  1. A little background first: Server1: SCCM/WSUS/PXE/AllRoles (2007 R3 Native Mode) Server2: SQL Server Server3: Test SCVMM 2012 Several BDPs that just replicate data for branch offices. This week I noticed we were having problems with OSD and WSUS. Right around this same time a coworker and I were toying with SCVMM 2012 and its Windows Update features for the fabric. Soon after our WSUS content grew to 125GB and we found the settings to properly integrate SCVMM into SCCM/WSUS. My coworker deleted the wsus content folder and we moved WSUS content to a new folder...seems to be working well at this point. Later we found that OSD didn't work and would fail at the task sequence section with the error "Failed to run task sequence 0x80072EFE". I found the certificates in IIS for the SSL site was set to none. I set it to the server cert and it worked for a few hours. Then our hardware tech had a problem with one TS so went to delete the advertisement and recreate it. Now we can't use any OSD features and see the following error on the client SMSTS.log: "An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer 0x80004005". I don't get an IP and it appears the NIC driver isn't in the boot image any longer. I tried to update the boot image with a driver but still failed. Then I found this link: http://blogs.technet...0x80004005.aspx It says to recreate the boot media but I'm not 100% sure how to do this. Our SCCM environment was configured by a consultant who is no longer available to us because of a non-compete contract. I get to the part where I need to create the task sequence media, choose bootable media, give it a media file path (I think I did this right) but on the next step it asks for a cert. I don't know where this cert would be and if I can export it from the SCCM server. Any help would be awesome and in the meantime I will keep looking at the server...Sorry for such a long post. TL;DR - missing boot media, not sure where cert is to import. Edit: Read this: http://technet.micro...y/bb632961.aspx I can't export any cert with a private key on two workstations or servers. I'm trying more but figured I'd update the OP to let someone know I tried this.
  2. I'm trying to install the SMP role on our remote site servers that already function as a BDP. Technet says the SMP role requires IIS but I wasn't sure which roles of IIS it requires. I don't want to install more functions of IIS than I need to and hoped someone has already done this. Most of our remote BDPs are also domain controllers if that matters and they don't have IIS installed. Thanks! Technet link I saw prior to posting this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693655.aspx
  3. Thanks for the reply...Right now I don't have a number of computers that are replaced at sites with a DP. I just created the SMP for our primary site and trying to get the capture to work but I keep getting failures (I'll post the error below). I've thought about doing the following, and some you mentioned: 1) At HQ, use capture/restore TS 2) Remote sites with DP - see #1 3) Remote sites without a BDP - create a script for using USMT to transfer the profile to new computer. Both new and old computers will be with the user so as long as they're on the network we think the script should be enough. Does anyone have a good example of this type of script (just so I don't reinvent the wheel)? USMT Capture TS Failure: My computer is my test. We have SCCM 2007 R3 SP2 on one server. I just found out about the hotifx to get the client to .2157 but that didn't help (both sccm and client are on the same client level now). The error I get in smsts.log is: Failed to run the last action: Capture User State. Execution of task sequence failed. The printer is out of paper. (Error: 8007001C; Source: Windows) I found this link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/configmgrosd/thread/a84df39d-dd55-4a88-a904-d046d358128c which has some of my issues but I still haven't gotten the capture TS to work. Unfortunately I'm a complete noob to this part so I could be doing something stupid. My computer is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. Are there any required hotfixes/patches that I may have missed?
  4. I've been using SCCM 2007 R2 for a few months and it's worked well for what we need it to do. We've done a lot of imaging successfully but our company has decided to refresh many computers very quickly. Most of these computers will be shipped to remote users and we only have a central site, 10 DPs and many small offices/home users. Since our SCCM had been set up by a consultant I did not have to learn much about USMT/MDT. So here's where I have a question: What's the best way to deploy lots of computers while saving user data? So far we image the computer at our corporate office but since the majority of users are going to be across the WAN we thought about using USMT when we ship the laptop to the user. We've already been told that we the users are not going to ship their old computer back to save their data. Is there a good way to script USMT or another migration tool? Thanks
  5. I have looked around but not found anything and I'm not great with the reports. I'd like to find a list of servers/clients that don't have a page file on the OS drive in case of a BSOD. Has anyone created anything like this?
  6. I recently realized that some of our computers have long names (>15 characters). Is there a way to determine or query how many computers have a name that is greater than 14 characters?
  7. I've got SCCM 2007 R3 + WSUS + SUP on one server, SQL is on another. I am install Forefront to many remote sites and some of those have a DP. I've followed the following link to try to use the DP's for updating Forefront: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/automatically-deploying-forefront-endpoint-protection-updates-via-system-center-configuration-manager.aspx The problem I have is the advertisement keeps failing because it can't find the files associated with the application. I have the directories configured and the script runs fine but if I run the cmd.exe /c "%processorarchitecture%\mpam-d.exe" command on my computer it returns a value of "AMD64", not x64. I would like to use my DP's if possible to reduce bandwidth back to our primary site. Has anyone done this successfully? Thanks
