Error while attempting hardlink migration Xp-Win7

Question

Hi

I've been trying the to use the example task sequence posted by Niall Brady, but continue to have the following error crop up at the "Capture User Files and Settings" step. Does the "/hardlink is not a valid option" indicate a problem with the version of USMT? I've upgraded the WAIK, and my package is pointing to the USMT directory (including the x86 and AMD64 subs, so I'm pretty sure I'm trying to run USMT 4.0). Any suggestions?

The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (Capture User Files and Settings) in the group (Capture User Files and Settings) with the error code 2147942403

Well, the Task Sequence of Niall needs that the package directory is set a level lower (so on x86 or x64). See the commandline: C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00108\scanstate.exe

So you're saying for the capture it should be pointing to \USMT\x86 (since the current OS is XP), and the Restore should be pointing to X64 (since the final OS is win7 64bit)?

Well, that got rid of one error - now I see -

The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (Capture User Files and Settings) in the group (Capture User Files and Settings) with the error code 2147942428

Action output: eprogress.log" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x86\MigApp.xml" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x86\MigDocs.xml" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x86\MigUser.xml" /hardlink /nocompress

Creating directory "c:\_SMSTaskSequence\userState"

Connection request for "c:\_SMSTaskSequence\userState"

Path is not a UNC Path. Trying it as a local path.

Succeeded loading resource DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\1033\TSRES.DLL'

Executing command line: "C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\scanstate.exe" "c:\_SMSTaskSequence\userState" /o /localonly /c /efs:skip /v:5 /l:"C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog\scanstate.log" /progress:"C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog\scanstateprogress.log" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x8\MigApp.xml" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x86\MigDocs.xml" /i:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\SMA00123\x86\MigUser.xml" /hardlink /nocompress

USMT returned exit code (0x0000001c). Look USMT log file scanstate.log for detail error message.. The operating system reported error 2147942428: The printer is out of paper.

the scanstate log says it can not find MigUser.xml, and will occxasionaly say the same about MigApp.xml.

i notice that the command line for scanstate is c:\_smstasksequence\Packages\PackageID\, yet the command line for the xml files is c:\_smstasksequence\Packages\PackageID\x86\ - however the EXE and the XML files are in the same directory in the package - so it appears to be looking in the wrong place for the XML files. Where do I chage that?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, but this has been pretty frustrating.......

I see you have the same error I did..."The printer is out of paper".

Try updating your distribution point for the USMT 4 package.

I had made changes to my USMT .xml files and forgot to update the distribution points.

Also, according to Microsoft, you should not use migdocs.xml in conjunction with miguser.xml.

Hope this helps

Mike
