  1. Hi I am trying to hide the "Network security key" in my wireless network properties security page via GPO by following the instructions available at http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/68280-any-way-mask-hide-wifi-keys.html) but having no luck. Anyone got any other idea to mask the wireless keys? thanks .
  2. rebooting the server fixed my problem
  3. Hi I have SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 + MDT 2010 (Integrated). I currently have five TSs for OS deployment (TSs created by using the "Create Microsoft Deployment Task Sequence" wizard). All five TSs are working fine and out of five, two TSs that I created I acutally duplicated the existing one and just pointed them to a different OS Image. I just duplicated another TS and pointed it to another OS image. Advertised this TS (just like anyother TS) but when I PXE boot a PC I only see five TSs. First I thought that it is just a matter of giving it some time to replicate, so I tried again after a day or so but I still do not see the sixth TS. So is there a limit on the number of OSD related TSs that I am not aware of? thanks
  4. Hi I have Windows 7 Enterprise (32bit) PC at work with two 19" monitors (screen resolution 1280 x 1024 on each). The display is extended. My home PC is a Win 7 Ultimate (32bit) on a Laptop, screen resolution 1280 x 800. On my work PC I keep some apps open (for example, IE, Outlook etc) on primary monitor and some (like Word, Excel, Adobe etc)on the secondary monitor. The problem is after I RDP from home to my Work PC and then when I get to work all my apps are re-positioned to my Primary monitor. I have tried several things like change the screen resolution on both work and home PCs, changed the primary/secondary monitors etc but Windows 7 just does not seem to remember the last application windows position after the RDP connection is made and disconnected. I also tried the Desktop Layout Restor utility but it only restores the Desktop icons and not the applications window position. Any help in this regards is greatly appreciated.
  5. Look for the computer name in "All Systems" collection and delete it, then try again (you might have to "Clear Last PXE Adv....on All Unknow collection). At one point I had to delete the computer by using the MAC address as deleting the computer by name did not work.

    Slow Performance

Hi I've been trying to find the root cause of slowness of some computers (Win XP) that happened last week within my environment. I've been going through the event viewer and firewall logs of those particular computers (for a particular date and particular time range). I have not found anything on those computers yet but I was wondering if there is any other log files (any registry settings etc) that I should look for that could provide me any useful information about the slowness. thanks in advance
  7. just curious if you added a distribution point to your sysprep package
  8. well, I resolved two of my issues (Problem 2 & 3). The fix for problem 2 was to disable the "Apply Windows Settings" under "PostInstall" of the TS and uncheck the "Use an unattended or sysprep answer file....." option under the "Install/Refresh Only/Apply Operating System Image" The fix for problem 3 was http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1133-setting-computername-during-deployment/ So the only unresolved mystery is problem 1. I tried almost everything mentioned in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/bf4b9f5b-0d65-4668-8eb6-167aa6262e9d but nothing worked...
  9. SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 + MDT 2010 Integrated OS being deployed is Windows XP SP3 (wim file). This image is created manually and sysprep is run before manually capturing the wim file. Task Sequence (Created using "create Microsoft Deployment Task Sequence" wizard) ***************************************************************************** Problem 1: After the PXE boot I see this window Title: Task Sequence Wizard Message: The media is not password protected. Please click next to continue. I have added SkipBDDWelcome=YES in both Bootstrap.ini and CustomSettings.ini but it did not help, I still see this window ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** Problem 2: Title: Error Message: Setup was unable to change the password for user account Administrator. Please enter the desired password again. I have SkipAdminPassword=YES in CustomSettings.ini file and in Sysprep.inf file I have the following: [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="p@ssword" OEMSkipWelcome=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=020 AutoLogon="Yes" AutoLogonCount=999 but I am getting the above mentioned error ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** Problem 3: After I click "OK" on the error described in "Problem 2" I see the "Computer Name and Administrator Password" window where I should be able to rename the computer account but it only stays up for some seconds and I am unable to rename the default computer name "MINI-random" to my desired name. In CustomSettings.ini I have SkipComputerName=NO and in Sysprep.inf file I have: [userData] ;ComputerName= ***************************************************************************** I also tried the SCCM built-in "Client Task Sequence" but same results thanks
  10. I am so sorry. I will post my question in the XP forum
  11. I just want to mention one more thing is that when I created my MDT Deploy task sequence, it asked for the settings package and I pointed it to the one that I had created before. This package only had two files "CustomSettings.ini" and "Unattend.xml" file. It did not have "Sysprep.inf" file, so I copied the sysprep.inf to this settings package folder and in my MDT Task sequence (under the Install\Apply Operating System Image" node) I manually typed-in the file name "sysprep.inf" as it was blank. SO I am not sure if this what is causing all these issues. thanks
  12. I tried the SCCM built-in task sequence too but same results.....thanks

