Seems my problem was SCCM R2. I downloaded SCCM SP1 and all seems to be installing. YAY! I can handle running updates !!

Setup has encountered fatal errors while performing file opertaions. No matter what I do the setup will not get past the "transfer files" step during installation. I do not know where to look for more details or how to correct. My setup is: 2k8 server (includes all required roles and features) 2k8 sql 2k7 sccm all on one server.
