XP to 7 using Hardlinks - Not restoring the hardlink data

Question

Hello everyone, I'm new here but am finding the info very useful. I'm fairly new to SCCM but do use it regularly for imaging machines. I have been given the task of finding a way to upgrade our current XP machines to 7 and preserving the user data, such as documents, pictures, desktop items, etc. I'm using one of the task sequence's I found on this site and have tried it out on an XP machine, and I see that it does copy user data and then it will reboot and install 7, but when I check to see if the user files are on the computer, they are no where to be found...It seems I'm just missing the piece to restore the data and/or is there something you have to do to the image to make it skip the part of the hd that is being used for the backup files? I'm not sure what info you need, but I'll be happy to supply any that I can to get this working. Thanks in advance for your help.

My guess is that you made a little mistake (like a typ-o) in one of the steps or in one of the bat-files. This could easily cause an Incorrect function -error.

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply, but sorry for the delay in getting back to you...I was out of town all last week. I've attached some screen shots to see what is typed in...I'm not seeing anything odd and the batch file, I just copy/pasted it...here it is:

@set USMT_WORKING_DIR=%~2%\USMTbits\x86

"%~2\USMTbits\x86\scanstate.exe" "%~1" /c /o /hardlink /efs:hardlink /nocompress /offlinewindir:c:\windows /v:5 /l:%~2\windows\TEMP\SMSTSLog\scanstate.log /progress:%~2\windows\TEMP\SMSTSLog\scanstateprogress.log /i:%~2\USMTbits\x86\miguser.xml /i:%~2\USMTbits\x86\migapp.xml

Do you see anything that I may be overlooking? Any other suggestions? Thanks again, i really appreciate it.

Here is another part of the log file..It seems to fail at the do x86 scanstate One other question, I'm using the x86 files like in the example but we are using the 64bit version of 7...does that matter since its still on the XP 32bit side of things at this point?
