Hello guru's,

 

I'm having an issue with OSD to newer model computers. Specifically, Dell E5540 and Dell E7440. When I PXE boot the computer it starts to load WinPE and then when it says "Preparing network connections". This is where is reboots without error.

 

Let me start with what I have done...

 

I have injected all of the necessary drivers for both x64 and x86 drivers for each of the different model numbers and updated the DP's. After injecting the drivers I added the driver packages into the TS and OSD rebooted without error after "Preparing network connections". After which, I manually added the drivers into the boot image and updated the DP's again and the same results occurred.

 

From here I'm lost...Can anyone lend a helping hand?

Have you verified that you are getting an IP address at the preparing network connection stage? (this is achieved by having F8 command support enabled on boot.wims)

If you are getting an IP verify that you can communicate with the FQDN of the site server. If you can ping the site server then it could be possible that the BIOS time is incorrect on this particular batch of systems. Check this out, as having the incorrect time and date in the BIOS can cause these symptoms.

I just tried it and cannot ping the site server.

 

 

I take it you don't have an IP address either? ipconfig in command prompt..

 

If not then you will need to sus out the correct NIC drivers for these machines..... perhaps go to the manufacturer site for the drivers as opposed to using the DELL drivers..

And did the drivers inject successfully?

Maybe try it again but this time don't select the option to update the DPs automatically.... you can do this manually afterwards if the injection is successful... I have my doubts that it was successful with the error you have above.

Here is the full report after the injection:

 

Error: Failed to import the following drivers:

  • \\sysmgt\Drivers\Windows 7\E7440\win7\x64\communication\9127G_A00-00\Drivers\SWLOCRM.inf - The selected driver is not applicable to any supported platforms.

 

Success: Add drivers to the following packages:

  • E7440w7x64

 

Success: Packages will be updated on distribution points.

  • E7440w7x64

 

Success: Add drivers to the following boot images:

  • Boot Image x64
  • Boot Image x86

 

Error: All boot image(s) can not be updated on distribution points.

Errors

  • Boot Image x64 - The ConfigMgr Provider reported an error.
  • Boot Image x86 - The ConfigMgr Provider reported an error.

You have separated the different architecture of drivers and injected them accordingly? i:e x86 drivers injected into the x86 boot.wim and x64 into the x64 boot.wim only..

You could try and remove the newly added drivers from the boot.wims and then re-distribute the boot.wims to the DPs. It must be a driver that is causing this error.

Where did you get the drivers from?

After looking through the logs, I found that the driver that I wanted injected, was successful.
