have you correctly or incorrectly configured proxy settings the 0x824402c error means as below:

Same as ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED - the proxy server or target server name cannot be resolved.

Great thanks. I did not setup any proxy ...or at least I thought i did not.

I am guessing i can do this?

Applied To: SCCM 2007, SCCM 2012

To configure the proxy settings for the software update point

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> - <site name> / Site Settings / Site Systems / <SiteSystemName>.
  2. Right-click Software update point, and then click Properties.
  3. Enter proxy server name, port number, and whether credentials are used to connect to the proxy server.

Will let you know

Thank you for your response

Oddly i have no proxy setting something must of gone wrong on the installation or i missing something. Back to step one

I tried

  • netsh winhttp reset proxy
  • net stop wuauserv
  • net start wuauserv

I also tried a new PC VM and same error so it something on WSUS. I am a newbee @ Wsus but practice makes perfect. A good weekend project.

Hey guys,

Firstly, thanks for these guides, they're very informative and helpful.

I've installed SCCM 2012 according to these instructions with SUP and Endpoint protection. SCEP and updates are working great, and Windows Updates are installing. However, devices are counting down and forcing users to reboot outside of a maintenance Window, showing this window:

12.png

I have the following settings, but can't figure out why this is coming up:

  • Device collection
    • Targeting only Windows 8.1 devices.
    • Maintenance window - every day from 3:00pm to 8:30am.
  • Automatic Deployment Rule
    • Evaluation schedule - runs every day at 3:00am.
    • Deployment Schedule - Software Available time set to 2 hours, deadline is set to 7 days.
    • User Experience - Hide all notifications, deadline behaviour options are both unticked, device restart behaviour both unticked (suppressed).
    • Download settings - Deployment options set to 'Do not install software updates'.
    • Deployed to the above collection.
  • Client settings
    • Software Updates enabled, scheduled scan every 1 days at 12am. scheduled deployment re-evaluation every 7 days at 12am.
    • Computer Restart is not enabled and set.
    • Deployed to the above collection.
  • Group Policy
    • 'Specify intranet Microsoft update service location' is pointing to our SCCM server. (http://sccm.xxxx.local:8530)
    • 'Configure Automatic Updates' set to Disabled. - This is different to what's advised in the guide.
    • 'No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations' Enabled.

I think the above settings are the main ones, unless I'm missing something?

Can you not have a deadline? Does setting the Installation deadline to 0 days disable this?

If I don't specify Computer Reset settings in my custom Client Device Settings (unticked), do the default ones apply without deploying the Default Client Settings?

Ideally in our situation we want Windows Updates to install silently and not prompt to reboot, regardless of the deadline.

I appreciate any help with this. It's driving me nuts!

Deployment Schedule - Software Available time set to 2 hours, deadline is set to 7 days.

by enforcing a Deadline, you are forcing the installation of Updates which in some cases can cause reboots (if the updates themselves require a reboot) to be completed before the deadline is reached, you cannot set a deadline of 0 days,

you didn't say if your ADR configured for Client Local Time or UTC ? same goes for your maintenance window settings

there are three things that cause the system restart window you are seeing

  • deployment notification is enabled for the client
  • user notification is not set to 'hide in software center and all notification'
  • an installed update (or updates) requires a reboot

are you sure your maintenance windows are configured correctly and that the client computer is not in another collection with different maintenance windows ?
