  1. Hey Guys! We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 for a while now, everything was ok. But now, I have at least one site (the rest I could not check up to now) where I can not import prestaged content. I use extractcontent.exe and I always get: <![LOG[]LOG]!><time="16:15:35.675-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="log.cpp:78"> <![LOG[Begin ====> Thu Aug 29 2013 16:15:35]LOG]!><time="16:15:35.745-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="log.cpp:79"> <![LOG[The following parameters were passed on command line: ]LOG]!><time="16:15:35.745-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="extract.cpp:263"> <![LOG[ /P - Full path to a prestaged file or to a folder containing one or more such files: 'D:\SOURCES\VORAB\20130821\OS_Windows_8_Enterprise_ohne_Hyper-V_LPZ0004B.pkgx']LOG]!><time="16:15:35.745-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="extract.cpp:266"> <![LOG[ /F - Force prestaging of content even when it already exists on the site]LOG]!><time="16:15:35.745-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="extract.cpp:285"> <![LOG[Detecting if a distribution point role exists on this machine]LOG]!><time="16:15:35.749-120" date="08-29-2013" component="PrestageContent" context="" type="1" thread="5048" file="archivefile.cpp:999"> <![LOG[Detected a co-located distribution point on this site server. 2. Hello Folks! I have a problem. We have 6 primary sites and one central site (please don't ask why). On one of the primary sites, I created severeal content (apps, packages and task sequences). Now, the link between this primary site and the cas was down for a while. Today, I fixed the link and the replication connection between the PS and the CAS came back. A little later, I wanted to check, if the "new" content was replicated from PS to CAS - it was not. And on top of this, this stuff is now missing on the PS, too!! Have you ever seen this? Is there a way to fix it / get the stuff back? THANKS! BR, Haiko
  3. Hello all together! I've got a question regarding hostnames after OSD: When I install a client via OSD/Tasksequence with WIndows 8, it get's it's hostname from SCCM (i.e. it uses the name, that is uses as machine name while I imported that machine to SCCM). If I install a machine with Server 2012, it get's hostname like "WIN-XYZ123". What do I have to do that a Server 2012 machine get's it's hostname from SCCM, too? Thanks so far! Haiko Btw.: All I want is a hostname that is equal to the MAC of the device!
  4. Hello Niall! Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, USB-Media is not really an option. So how about my observations? Is it normal, that PXE won't work, if Sec. Site looses its connection to Pri. Site?? Thanks!
  5. SCCM2007 had the Proxy Management Point, which did the processing of policies for clients assigned to the secondary site. In SCCM2012 there is no Proxy MP anymore (should not be any need either). But whgy is it not working in my lab? What do I have to do? I want to be able to deploy OS in secondary site's range (branch office) with no need to have the client or the secondary site server communuicate with primary site over WAN (slow link and we want to have a usable system even in case of broken WAN-links). So what is wrong? What do I have to do? THANKS!
  6. So I can not use PXE while connection to Management Point is down, right? But why does the same problem occur, when using Primary Site and Secondary Site? (Client is assigned to Secondary Site which is online and reachable, but connection to Primary Site is down (even for SecSite))?
  7. Looks like the same happens with PS and SS. Client can PXE-boot from MP on SS as long as link to PS is ok. Link dead = no PXE-boot from MP on Secondary Site. What is wrong here?
  8. Hey Kingen! I've set up a lab for this with a PS and a DP. DP can do OSD as long as the connection to the PS is OK. As soon as the connection to DP dies, Clients can't boot PXE any more. Is this normal?? Thanks so far...
  9. Hey Guys. First, thanks for your opinions. The version with just a PS in HQ and DPs in Branch-Offices gets me headache. The VPN-links are via ADSL, so they could fail anytime and the are asynchronous and slow (16MBit downlink, 1-2MBit uplink). At least OSD is critical for us, as we have to roll out PCs in every location every week on a single day. We are re-installing all our classroom PCs at least once, sometimes twice a week. If the link fails, we can't do anything as the connection to MPs is broken at this time. So there is either "Single PS in HQ and SecSite on every Branchoffice" or "CAS and PS in HQ, PS in every Branchoffe" What made me think about a central CAS and PS on every site is the thinking about similar situation: With just SecSites on the Branch-Offices and no connection between one of them and their PS, we can not set any changes as (AFAIK) the SecSites get all their configuration from their parent PS. Or am I wrong? A PS in Hierarchy could still be configured and managed on it's own, even if the connection to CAS is broken, doesn't it? What WORKS and what DOEST NOT if we choose to have a single PS and just SecSites in the branchoffice an either: - Link between branchoffe and HQ fails or - PS or other part of architecture in HQ fails ?? Could you please give me some hints? Thanks a lot!
  10. I forgot to mentiion, that each site has approx. 25 clients to manage...
  11. Hello at all! I have a question about what would be the "best" topology design for our purpose. First of all, I want to give you a short idea of our network. We have 6 offices in the country, all connected trough Site-to-Site-VPNs. I wan't to manage (mostly install) clients (via OSD) on a weekly base (We are MS Learning Partner and want to set up our classroom computers via OSD Tasklists). I have a server on each site that could uses for SCCM. Memory Considerations and licensing is nearly no fact that influences our decission. So I think there are two options: 1.) One CAS and a Pri-SIte on our headquarter and one Pri-Site on each other site. 2.) One Pri-Site on our headquarter and one Sec-Site on the rest of the sites What would you recommend? What is "best practice" and why? Technically, option 2 would be sufficient.
  12. Ok, but how could I use that inside my Task-Sequence? I would have a command inside my tasksequence like "xcopy \\SERVER\SHARE\Files.xyz C:\FOLDER\". Therefor I need the SERVER-Name which is the Hostname of the Site-Server itself (single primary site). Other option for me would be to use an DNS alias in the task sequences so that all task sequences could use the same UNC-Path and inside the site i use an alias that uses this Alias-Name to point to the real hostname...
  13. Could you pls explain that a little more in detail?? Thank you!!
