  1. Hi Folks We are using SCCM 2007 R2 & USMT 4.0 to migrate OS using hardlink option. In TS, we specifically mentioned under "Set Task Sequence Variable" step is "OSDStateStorePath" with the value "c:\_SMSTaskSequence\userState". We are using customize option under "Capture user files & setting" option & mentioned three xml files -- MigUser.xml, MigDocs.xml & MigApp.xml. Under "Restore user files & setting" step, we are using standard options only. TS is running fine & new OS is being installed and data is also being restored under respective partitions. Only issue is that we found a folder named "_SMSTaskSequence/userState" in every partition & this folder contains duplicate copy of the restored data which is unnecessarily occupying disk space. We want that this folder should be removed from partitions automatically after successful restoration of the data. No error reported in smsts.log file. I'm attaching scanstate log file with start point & end point Start point 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] USMT Started at 2012/07/18:12:41:25.599 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] Command line: \\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\scanstate.exe c:\_SMSTaskSequence\userState /o /localonly /c /efs:copyraw /v:5 /l:C:\Windows\system32\CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog\scanstate.log /progress:C:\Windows\system32\CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog\scanstateprogress.log /i:\\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigUser.xml /i:\\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigDocs.xml /i:\\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigApp.xml /nocompress /hardlink 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Status [0x000000] Activity: 'MIGACTIVITY_COMMAND_LINE_PROCESSING' 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] Script file specified: \\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigUser.xml[gle=0x00000002] 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] Script file specified: \\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigDocs.xml[gle=0x00000002] 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] Script file specified: \\Xx-xx-xx\SMSPKGD$\PJB00079\x86\MigApp.xml[gle=0x00000002] 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] Replacement Manifests are processed because this OS version has built-in component manifests 2012-07-18 12:41:25, Info [0x000000] The ReplacementManifests folder used to service system component manifests is not present. 2. Hello Everyone, We are in the middle of gearing up for Windows 7 migration. I am in the process of testing the TS that will be used for the migration. I am running into issues though. My company uses Check Point for hard drive encryption. I got the boot image to commuicate with the hard drive when it first reboots into it. I have the "State Migration Point" configured on the site server. I want to do the following and need to know if it is possible. - Capture user settings and data. (TS has to be started in OS) - Perform a full wipe on the drive. (Removed Checkpoint from the hard drive.) - Apply Win 7 image. - Restore user settings and data. Thanks in advance for your time.
  3. I'm trying to capture data from one PC and run a new TS to build Win7 with SOE and then restore the USMT.mig from the SMP to the new PC. I have successfully completed USMT by hardlinks and that works great, but I just can't seem to get USMT via SMP to work. I am using the MigDocs.xml, MigApp.xml, and MigUser.xml files to specify the capture data and it captures successfully on the SMP. I then have a separate TS to build a new OS, install apps, and then the last step to Request State Store, Restore User State, then Release User State. The TS completed but the User Sate hasn't been restored. It's not a permissions issue as I have created a test custom.xml capture file to only capture a single directory and it restores fine (Capture C:\Test\*.* and that directory restores fine). But when trying to restore a full user state capture (~30Gb) it won't restore. I don't want local profiles to restore so I haven't specified this in my TS. I have attached the loadstate.log for more information. loadstate.log
  4. Hey all, I'm trying to understand which USMT files are responsible for migrating which user elements. We're moving from Windows XP to 7...this week. I've been doing a lot of testing and found that most of the Default USMT settings (Following your awesome guide, anyweb, on using USMT from SCCM) are great in our environment. However, the default settings also attempt to migrate Office plugins and this and that setting from our XP machines which aren't appropriate for our Win7 environment. I've gone back into SCCM and specified to "Customize how user profiles are captured" and picked my MigDocs.xml and MigUser.xml. Since I'm not using MigApp.xml, am I correct in assuming that no application settings will be migrated? Before you say that it is bad practice to use both MigDoc and MigUser, we have a list of extensions specified in MigDocs that the user may have scattered over their PC, and use this xml file to ensure the files get copied over. Thanks guys!
  5. Hi, We are currently migrating XP machines to Windows 7 Enterprise and would like to know if its possible to query the SCCM DB during OSD to install applications that are advertised to the machine? to ensure that after imaging all required software are installed instead of waiting. Regards, E'John

