using SCCM 2012 RC in a LAB - Part 11. Adding the Reporting Services Point role

Recommended Posts

Hey...hope everyones well. I have an issue with installing the reporting role. The instance does not show up after i verify the database. Can someone help? I am thinking it is some sort of security issue or setup issue with the sql server, but i need a little guidance, and the microsoft site isn't the most helpful.

How much is WMI a part in this..in my lab it retrieved the instances in a second and i didn't have to do any extra configuration, but using a remote sql site, i am running into this issue. Any help is appreciated. I just haven't found a whole lot on requirements.

Thank you.

SOLVED one...created another :) OK..solved that one. I was using an admin account with too many rights is my guess. I created a new smsadmin account, gave it rights to the sql box, and the sccm box. Then i made it a full admin on the server, and BINGO...it was able to retrieve the instances and install the reporting role. HOWEVER!! That was on the primary, now when i try to install the role on the CAS, I get the following message in component status..."Site Component Manager detected that this component should be installed on this site system. Site Component Manager will attempt to install the component every 60 minutes until the installation succeeds."

I figured it out, i had to configure the reporting services on the SQL because the database was not created. Now it works!

But when i browse the site , it looks like this.

HELP HELP HELP!!!!

OK...so i am having trouble running certain reports...seems to be anything related to Hardware:..one thing to mention also is that it no longer displays information about a computer when i click on a user and then do the "start" device explorer..it just gives the computer's GUID. Could this be WMI related, or strickly a sql issue? When you uninstall the report role, do you have to manually remove the report database or does it remove that as well.

This is from the sql server using IE.:

  • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    • Query execution failed for dataset 'DataSet1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
      • Invalid object name 'v_GS_X86_PC_MEMORY'.

This is from the reportserverservice log:

Update...i blieve it is something to do with hardware inventory. Since i can see everything in the resource explorerer on our primary site, but not on the CAS, they are not synced. We had also created new clinet settings, and deployed that...which may have screwed up the inventory, not syncing with the CAS, which has the reporting role, which we can't seem to get installed on the primary. can both the cas and primary have a reporting role installed, using two seperate sql instances (both on the same sql server)? How to i revert all the systems to the default client settings and get everything synced again, so my hardware inventory is up to date on both the cas and primary and i can run reports again.

Hello - Im having the same issue as Steve Murphy above. We have reporting services installed on another server separate from where my site server database is installed. When trying to add the role, the field for "Reporting Services Server Instance" is blank with nothing in the drop down. This makes sense because reporting services is not installed on the server where my database is installed which is where it is checking. Is there a way to point it to another reporting services server instance?

if u check the monitoring > Component Status > SMS_SRS_Reporting_POINT it looks like this.

The report server service is not running on Reporting Service Point server "XXX.SE"; start the service to enable reporting.

And the service IS RUNNING, ive rebooted the servers, restarted the services nothing seems to help.

Hi and thx for the fast reply!

I am runnig SQL Server 2008 R2 with CU 4.

The SQL Service is running under the SQL service account for that system.

Should i upgrade to CU 6?

And the SQL is runing on a different server, not on the same server as the CM.

Thank you ! i totally missed that one. I will report back when i have applied the update!4

Wooooooooooooooo it works now after the CU6 patch! lova ya guys :)

The problem is that if you are running SQL Server 2008 R2 and if you are running the database on a NON-default instance the SCCM will have problems locating it because it querys the WMI and looks for the default sql instance.

So if you are having this problem and you are running the database in an named instance, you need this patch! :)

I am trying to run a report from Software > Companies and Products > Computers with a specific name and version, however, the Product Name, and Product Version drop down lists are empty. Can you explain how to populate a list?

[EDIT]: Solved the problem. It was my mistake: I mistakenly clicked on the site server which did not have the SQL Server Reporting Services installed. Sorry for wasting everybody's time.

I cannot agree. I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 [on a separate DB server, not on SCCM 2012 server], the version is 10.51.2796.0, and having the same problem: no instance name while installing reporting services role. post-16177-0-19052500-1337765355_thumb.png

SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP1 is a supported configuration.Reporting Services is running without problems:post-16177-0-61432500-1337765540_thumb.png

In this configuration, it is not possible to install CU 6, because the updates/hotfixes are already embedded in the SP. Running CU 6 on my setup ceases with "nothing to update" error.

Any ideas where the problem may be?

you must install Cu6, your version is Cu4 (you made a typo with 10.51.2796.0 ?)

10.50.2796 SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU4

are you attempting to install CU6 for SQL Server 2008 R2 or CU6 for the regular version of SQL Server 2008

below is the link to download the correct version of CU6, please try again...

Step 10. Download Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6

Note: Perform the following on the Active Directory server AD1 as an Administrator

The supported versions of SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 are listed here on Technet:- http://technet.micro...nfigSQLDBconfig

In this guide I will be installing SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6. The currently supported version for Configuration Manager 2012 is SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6.

Download the following from Technet:- File Name: en_sql_server_2008_r2_standard_x86_x64_ia64_dvd_521546.iso (4177 MB)

Download Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

Download Cumulative update package 6 for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

Hi all,

I have a problem with Reporting Service. I am able to start reports from my SCCM Console. But if I run IE with URL \\sccm01.test.local\reports it gives me error "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found".

Thanks for any answer

Hi there, I'm having difficulty getting reports to show up in the SCCM 2012 console. I have SCCM 2012 running on WIndows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and SQL is running 2008 R2 SP1 CU6 on another server. The reporting service is installed and all the reports are available through the report manager url on the SQL server. The reporting services point is configured to use a domain user, and that user is a part of the Read-only Analyst security role on SCCM. I have read and re-read the amazing documentation available on this site (thank you!) and am stuck scratching my head.

Any insight would be most helpful! Thanks.
