using System Center 2012 Configuration Manager - Part 5. Adding WSUS, Adding the SUP role, deploying the Configuration Manager Client Agent

Recommended Posts

ยท Good morning-I have followed every article I can possibly find and admit defeat at this point. CM12 SUP is not syncing correctly, not WSUS on Server 2012.

I have installed Primary site on a Windows 2012 R2, SQL 2012 (All updates) and CM12 R2. SQL server is an external clustered setup from the Primary site. I have verified IIS ports are correct. Any help resolving this will be greatly appreciated. This area seems to a pain point for many folks.

have you tried the fix from sebastian here ?

ย

ย

retty strange behavior but here's what I did to fix it:

1.) Uninstall SUP role

2.) Uninstall WSUS

4.) Delete SUSDB from SQL Server

5.) Restart Server

6.) Install WSUS (Chose to install DB nit WID)

7.) Configured Updates to be stored locally

8.) Ran Post Deployment Configuration from Server manager

9.) Started WSUS Admin Console and ran Wizard (also chose to connect for the catalog sync) up to the Point where you select the products (like Kent suggested). Here I canceled the wizzard without chosing any products

10.) Install SUP role in SCCM and configure the right Settings (WSUS on Server 2012 Defaults to its own admin Website and ports 8530 and 8531) and select the products I needed

11.) Checked wcm.log where everything seemed all right now.

12.) started synchronization in the sccm console

Hi,

ย

I seem to be having an issue with my clients. I have WSUS installed on our CAS and primary site and everything seems to work ok but my clients report back as "unknown" when I look in the SCCM console where you see "Compliant, Required, Not Required, Unknown".

ย

The only 2 systems that are "know" are the CAS and primary servers. We have enabled software updates on the client settings. I have tried using a GPO to point to the primary site as per this blog, I have also tried it without the GPO but still no luck.

ย

I have looked in WHAHandler and this file looks ok with the primary site identified as the update source.

ย

Really pulling my hair out on this one <_<

Thanks

first things first have you verified on the clients that the configuration manager client itself has installed correctly ? (check the ccmsetup.log file on the clients in the ccmsetup folder), do all the actions appear in the actions tab ? does it get policy ? if it's a workgroup computer is it approved ?

Hi,

ย

The client is installed correctly and everything appears in the actions tab. I seem to be getting some results now. Do you have to deploy a update group for the system to report back? I now have 4 compliant, 6 Non Compliant and 38 Unknown.

ย

I have Software updates scan schedule set to 1 day at present. Planning to reduce this to an hour to try and find out where I stand with the unknowns.

ย

I think that after reinstalling WSUS and re adding the Role this is now working. I may have been impatient and just jumped on hear too early.

ย

Thanks for you advice and I will let you know how this turns out

Hi,

ย

Just an update.

ย

The reason Updates were not working - in needed to install KB2720211 and KB2734608 after installing WSUS. I re-added the role and after giving the server some time(overnight) I now have software updates working fine and the PC's and tablets are now reporting back.

ย

Thanks for the reply. Great website, really helping me out.
