Also, different network card drivers perhaps? I had problems like that in the past and it turned out to be a simple network card driver that needed adding to the PXE boot image.

I currently have SCCM2012R2 installed on Windows Server 2008R2 and a SQL Server 2008R2 instance installed on a separate Windows Server 2008R2. I would like to Install a new SCCM 2012R2 on a new Windows Server 2012R2 that will also run a SQL server 2012 instance on the same server and have a new site code. I'm not too worried about the current data that I have in the current SCCM 2012R2 Server. I can set up all the automatic deployment roles and all my OSD task sequences all over again that is not the problem. What I wanted to know is what is the best way of pointing all my current clients to the new SCCM 2012R2 Server that will have the new site code? Group Policy? I will be going from SCCM 2012R2 to SCCM 2012R2 so the current client on all workstations will be the same version as the new Server with the new site code. What are best practices when attempting this? Has anybody done this yet?

Has anybody successfuly upgraded their SCCM2012R2 Server operating system from Server 2008R2 to Server 2012R2? I have gone through the process of upgrading my Configuration Manager from 2012-->2012SP1-->2012R2 but it's still running on Server 2008R2 and using SQL Server 2008R2 as it's database on a seperate server. I'm just wondering what implications that would cause to do an in-place upgrade of the server OS from 2008R2 to 2012R2? I'm worried about a whole jump in IIS versions too since we are heavy users of the Application Catalogue. Has anybody done this soft of upgrade before?

Looks like a bug at this stage. Microsoft has also changed the process so for some unknown reason you also need to activate windows 8.1 before you can change the lock screen

Hi All, Does anybody know how to change the default windows 8.1 lock screen to a custom image? I know in windows 8 you needed to create the following registry Key which you could run via SCCM 2012 at the end of your task sequence but this doesn't seem to work anymore in Windows 8.1 anymore. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization] "LockScreenImage"="C:\backgrounds\backgroundDefault.jpg" Does anybody know the registry key and how to apply a custom lock screen to windows 8.1?

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anybody else has also come across this problem too. I have 2 particular model computers that automatically enter into an "Automatic Repair Loop" during random stages of a task sequence of Windows 8 deployment. The apps are fully compatible with windows 8 and working perfectly fine when imaging another model with different drivers. I have also not applied any drivers either thinking a driver could be causing this problem but no luck, still entering into automatic repair loop. oddly enough as soon as I select a windows 7 WIM file for that task sequence it runs all the way through with no problems. I have no idea what could be causing this since all of our other model laptops image just fine with exactly the same task sequence, windows 8 and the only exception being a different driver package. has anybody come across this before? Ok so i have 2 test lab sites and 1 production site and after upgrading Sccm 2012 to Sccm 2012 SP1 its completely killed my PXE Boot. after going thorugh SMSPXE.log i keep getting the following error: RequestMPKeyInformation: Send() failed. PXE::MP_InitializeTransport failed; 0x80004005 SMSPXE PXE::MP_ReportStatus failed; 0x80004005 PXE::CPolicyProvider::InitializeMPConnection failed; 0x80004005 I have seen similar errors around but none of the solutions have worked for me so far. Whats strange is prior to the SP1 Update everything worked perfectly so what could the service pack have done to cause this? I have tried the following: Removed WDS, Removed DP, Removed MP Deleted RemoteInstall, SCCMCOntentLib, SMSPKG, SMSPKGE$, SMSPKGSIG, SMSSIG$ Re-added WDS, Re-added MP & DP. Reconfigured DP etc etc Re-Created Boot images with drivers and updated DP points countless times and still no go Anyone else experience the same thing? Could this be permission issue? I have tried sooo many different things and nothing has resolved it so far? I dont know what else I can try since it was working perfectly 2 days ago prior to this SP1 update

Yeah I upgraded to SP1 and have 2 working test lab sites and 1 production site, one of my test labs does exactly what you described above, the other doesnt and they're identical so go figure that out.

Also having the same problem after updating from sccm 2012 to sccm 2012 SP1, it was working fine prior to the update. Has anybody been able to resolve the 0xc0000098 error during Boot PXE?

