  1. I have done some more research on my problem and it is going to Active directory fine but it is not recognizing any new computers on Active directory. I know how to add them manually but I thought that it collected anything in the OUs specified even if they were not in SCCM yet. When I add them Manually In the Agent Name I get "Manual Machine Entry", The ones that are already in have agent name SMS_AD_SYSTEM_DISCOVERY_AGENT,MP_ClientRegistration,Heartbeat Discovery. I guess I am not sure how to discover new systems.
  2. Thank you for your post I do not have that log file. I do have two log files under the AdminUILog folder. SmsAdminUI.log and CreateTsMedia.log It is very strange I have 5 OU locations that I am monitoring and 4 are working fine and one is not. I have made no changes to Active directory structure or to SCCM.
  3. I have my device collections checking once a day to update the devices from active directory. Over the last couple weeks it seems to have stopped checking or failing somehow. Is there a log file somewhere that I can check to see if it is even attempting? Thank you in advance. Mark
  4. I posted this in the wrong spot. I meant for this to appear in the sccm list not the scom. This post can be moved or deleted and I will re enter it.
  5. I have an update group called windows 7 security updates. Every month I delete the expired updates, download the new updates and then assign the new ones to the group. Is this the recommended way or should I create a new group every month. I am questioning this because I am not sure which updates are installed and which ones fail since it gives the complete group installation percentage instaed of a per security update percentage. Or is there a way to monitor the individual members of an update group. Thanks for any opinions on this Mark
  6. I have a rule for Endpoint protection. It has stopped checking for Software updates. If I right click and "Run Now" it gets them. I have not touched the rule since I put it in over a year ago.

    createmedia.exe

Does anyone out there have experience with the command line createmedia.exe. We need to install images on computers that are not on the network and making DVD's has been working great. I just read an article on createmedia.exe to get around the cd/dvd size limit and it creates the image but when I deploy it I get an 80070241 error. Since I have discovered error numbers are useless in SCCM I have learned to use the log files. My first question is. 1) Does anyone know sure where the log file is created on the stand alone pc I am trying to image. I have a feeling I have a switch wrong. I have found this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj155402.aspx where it list the switches but there is only a very short description. example /M is "Size of selected media, units" Should this number the exact size of the image? The size of the USB drive I am trying to put it on? Does it need to be exact or just larger than the image? My second question is 2) Does anyone know where a more descriptive list of switches is? Thank you in advance Mark

    SCCMContentLib

It appears to be a bit bloated. Is there a way to verify that cleanup is happening?
  9. diclosure statment. I am the SCCM person where I work but I dont have much time to work with it so sometimes I feel like I am using a hammer to install screws but here is another approach. I have not been using the task sequence to deploy office. We have all identical computers. We configured a single computer exactly like we want it. With Office and any other app. Then using a CD that sccm 2012 created we create a WIM file. Software Library->Operating Systems ->(right click on)Task Sequence ->Create Task Sequence Media->Capture media->CD/DVD set(then name the Media file)->select boot media and distribution point then after the media is created you will need to burn a cd or dvd and use that to create a WIM file from the computer you just configured. !!!! A word of warning. Once you create the WIM file using the CD you will destroy the image currently on the computer and if something is wrong you will have to start over. The first time I did this I redid the image about 5 or 6 times. I am getting a bit better now. The WIM file is stored on the machine you used to create the WIM file. this file is uploaded to a location on SCCM and it is used to create an Operating System Image. The Operating system image is then used to make a Task Sequence. I have tried many alternate processes but this has been the most reliable. I would love to hear if others disagree and where. Anything I can do to make my process smoother is appreciated.

    SCCMContentLib

Is there a way to manually clean up this directory? I read somewhere that the PkgLib files refer to DataLibfiles which then refer to FileLib files. I am hoping that if A FileLib folder does not contain a referenc back to the PkgLib file that I can safely remove it? Thanks in advance Mark
  11. I am starting to establish update groups and I was wondering how to group the updates. When the updates come out on the selected Tuesday should I group them all in one big update or break them up by Product or by Classification? I know I am able to do whatever I want but I have not been able to find anything relating to this from Microsoft. I have also wondered about deploying to groups. I usally break it into three groups. First the labs then lower level employees then finally execs. I do this over a two week span. I dont know that I am really looking for opinions. I think I am looking for some documentation from Microsoft on update group deployment best practices.
  12. I am a bit confused on this topic. The book i have says "Each update is only downloaded once and stored in one deployment package, ensuring that content is not duplicated throughout the infrastructure." I have two deployment packages with the same Security Updates in them. One of them I originally created and the other one is updated through an Automatic Deployment Rule. If I deleted both of them could I recreate the Automatic Deployment Rule and download the updates again? Thanks Mark
  13. Thank you for the reply. My concern is two years down the road when I need to find this information. I think I am going to start some sort of naming convention along with good documentation. Thanks again Mark
  14. I created a windows update deployment package. Now I have shifted and I am using Automatic Deployment Rules for some of the updates. I would like to create a new deployment package for the updates that I want to deploy manually. Can I delete a deployment package or will I delete the updates along with the package? I purchased Microsoft System Center 2012 unleashed but I can't find anything in it about this. Does anyone recommend another book title?(Maybe this should be another topic) Thanks Mark
  15. I have a couple automatic deployment rules created. I have them linked to existing deployment packages. As I add more rules and more packages I think I will need a way to see what package the rule is adding to. Does anyone know where you can see what deployment package an automatic deployment rule is adding to? Thank you Mark
