Software Updates not being deployed to client machines

I have just deployed a new 2012 R2 configuration manger install to take over from our broken 2012 Configuration manager.

 

I have got it all up and running, created the software update groups for MS updates, the client has been redeployed to all the local devices and are all reporting back to the SCCM 2012 R2 box.

 

My problem is the software update job is not deploying the updates, if I go into "Monitoring > Deployments > Monthly Update" and do view status, I can see all devices in the "Unknown" tab all showing as Checked/Active but no machines in Success, In progress, Error those tabs only display "Status information is currently unavailable for this deployment"

 

Can someone please lend a hand, a thought as to what might be the problem, where I can look etc

Hi,

Check the WindowsUpdate.log file on the clients and make sure that the Local Policy that points the WSUS client to the SCCM SUP is correct. The SCCM Client on the compouter creates the local policy. Any conflicting Group Policy setting for WSUS would be seen there as well.

Are there any errors in the System Status on the Site server for the Software Update Point?

There are no errors in the System Status that I can see on the site server.

 

I have looked at the local policy and can find no trace where the WSUS client information is.

On a client machine open the registry (regedit.exe) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

The values contained in this regsitry key will tell you where your clients are attempting to go for Software Updates. You should see the name of your Primary Site server (or whatever server you have the Software Update Point role installed) located in here.

I agree, your client does not seem to be pointing to a WSUS server. It is checking MS for updates via internet.
