bleslie Posted April 25, 2013 Report post Posted April 25, 2013 Earlier this week, after successfully getting the agent installed on all our computers, we started to notice that MANY of the computers run through a scan disk on start up (an entire lab of 18 PCs will do it at the same time). I'm thinking this has to do the the client health evaluation that may be forcing it to do a scan disk, but then I don't understand why it'd be doing it to that many PCs and multiple times (once a day). I'm thinking this may be a solution http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/configure-client-remediation-in-configmgr-2012-to-monitor-only-using-settings-management/ but I was hoping to get a second opinion here. Thanks Ben
Trevor Sullivan Posted April 25, 2013 Report post Posted April 25, 2013 What do you mean by "scan disk?" ConfigMgr doesn't automatically run any type of disk scanning jobs. If you're talking about hardware or software inventory, then you would control those features by using the Client Settings package node in the ConfigMgr console. You would have to create a custom Client Settings package, and then deploy it to a collection of systems that you want to target. bleslie Posted April 30, 2013 Report post Posted April 30, 2013 The clients run scandisk/checkdisk on when the computers boot up. The "disk checking utility" runs to check the disk for errors and takes at least 15 minutes.
Rocket Man Posted April 30, 2013 Report post Posted April 30, 2013 The clients by default do nothing like this.....It takes approx 2-3 mins for the clients to intialize once booted to the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen, so it is not the clients that is causing this it is something else maybe inconsitent HDD? Have you pushed out some type of configuration to these PCs so that next time they boot they will scandisk?
bleslie Posted May 1, 2013 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 I don't even know how to make a configuration that would force a scandisk at start up. This seems be only be affecting a Windows 7 collection, however it doesn't seem to be affecting all PCs in the collection (or at least if it's affecting the other half no one has told me so, or they haven't shutdown and restarted it yet). at this point i'm not even sure if there's a difference when rebooting vs shutting down and turning on the PC. I'd have a tough time believing that this many computers have inconsistent HDs
