Black screen with cursor 2025

Rebooted an old Dell 980 (that has been bulletproof for years) saw the windows boot image, then BLACK screen and a live (movable) cursor. Nothing I do seems to affect it. Replaced the (weak old) power supply. now it boots to a black screen faster. tried using a win 7 recovery iso and was able to get it to attempt to Restore.

recent restore (few days ago) same problem.

restore from 20 days ago same problem.

restore for 21 days ago, Restore died with ox800700B7 error.

(my noob guess is a bad driver update by Avast updater, but no way to know which one. Or even if it happened.)

Thanks for listening. (I have a win10 workstation, winXP workstation, win 11 laptop, win8 media pc, and a SGI IRIX. This is the only machine pissing me off.)

Vexing problem with Proxy settings on Windows 7

The issue I'm describing is VERY FRUSTRATING. We are decommissioning a proxy server yet our firewall is still showing windows 7 computers hitting the proxy server.

Here are the steps that I've taken and what I've looked at on one of the computers in question.

DESELECTED "Automatically Detect Settings"

Set "Use automatic configuration script" to reference the CORRECT proxy server that is currently in use

DESELECTED AND CLEARED the entry under the "Proxy Server" entry for "Use a proxy server for your LAN......" Fields are blank and UNCHECKED

Edited the registry and removed ALL references to the proxy server that we DO NOT want to reference (the one being decommissioned) both IP address and the hostname that references the proxy server.

Changed the one installed application to point to the correct proxy server.

Flushed the DNS cache on the workstation.

With ALL these steps taken, can someone tell me where to look or tell me why the machine is still trying to reach out to the proxy that we're decommissioning?

Hard Disk Encryption w Dual Boot

I'm dual booting Win7 and Kali Linux. Are there any risks to encrypting my hard drive as far as corruption? Any ideas as to backing up both partitions in case something goes wrong?

Windows 7 Upgrading IE 8 to IE 11 causes user service profile service failed

Hello,

I have a issue when deploying my task sequences with our Windows 7 Enterprise x64 it has IE and we need to upgrade to IE 11.

The deployment was created by using IEAK 11.

After the task sequence is finished I go to the software center and run the upgrade to IE 11 which works fine. However when a new user tries to logon it get the error of "User Profile service fail to logon"

I did some digging and apparently it changes the permissions on the Default user profile in turn it cannot create a new user profile (domain account)

If an account was logged on before the upgrade there are no issues.

Here are some questions:

1. Is there a way to alter the current windows 7 enterprise .wim to include IE 11?

2. Does MS already have a new version of Win 7 Enterprise with IE 11?

3. If no to the above. Are there any suggestions to how I may accomplish upgrading IE 8 to IE 11 another way?

4. If not is there a way to fix this issue with a script or some alternate way?

Windows 7 image on Windows 10 install

Hello,

I have been using SCCM 2012 to image Network Computers by using a Network boot with installed image/task.

All machines I have been imaging have been Dell Optiplex Windows 7 machines. There is no Network driver in the package so I manually install that when imaging is complete

Recently i was given 3 HP Slimline Desktops 260 -p109 to image with Windows 10 installed on them ( I am the Administrator for several libraries)

However I am getting an error when I try to PXE boot/install. When I attempted to manually install and boot from CD Windows 7 installs but there is no USB drivers so I can not proceed.

( no mouse/keyboard working)

I am fairly new to SCCM and have only imaged a handful of machines since I started here.

I have been working on getting the migration xml files dialed in to do what I need them to do and most of what I have edited so far works as intended. However I would like to exclude all attached drives except for c:\. I am able to exclude any drive letter I want but instead of repeating the same chunk of code to exclude all 25 drives letters is it possible to use the != operator? I have tinkered with the below example but it doesn't seem to work as I would expect. Am I thinking to much like a programmer, do I have the syntax wrong, or does xml just not support common operators like that?

So I have and unattend usb flash drive that works perfectly when installing Win7 IE8.

I just updated my resource image to include IE 11 and now I get this:

I have read several times over that IE 10 and IE 11 do something weird to your unattended. But I need to know what to do here with my unattended to get this thing fixed.

So I have seen several ads to just commit out IE but thats dont going to work. Please help me resolve this issue. I am days behind because of this.

Has anyone had experience using MDT 2013 to image an EliteBook 840 G3 with the solid state drive with NVM Express?

I am trying to install Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit using MDT 2013.

I can drop the image but when it boots back up after Windows is installed the Windows flag starts to appear and then it freezes.

I have integrated these into the custom WIM file. KB2990940 and KB3087873 and also the USB 3.0 driver according to the HP document C05040446.

Any suggestions that I can try?

I started all the troubleshooting steps, and slowly I'm probably coming to realize what it is, but I have this event that I can not read well:

Ok I found that could be a problem Kerberos ticket but the strangest thing I do not understand is why this computer receives this error from another pc and not by a server:

Enable IE 11 Enterprise mode and Website list by script

I want to know if anyone has a script or tutorial on creating a script to "enable enterprise mode" and to allow enterprise mode to use a "website list" to manage certain sites. I know this should be fairly simple to do but I am new to scripting so I felt after several hours of looking and obviously creating the wrong searches, it time to ask the pros.

Would prefer vbscript, but will not refuse powershell.

SCCM 2012 Capture image issue 0x80070035

I am very new to SCCM and am attempting to capture my first image but it keeps failing with the error 0x80070035 during the "capture the reference machine" process.

My reference PC is a standalone HP 800G1 running Windows 7 SP1 x64 PC in a workgroup and have created the boot image iso on a DVD. I run the tsmbautorun.exe which runs sysprep and reboots the PC, then capture process starts and fails with the “image capture wizard has failed with the error code (0x80070035)" error. From the research I've done, it looks like an authentication error but I cannot see where its failing. I have tried this several times using both my credentials and the admin credentials. Obviously I am missing something somewhere and its probably something basic. I have attached the smts.log file.

Does anyone have any ideas?

IE 11, .aspx download links, not working

We are in the process of upgrading our workstation environment to IE11. In testing we have sporadically seen where a .aspx forwarded download link (ie all microsoft.com downloads) do not work. On the PC's affected the Open/save/Save as window opens (the pop out, not the toolbar at bottom). Once a selection is made and regardless of selection, the popup closes and nothing happens. Any ideas? I have reset IE settings to default with no change. Rolling back to ie10 it works, reupgrading to 11 breaks it again.

Updating RDP cert to SHA-2

My company is going through an exercise to retire all of the SHA-1 certificates in the environment due to its upcoming EOL date by MSFT. One of the larger pools of devices using a SHA-1 cert are the end user devices, which use a self-signed SHA-1 certificate when using RDP.

Most of the info i've found online so far only discuss how to force this cert to use SHA-1 with registry edits, but nothing about SHA-2. Has anyone gone through this exercise yet? If not you may need to soon. Looking for some technical pointers on how to accomplish this. Also, we currently use the self-signed cert that each device generates when connecting. If i force a new certificate from a domain CA, wouldn't I lose the ability to RDP from non-domain computers?
