using System Center 2012 Configuration Manager - Part 5. Adding WSUS, Adding the SUP role, deploying the Configuration Manager Client Agent

Recommended Posts

Thanks for your reply.

How do I not enforce a deadline? By selecting 'As soon as possible' rather than specifying 7 days, wouldn't this cause reboots to occur sooner than 7 days?

The ADR and maintenance window are both based on Client local time, not UTC.

In the ADR, the User Experience is set to 'Hide in Software Center and all notifications'.

Say a device is a member of a second collection, but nothing is actually deployed to this collection, do the settings from this second collection apply for the installation of updates? I had a couple of other collections but the devices in question were not part of them.

to not enforce a deadline you'd have to deploy your updates one by one or as members of a software update group and make the deployment Available, that way, the user is never forced to isntall any update, however that kind of defeats the purpose of installing updates (which are to keep your computers secure)

so going back to your problem, are you computers installing updates at the deadline or not ?

When updates are deployed, does the deadline apply from the time the update is deployed? So, if the next day more updates are deployed, would there effectively be two deadlines applied to the clients? How can I determine the deadline of an update deployment?

When testing, updates are installing the second they hit the set maintenance window, the computer sits there for hours after the updates install and nothing appears - no reboot prompts.

It was also difficult to test because clients were rebooting at 3am due to the group policy setting C'onfigure Automatic Updates' being set to this which I have now set to disabled.

The problem is that clients are receiving the reboot prompt at random times. I do suspect a possible second collection with a different maintenance window causing this, though. I'll just have to wait and see what happens after removing them.

Hello Great Windows---Noobites,

Thanks for all your help in the past.

Ran into this challeng on SCCM 2012 R2.

WSUS 3.0 SP2 suddenly stoped working, hence SCCM was not able to get new updates.

I eventually had to uninstall WSUS thinking I could reinstall it and sccm will continue as before, unfortunately , WSUS 3.0 SP2 could not reinstal on the same sever any more.

i have log snips here , esepcially where I belive the error started.

This is the secnario

  • SCCM 2012 R2
  • SQL SERVER 2008 R2 SITE DATABASE
  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 (SQL SERVER DATABASE)
  • IIS Default web site (Sccm sites are on the Default Web site)
  • New WSUS installtion targets 8530 port (Installation commences naturally )
  • Then once it gets to Configurtion Web Application it throws the error below.

I do not want to resintall SCCM.

I just want to get WSUS working again on this server.

find logs below

Any ideas?

I am trying to get updates installed on my clients. In the windowsupdate.log I find this rule: "2014-08-14 11:56:16:796 900 b0 Agent Reporting status event with 102 installable, 2 installed, 0 installed pending, 0 failed and 0 downloaded updates"

But no updates are actually getting installed. What are the available logs to check for errors?

Hi, i´m having a problem with step 3 in this guide.

Running ConfigMgr 2012 r2 CU2 on two 2012 r2 servers.

All works up until the installation, the servers gets the ccmsetup via Windows Update but it fails during installation, the ccmsetup.log says it cant find the site in AD, we have extended the schema.