  14. Thank you so much Peter....I was looking under the Task Sequence properties to disable that.
  15. So, how do I make them non-mandatory...thanks
  16. Hi I have SCCM 2007 (SP2, R2) and MDT 2010 (Integrated) on a Windows 2008 server. Initially I had one Task Sequence created to deploy Windows 7 (32bit) by using the "Create Microsoft Deployment Task Sequence" and selecting "Clent Task Sequence". This is a very basic task sequence but it works. I just added another Task Sequence to deploy Windows XP SP3 image by using the same steps as mention above but when it gets to a point to load the image, all I see is a window popping up with a long message similar to "Windows 7 32bit image will be installed in 170 seconds..........." I was under the impression that I would see an option to select which image I need to load but I do not see any such option. It defaults to Windows 7 image even though I want to deploy a Win XP image. I have Cleared the Last PXE Advertisement "from All Unknown Computers" several times. Deleted and re-created the Win XP SP3 Task Sequence twice but same result. Any ideas? thanks
  17. I did add NIC drivers to both 32/64 bit boot images and updated the distribution point. However I did not check the "Enable command....." option....I will do that and try again.....thanks
  18. Admins....please delete this post as I was trying last night but I was getting Windows-noob Database error.....but I just noticed that this was posted successfully ....thanks

  21. Well, after my 10th attempt of sypreping it finally worked and this is what I did: 1: The OS time clock was two hours behind so I corrected the time 2: Ran the slmgr.vbs -rearm command (did not activate the Windows manually) 3: Removed the <SkipRearm> command from unattend.xml file 4: Changed the value "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\SkipRearm" to 1 (Note: there were two locations where I changed the "SkipRearm" reg value before running the sysprep but now I only see one location) and to be honest I am not sure if the combination of all four steps fixed the problem or just one or two...but the problem is fixed. thanks
  22. forgot to attach the file ...sorry sysprep_error.zip
  23. OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit HW: HP 8100 Elite Small Form Factor I am trying to run sysprep on Windows 7 Ent 64bit computer and I am getting this error: "A fatal error occured while trying to sysprep the machine" A little background of this Image:I installed Windows 7 Ent 64bit from a Microsoft DVD, installed my applications etc, ran the sysprep, created a WIM file and named it Win7_ent_64bit_Sales.wim. No issues in creating this image. Now I am trying to create another image (lets say for HR Dept that will have HR specific applications) using Win7_ent_64bit_Sales.wim and I do not get any issues in deploying this image to the same hardware. When I try to run sysprep on this image using the following command I get the above mentioned error: c:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /unattend:unattend.xml (BTW, I used the same command and same unattend file (without the SkipRearm switch) when I created my first Win7_ent_64bit_Sales.wim image) Contents of unattend.xml file: ******************************************************* <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend"> <settings pass="specialize"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile> <SkipRearm>0</SkipRearm> </component> </settings> <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="catalog:e:/sources/install_windows 7 enterprise.clg" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" /> </unattend> ******************************************************* I have disabled the Windows Media center Share *** service I tried <SkipRearm>1</SkipRearm> in the unattend.xml file I tried with and without activating the Windows I tried running "cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -rearm" before running sysprep I tried double clicking on "sysprep.exe" and selecting "Enter system Audit Mode" and "Generalize" I tried with the computer joined to the domain and without I removed the "Realtek Audio Drivers" but nothing worked...attached are the log and xml files from c:\windows\system32\sysprep. Any help is appreciated...
  24. very good question Yes I am using using the 32 bit image. In the "Windows Deployment Services" under Boot Images I have the "Lite Touch Windows PE (x86)" image. And just to try out, I also checked the x64 option in the Dpolyment Points properties (under the Platforms Supported section), ran the update, re-pointed to x64 boot image in WDS but that did not work either. So I repointed to x86 boot image and deleted the x64 boot image. thanks
  25. No I have not and since it is a production environment, ugrade of MDT server to 2010 is not possible at this time. thanks
