  1. I've heard from two people who upgraded to Win8.1 both asking about the same problem. Both are saying the standard mailto: link in web sites isn't working, one reports that using Chrome there is no error message but no email client opens, effectively the mailto: link is dead. In MSIE11 she says: “…it asked me if I wanted to give google permission to open the program, I said yes but it still didn’t give me an email box it just took me to the google web page.” OK I know the fix is (probably) to set the file associations, my concern is if this is going to be the "out of the box" experience for millions of users as they take the 8.1 upgrade? It may be "easy to fix" but few end users will know how and will, initially at least, think it's the websites they visit that have a problem rather than their PC needing a tweak. In fact these two users both reported the issue as "Your website isn't working, I can't use the email address to send an email" rather than realising the problem was with a setting on their PC (and the common factor was they'd both just taken the 8.1 upgrade). Of course it could be simply a coincidence that within a couple of days two people have asked me about the same problem but in 15+ years of daily involvement with Email/Internet I don't recall ever having a query about file association for browser to email client links. Before sounding too many alarm bells: Are any other Win8.1 noobs hitting the same issue?