    USMT Scan / Load

Hello, I have some questions about USMT and config.xml i was hoping someone can help me out. My understanding of using a Config.xml file is that I need one for systems going from XP to Windows 7 and another one for Windows 7 to Windows 7 since the DlManifests are different on the two OS's. So if I run Scanstate.exe on a XP machine, using ConfigXP.xml after upgrading the OS to Windows 7 i have to run the LoadState.exe using the ConfigXP.xml file? And the same goes for Windows 7 reimages. I use ScanState.exe with the ConfigW7.xml and restore using LoadState.exe with the ConfigW7.xml. If the above is true, what is the best way to automate if ScanState.exe was ran from a XP machine, to use the correct Config.XML file once the machine is upgraded to Windows 7? Thank you.
  7. Hello,I need to migrate arround 1300+ computers from XP to Win7.On Windows XP we have 3 Systems partitions C: - D: - E:On Windows7 we have only 1 partitions C:What I need is :For Scanstate : ( We need to backup all data ) Rerouting File from C:\ to %public%\MIGRATION\Backup-C-DriveRerouting File from D:\ to %public%\MIGRATION\Backup-D-DriveRerouting File from E:\ to %public%\MIGRATION\Backup-E-DriveRerouting ALL PSTs from C: - D: - E: to Rerouting File from C:\ to %public%\MIGRATION\Backup-OutlookRerouting ALL CLSID_MYDOCUMENTS, CLSID_Desktop, CLSID_MyVideo, CLSID_MyPicture to C:\Users\%username%\DocumentsAnd for Loadstate I need the same but I need to exclude some files extensions from restore. Here is a part of my configuration XML file for Scanstate. The problem is ... The excluded file is restored everytime ...When I Look on C:\Users\Public\MIGRATION\Backup-E-Drive I see *.avi *.jpeg etc.... but it's excluded on the Config file. What I want in bref is ALL Files is backuped on Scanstate and All files is restored on Loadstate exept the Extensions in the <exclude><exclude> is not full because if I put all extensions I can't send this threadHow I can do this ? Someting is wrong ...
  8. Dear all, I will migrate my computers from XP to Windows 7 32 bits. 1. I created a task sequence (see below) but scanstate scans my D drive. How can I avoid that ? I used the metod 1 on this site http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2010/06/30/how-to-use-usmt-4-hardlinking-in-a-configuration-manager-2007-task-sequence.aspx 2. Should I install applications after or before restoring data ? Thank you.

    USMT Hardlinking

Hello all, i have a question for you.I make a succesfully migration with hardlinking and i want to know if the folders created during the scanstate must be cleared after the loadstate.Because i can see my files duplicated and consuming space. Also i can see the same in a second partition every pc has.Is it normal or do i have to make changes to the task sequence. Thank you very much
  10. Hi I’ve installed SCCM 2007 R3, SP2 on a lab environment. I’ve set it up on a server 2008,R2,SP1 and I used Hyper-V.I have my SCCM on 1 VM and AD,DHCP on another. So far I’ve been able to do the following: Capture a Win7x64(SP1) image and deploy it using PXE boot and advertisement on the client machine. Software packages also deploy fine. I’ve been able to use usmt 4.0 to upgrade XP to the captured image using hardlink. When I try and use USMT over the network it copies the files to my SCCM point fine then continues to install Win7 and load it on the domain exactly as it should but it doesn't copy the files back. My task sequence fails on: Restore User Files and Settings I unfortunately reverted my image back to XP while hitting my head against my keyboard after yet another failed attempt. So alas I don’t have the smsts log. I can however repeat the process and try and get it then. I have checked file permissions on the backup directory and all seems fine there. If anyone has any ideas I’d really appreciate them, if I can post any SCCM logs to help you identify the issue please let me know. Thanks in advance

    Invalid user mapping

I have a state migration that will not restore, the capture part worked fine but when trying to restore, it fails with this error; "Error [0x000000] Invalid user mapping: (UserID) -> (SID)[gle=0x00000006]" I've done some research and it looks like this is caused by a poorly run Active Directory migration (our parent company migrated our domain to theirs some time ago). Anyway, I have a system that has been migrated to Win7 from WinXP and the Restore User State fails, I need to get the user state restored. Any ideas? I am attaching the Loadstate.log file in case it could help...
