  1. Hi, I have a multicast OSD TS that I am using to deploy Windows 7 with SCCM 2007 R3. The TS works fine up until the "Install Software" steps. It attempts to install Office 2010 via multicast but just sits there and eventually errors out. I have enabled the same options and checked the same checkboxes as the OS Package as per Steve Rachui's guide at http://blogs.msdn.co...ng-in-sccm.aspx . I have attached a copy of the smsts.log from the client PC. (C:\windows\syswow64\ccm\logs\smstslog). I've searched for the error in the log and also any info on installing software via an OSd task sequence, but could not find anything pertaining to the issue I'm having. Other people have had issues with multicast deployments but not with the 0x80004005 error that I am receiving in my smsts.log. I have created a separate TS, software and OS packages for multicast deployment as when I was trying to unicast to one machine only for some other testing I was doing, it was always try and use multicast even though the Task sequence and advertisement did not have only transfer via multicast" checked. I don't know if this is the right way to go about it, and any best practice advice would be greatly appreciated. I guess first off I need to ask, can software be installed via a multicast OSD task sequence? And if so, am I going the right way about doing it? (Just so I'm not wasting any more of my time if it can't even be done ) Cheers, Pete Edit: I just realised that in my smsts.log, it is failing on Acrobat Reader X install not Office 2010 as mentioned above. This is because I disabled the Install Office 2010 step, and re-ran the TS to see if it was just the office package that had an issue, but it also fails on the Acrobat Reader X install with exactly the same error.. smsts.log
  2. Hi, I recently set up multicast on our SCCM 2007 R3 server (Windows 2008 Standard SP2 64-bit) as per the guide by Steve Rachui - http://blogs.msdn.co...ng-in-sccm.aspx Everything is working as far as multicasting, but I wanted to turn multicasting off so I could run some OSD TS tests on a single machine (as I find unicasting to be faster, even when only multicasting to a single machine). I unchecked the Enable multicasting box in the ConfigMgr console under Site Settings-->SCCM Server-->Configmgr Distribution Point and then restart the WDS service via services.msc, but now the WDS service then fails to restart and gives the following error in Event Viewer. Log Name: Application Source: WDSServer Date: 12/28/2011 12:35:51 PM Event ID: 257 Task Category: WDSServer Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: SCCM Server Description: An error occurred while trying to start the Windows Deployment Services server. Error Information: 0x7E If I re-enable multicasting, I can successfully start the WDS service. I have tried restarting the SCCM server, but the issue still remains. I have tried searching the error but nothing pertains to SCCM specifically. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.
  3. Hi, First time poster, but have been regularly using this site for tips and guides, so I'd just like to start off by saying thanks to everyone for such a helpful site on SCCM I am trying to capture a bare metal machine to use for deployment using the Build and Capture TS on SCCM 2007 SP2 R3. I have created a Win7 Pro SP1 OS Install package, have imported the Intel 82579LM x64 NIC driver into SCCM for my ref machine (HP Pro 6200 small form factor desktop) and also added the driver to the x64 boot image I am using for the task sequence. The task sequence looks to run fine up until the Capture the Reference Machine-->Prepare OS step which fails with a 0x00000002 error. Having looked at the smsts.log file on the ref machine in the c:\windows\syswow64\ccm\logs\smstslog\smsts.log, it looks like it cannot load the boot image again. I'm a little confused as the TS loads the boot image initially to kick off the task sequence? I have attached the smsts.log file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've only been using SCCM for about 1 month now, so the learning curve has been steep but fun! Thanks, Pete smsts.log
