SCCM 2007 ZTI Windows 7 Deployment Trouble

Question

Good Morning,

I am having some issues deploying Windows 7 X86 in my VM lab. I followed the guides step by step and have gone through every troubleshooting guide I could find. What is happening is that when my client PXE boots it gets all the way into WinPE and quits just after "Preparing Network Connections". However, I can verify that the NIC drivers are NOT the problem by opening the command prompt and running ipconfig. It is receiving an IP address no problem. I also checked the SMSPXE.LOG file and it does not appear to have any problems. I have updated all my distribution points, and deleted/recreated my task sequence and re-advertised it. Unless I'm setting up my Task Sequence wrong, I don't know what the issue is. The ONLY thing that I've done differently than the guides is to create a task sequence that does NOT build and capture but instead installs the OS Package directly.

See attachment for Screenshots. Below is what prints out in my SMPXE.LOG file. I could not find my SMSTS.LOG file or my ZTIValidate.log file. I'm not sure if they are created yet since it's not getting very far.

Thanks in advance for any help. I am stuck in the water over here.

-Josh

Hi there,

I think that's what Eswar was talking about. You need to specify an account that will be used by Task Sequence to access Network Share on SCCM Server to read Boot Image, and ultimately write the OS Image you captured also to (other) network location.

If you don't have one, create it, usually named NetworkAccess or similar.

When you create it, set sharing and security permissions (Read is enough) onto this foder \\DEPLOY.BENEDEPLOY.LOCAL\SMSPKGC$\, or any folder where the boot image is contained in. Also, this account should also have necessery permissions for accessing location for writing down Captured Image.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Vladimir Jakovljevic

Where in SCCM do I tell it to use this account? In one of the user guides it tells me to create two users SMSUser and SMSAdmin, but I don't know where/if it tells me where to use them in SCCM.

I believe it's here (but bscially it can be ANY user account you give the Read rights to Boot Image on Network Share):

Wow, I deserve to be on a windows-noob forum...that was my problem. The user I entered there was typed in wrong. The guide even specifically highlights to make sure of this.

Thanks guys!
