SCCM 2012 R2 Fail to Install during Installing SMS provider

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've been a reader for a while, but this is my first post!

I'm working on standing up SCCM 2012 R2 and during the installation I get a failure on "Installing SMS provider" stage of the install and I've been poking away at it 2 days now without much success. :(

My ConfigMgrSetup.log is mostly boring except for the last few lines, where it fails on CompileMOFFile

Reads like so (including the above code, incase it is a WMI issue):

I'm not sure how to proceed on diagnosing this issue, I originally though it might be an SPN issue with the service account I was using to do the installation of SCCM 2012 R2 with, and added that in adsi edit.
I can happily provide more logs / details, but I'm at a complete loss. This is my first production SCCM setup and I'm stuck :(
Thanks & take care

Hello All, This can be closed.

The issue was related to WMI:

Speaking with our Server/Blade guys, it turned out that the HP Insight Management Agent and HP insight Management WBEM providers weren't fully supporting Windows Server 2012 R2 until recently.

Specifically the WBEM providers WAS the issue causing issues with WMI.

These packages were subsequently uninstalled and updated to the latest version.

After a restart, I re-attempted installing SCCM 2012 R2, and it completely worked!!!

I hope this helps someone, I hate it when nobody ever posts updates to their issues.

Thanks & take care

Graphite,

Thank you for replying with your resolution. I too had the same issue occur with a new server I am deploying. I downloaded the latest HP Service Pack for Proliant and updated the WBEM that way. I did have to select the WBEM update manually, though, because for some reason, the HP update software did not select it by default like others.
