Console showing Client - No

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am having an issue where many devices (100+ in an environment of about 500) are appearing with a Client - NO status in my SCCM 2012 console where they had been YES before. When I examine the device, it has the client installed and looks to be configured OK (shows site FQDN, SiteCode, etc). See below

I've read that there could be issues found in the ClientIDManagerStartup.log so I looked here and found an error

This has now led me down a long road of troubleshooting WMI errors. Just wanted to see if there were any other suggestions if anyone has seen issues like this in the past? Or any recommended approaches to repairing/investigating WMI issues, if that is the issue?

I found that in a few cases this was related to the client getting stuck in Provisioning Mode due to a "Restart PC" task in the OSD. The problem is that the Restart PC task at the end of the task sequence wasn't properly letting the client close itself out of provisioning mode.

By changing the following registry keys and rebooting the PC, I was able to get some of these clients reporting properly again.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\CcmExec
Provisioning Mode set to FALSE (was set to true)
SystemTaskExcludes set to *BLANK* (was set to a variety of things)

However, the issue still stands that PCs that were previously reporting OK, have begun to stop reporting. Here is a ClientIDManagerStartup.log for another device that isn't reporting properly