Ok you cannot remove an Application or a Package that was directly deployed to a device collection, once it's deployed to that device collection it appears that it's there for the life of that collection. I have however found a way around that, all you do is create a "Custom Task Sequence" and add in a particular application (or as many applications/packages as you like) and that way you can specify when that task sequence is available or you can even create a folder and manually disable it whenever you like so this basically answers my whole question and is exactly what I was after Sorry what do you mean when you're referring to baseline variables on the collections??? I have divided up the collections quite a bit and i have created a lot of 'location based' collections so that's all good. All and All i'd like to just keep it simple and have location based collections and Class based collections for the devices that kids have. My images will be quite static and I will only be deploying a few new Applications throughout the year but as you can imagine in a school type environment that's full of kids there will be laptop re-imaging going on almost on a daily basis. My AD is based on 2 major OU's, 1 for servers and 1 for workstations so all of my workstations are in the 1 OU (Desktops, Laptops, Slates etc etc) hence why i have to create different collections in SCCM to separate everything. I know doing a direct import of all computers to device collections is a lot of work but once its done once and properly then you have all your device collections nicely set out. Why do you think that its a bad idea?

Anyone Please??? Doing a bit of reading I've also discovered a few other problems. In a perfect world sure making software "Available" to users to Install/Uninstall as they wish is a great thing but since I work in an educational facility making software "Available" is not an option since I know Kids will just uninstall software packages all the time just to get out of class and play dumb that so and so is not working. Deploying an Application and making it "Required" will install it but it will install it on a whole device collection and it will be attached to that device collection for life which is not what i want. So what actually happens when you have 300 computers in a device collection and you want to deploy a few different Applications to only a few different machines only but not the whole collection? Do you have to create a new device collection and do a direct computer import every time you want to install an application on one machine only? Surely there has to be a better way of doing things since that way you can end up with 100 new device collections every week. Is there a way of installing an application on a single computer in a large device collection ONCE ONLY so that after install it disappears from software center on a client PC and there's NO option to uninstall it??? Targeting specific users instead of computers is good in theory but in practice its a mess if you have a few different brand computers.

Is there a way to hide Installed Applications from users in Software Center on client computers after they are deployed? I know you can hide OS notifications after installation by checking the "Disable this task sequence on computers where it is deployed" or just selecting different OS in Task sequence properties but is there a way to just hide all applications once the user has installed them? i dont want to give the users the option of "Uninstall" then re-install the applications over and over after i've deployed them via Software Center.

Just have a question in regards to creating Applications/Packages and inserting them in a Task Sequence. So you obviously have your easy MSI installers (which you can install in a Group of 9 I think it is at the most) and you have your Exe Apps that you can create packages for and use the Silent Installer switches they come with etc etc So my question is, is it generally good practise to add the "Restart Computer" function after installing each and individual application in a task sequence or does that really depend on the application? How often do you guys use the "Restart Computer" function in a task sequence?

There is no quick or easy way. Log into the current OS into each one individually, bring up command prompt and get the SMBIOS GUID for all 800 slates. I know it sounds like a painful process and it will be i'm sure but it shouldnt take longer then a day and worth it in the long run

it's ok, i've woked it out. you can use the Mac address obviously but you can also use the SMBIOS GUID unique ID of any PC to import it into SCCM and create your device collections. Anyway problem solved thanks

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem before when deploying Slate PC's with Docks. Basically I need to deploy Windows 7 to 800 Slates but my problem is that they come with Docks where the network adapter is stored (and hence the Mac Address). As you can imagine docks will be swapped and switched around all the time. Config Manager depends on the mac address from the Dock to give the device a computer name etc etc. So my question is, is there a way of creating a device collection without relying on the Mac address??? have anybody faced this problem before? any ideas will really be appreciated.

Hi Guys, First of all great forum and great guides, i've learned soo much just reading through this site. Basically I've created 2 SCCM 2012 RTM test environments, 1 at work and another at home. one at work works great and the one at home is very problematic. Basically I keep on getting Task Sequence errors when I try and deploy my Win 7 OSD task sequence. I've even deleted the whole SCCM 2012 server and re-installed it on another virtual Hyper-V guest and I still get errors. I've been able to capture an image successfully but I get a task sequence (0x80091007) error whilst trying to deploy it to an imported Hyper-V guest client. when i go to monitoring and click on the Deployments section it gives me a 11170 error and says TS failed to deploy. 90% of all the (0x80091007) errors seem to relate to a HASH Sccm 2007 error but after looing at smsts.log file (Attached) HASH seems to match.
