still have a computer object in the Devices list and it will appear in the All Systems collection, but with the new name. Hm, ok that isn't good. What if I created a new OU, and had SCCM's OOB service point create new computer accounts there instead? The resulting tree looked like this: mydomain.local - AMT-Managed PCs -- PC5$iME -- PC6$iME - Windows 64-bit --- IT Office 64 ----- PC5 --- Marketing Office 64 ----- PC6 ...only if I do that, the collections representing, say, "Windows 7 64-bit / IT Office 64" lose their computer objects entirely, and they don't appear in any other collection but "All Systems," and even then with the modified name like "PC5iME." I really don't want to destroy these OU trees just to accommodate AMT and OOB management, because I still have non-software GPOs that apply per-location, per-OS or per-CPU architecture. Or is SCCM the right tool for managing AMT in this environment? (By the way, why is "AMT" blocked as a search term?) --
  23. Unable to deploy software updates on some of the client machines Getting the below error in WUAHandler Log on all servers OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072efd. How to verify the communication between Client and the SCCM Server ? Configuration Managerger Server Version : SCCM2012 SP1
  24. we have setup sccm 2012 and push the windows updates to client, but we notice still all our client machine getting the windows update from microsoft not from our sccm server, so what could be the issue, we deploy the windows update server patch using GPO, we confirm the windows update from microsoft by looking at our internet management system i have check the client machine, "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location" its pointing to our sccm server, and also check the software centre, windows update available in the list, when i click install its show downloading 0% but not responding anything, attached here the snapshot for your reference we like to use SCCM for windows updates, adobe, flash update and also deploy applications
  25. Hi, I''m in the proces of building new images. I made 2 new images (captured with tasksequence) Windows 7 with Office2010 or 2013 and 2 new images with windows 7, Adobe CS 55 and Office2010 or Office 2013. This worked fine. Then I made new Tasksequences with the new images and a new Boot image. I also added CU2 for SCCM2012 SP1 to the Taskseqeunce list. All 4 TSQ's are running fine to the point where the applications step (I've got three application installation steps, all with 3 apps in it) begins. From then some installations stop at the first application, some stop at the second or third. And one is installing the first step but stops at the second (so three applications are indeed installed). No errors are visible in the SMSTS.log. And I know that these TSQ's are working because one out of ten is installing without a problem. So I'm getting pretty desperate. Anyone got some suggestions Got back this morning and 2 of my machines were still busy installing, they installed 2 applications overnight (Adobe Flash Player). It took about 15 hour?!?! One machine timed out, I'm gonna look for clues now.
