  1. I've got an issue where some servers that were migrated from Hyper-V to VMware are still showing as Hyper-V and others that were originally built in VMware showing as Physical. Is SCCM not capable of detecting VMware? Please see image..
  2. Here's what I have in place currently. Dedicated WSUS server that only downloads updates for servers. AD Groups labeled "SRVGRP1-8" which are tied to Group Policies for each that determine when or if the machines are rebooted automatically. Maintenance windows seem to be a confusing issue and I know that "Server Groups" which was released as a pre-release feature in 1606 was supposed to help with that but I'd rather not tie myself to a pre-release feature. I'm on 1610 and wary of upgrading to 1702 due to all the issues I've read about. I guess it boils down to whether it's worth the time spent to set this up in SCCM or leave it as is. Anyone gone through similar?

  4. Hi All, I am currently managing a production SCCM R2 CU2 server with an SQL 2012 site database server and reporting services point and I have the Site System status for the SQL component server role listed as critical under System Status\Site Status. I suspect its a bug but I just want to get some confirmation. There are no errors or warnings going back weeks when view the "Messages" associated with it. I've also checked the sitestat and statesys logs and the ONLY errors I have are listed below: sitestat.log ---->: Unable to get the file system information for: \\DP1\E$\; error = 67. Not adding this volume to site object list. SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER 29/09/2014 9:00:00 AM 4664 (0x1238) ---->: Unable to get the file system information for: \\DP2\E$\; error = 67. Not adding this volume to site object list. SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER 29/09/2014 9:00:01 AM 4664 (0x1238) ---->: Unable to get the file system information for: \\DP3\D$\; error = 67. Not adding this volume to site object list. SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER 29/09/2014 9:00:02 AM 4664 (0x1238) ---->: Unable to get the file system information for: \\DP4\A$\; error = 67. Not adding this volume to site object list. SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER 29/09/2014 9:00:02 AM 4664 (0x1238) ---->: Unable to get the file system information for: \\DP4\D$\; error = 67. Not adding this volume to site object list. SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER 29/09/2014 9:00:02 AM 4664 (0x1238) These are just SCCM looking for drives on the DP and not finding it. sitesys.log Started task 'Update NAP Restriction Error Summary' SMS_STATE_SYSTEM 29/09/2014 8:06:20 AM 8336 (0x2090) Task 'Update NAP Restriction Error Summary' completed successfully after running for 15 seconds, with status 0. SMS_STATE_SYSTEM 29/09/2014 8:06:35 AM 8336 (0x2090) We don't use NAP. Can anyone shed some light on this, its not effecting performance or usability but it would be nice not having the component always listed as critical so when something does go wrong it's immediately obvious. Cheers, Hynesy
  5. Hi Experts, I have a WSUS server installed on network on which MSE definition updates are installed, but the MSE on the client computer is not getting updates from it. When I click the update button it gives me error "Virus and spyware definitions couldn't be updated". The error code i am getting is 0x80244018. The definition updates couldn't be installed please try again later. I also have TMG on my network as a default gateway, I want to update MSE from WSUS not from microsoft update. Do I have to change rules....??? or any suggesstions that how MSE can be automatically updated from WSUS, the WSUS setting is saved into a GROUP Policy and applied.... Please advice...... Is there any setting possible that when user clicks on Update in Microsoft Security Essential the update request is forwarded to WSUS Server....????
