Task Sequence to avoid complete disk format

Question

Hi ,

My Scenario,

I have captured image of Dell latitude E5400. For project requirement We need to create standalone boot media such as DVD .

I have Configured custom TS with following settings,

- Restart in Windows PE.

- Partition Disk.

- Disk number :0

- Disk type : Standard(MBR)

- Volume : System Primary:20480 MB fixed size. NTFS file system

- Apply Operating system image...<Image>

- Apply Windows Setting.

- Apply Networking setting : WORKGROUP

Created a task sequence media to configure Stand Alone boot (CD/DVD) media.

Problem..!!

Whenever I am going to install image from CD/DVD. It complete format the HD & creates a single drive of 20GB.so if data exist on other drive goes to complete loss :(

What I want..??

So I want to configure TS such that , TS must be prompt for configure partitions though they exists or not....Please guide me or if you related documents please provide me...:)

Thanks.

Remove the step Format and Partition Disk from your Task Sequence. Now the Task Sequence will only Wipe the partition on which you want to install the OS.

Thanks for reply. You mean like standard installation from DVD this will prompt for disk & partition configuration...??

Thanks.

first thank you about this good idea of how to solve this issue but i have a problem that i works in an enterprise newtork that the pcs might be formatted with fat 32 ya fat 32

so i went to a virtual lab and your solution to remove the formatand partion disk from the task sequence works great but only for a previous formatted partions with ntfs but with fat32 partions it goes with an error code 8000405

so what i should do to solve this issue

No it will not prompt for anything. It will just wipe the partition instead of formatting it.

Hi Peter,

So what option should be selected in "Apply Operating system image" step ?

Next available formatted partition

Specific Disk and Partition

Specific logical drive letter

Logical drive letter stored in a variable