  6. Good morning everyone, This site has helped me understand and get started with SCCM 2012 like no other however I do have a question. We are starting to want to push out patches to our dev environment. I read about the Automatic Deployment rule from the SCCM 2012 guide but we aren't ready to go full speed just yet. My idea was to make a collection with the 8 dev servers in it and setup a maintenance window to push the updates out at a specific time. Does this sound good or is there any other ways this can be done? I'm willing to try anything. Thanks, Dreday
  7. Hi, I have done a search on this matter to seek help but couldn't really find anything What I am looking for is help to set up a fully functioning server with a reliable group policy that could be implemented in a school I know the very basic of setting up the AD, DNS, DHCP. I have got this far and added a user that can successfully log in. What I would now want to know is what are the best practices to set up group policies etc Could someone put together a basic step by step of what to do. I'm not really asking for details otherwise people will be here all day and night. Just a simple AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, etc and so forth Not really sure what else to add as I am fairly new to network etc and I am really wanting to learn more! Would it be easier to create different group policies such as a student one, teacher one, and so forth? Kind regards Tom
  8. Hi All. We have SCCM 2012R2 installed on one of our server and have been using it for around 8 months for managing and deploying client machines. We deployed the clients through a GPO by changing the WSUS server although we have not yet deployed it to any servers. We don't exactly plan on using many of the features of SCCM on the servers but we want to remove our old WSUS server which currently only supplies updates for Server machines. What are the best practices on this and is it possible to use the WSUS server without the client installed (The Classic way just for servers)? One thing I'm most worried about is the servers automatically restarting because of an update, is it possible to disable this? Thanks
  9. Morning, I have the opportunity to upgrade my SCCM 2012 SP1 server base OS to Server 2012. In addition, I now have the capacity to spread the load of the SCCM server across multiple SCCM servers. But before I dive in, I would like to know a few things that do not seem to be well documented. Has anyone tried to Upgrade a Server 2008 R2 to a Server 2012, with said server being an SCCM 2012 server? What were Your results\impressions? Would it be better to setup new servers instead? I aim to spread the various SCCM functions over several machines (until now, 1 server has been doing ALL the SCCM tasks) I know its possible to export the Task Sequences, but is it possible to export the Device and User lists from one SCCM to another? How would this affect the SCCM Clients? Can the backup data be used for this? My goal is to have 1 main server With the main roles, a Distribution/Update server, a Reporting & Catalog server and then the Fallback server. All will be running Server 2012. This is one site with a Device and user Count of 2000. Cheers and thanks in advance! Anthony
  10. Hi, I am currently in the process of setting up a server at home, for educational purposes as I wish to pursue a future career into the IT sector when I finish my College Diploma in IT. I have setup a domain on Windows Server 2008 R2. Also I have set up a remote desktop service that allows workstations to remotely connect to the server. o Although this is not neccesary, I am purely doing this for education purposes. I would now like to achieve the opposite. So I would like to be able to log into a user/onto a computer which is connected to my domain/server The reason for this is because I want to be able to easily see the results on my PC connected to my domain, without having to get up and go to the computer itself. Lazy I know, but once again for education purposes. If anyone could help it would be muchly appreciated

  12. Help with SCCM and Active Directory On same server. Well hello my name is Zaper and I'm from Israel First thing first: I never seen an SCCM in my life this is my first time and I got no idea how to use it. Now few years ago a guy that used to work here installed the SCCM in our Active Directory server so I have on the same server both SCCM 2007 and my active directory. (Windows server 2003). my manager came over and sad "well we got this something that supposed to work but no one have a clue how to use it so you do it". Now all I need to happen is I want to push a package that will be installed on certain clients in my active directory. When I had a new client to my AD it wont show on SCCM but! When I click: Connect to site data base > connect to site data base on this server > browse I see the new client I added to the AD. Please If I got no chance to make it work please let me know. Sorry for bad grammar Zaper.
  13. Hi guys.. we have a server (08r2) that does all. wsus, eset rac, pdq inventory, print server , etc .. we only have this one box.. I was wondering if i could house SCCM within a VM inside this server to play with package deployment and stuff or if i would need a separate box (no budget). server is pretty robust and fast and its currently managing about 100pc's . please let me know thank you
  14. Hello folks, How can I include the terminal server build in a TS? I have around 20 apps to install and for Terminal Server(Remote Deskop Services) the role has to be installed first and then set to ''change user /install" to install apps and then revert back to " change user /execute". I ran as TS step as command but it failed with no apparent reasons. The log is very vague, so hoping someone already went thru this. Thanks!!
