No hardware and software inventory for some clients

Question

I have one primary site and several secondary sites at remote offices. On a couple of the remote sites, I am not getting hardware or software inventory from any clients except the site server itself. There is nothing in the resource explorer for any of the clients. The client on the site server was installed manually but pushed out from the console InventoryAgent.logto PCs and laptops for the site.

I have attached the inventoryagent log for one of the clients. Could someone help with this?

Thanks

Naz

How did you configure your inventories?

Thanks for the quick response Peter.

Schedule is set to run every day for both hardware and software inventory client agents. The max custom MIF file size is set to 250KB. Please let me know if you require any other information.

From the log you posted, client sent its inventory report to Site server. You will have to check site server log files if there is any problem in processing the inventory info to database.

Please check this blog on troubleshooting the inventory sent by clients ? http://blogs.technet.com/b/sudheesn/archive/2010/05/31/troubleshooting-sccm-part-ii-hardware-inventory.aspx

can you check if you see any issues for inventory_data_loader component processing clien info?

Here's a relevant section from dataldr.log on the primary site server for a 'problem' PC:

Does this indicate some problem? Sorry I have very little experience of SCCM.

Could you please open the file with notepad and see if the computer is what you are looking issue with.

If so,try to run the Discovery data record cycle agent on the client(which has issues) and see if that resolves it.

for inventory data loader issues (failed to process the bad mif files) and various reasons why this occurs ,take a look at this blog http://eskonr.com/2010/01/inventory-data-loader-issues-in-sccm-inboxes/

Hello Eswar

I am still trying to resolve this issue!

I have just dug out an old email from previous sysadmin who implied that the issue is to do with a mismatch in serial numbers between the site control file and the records in the SiteControl table within SQL. There were also a lot of delta records created in the SiteControl table for the serial number when there should only be 1 master and 1 delta.

Unfortunately the sysadmin did not document the fix! How can I clean up the SiteControl table so that the hardware and software inventory is added to the database.

Naz

An update:

I deleted the managements points on two of the secondary sites where the clients hardware and software inventories were not appearing in the database, now it's working. I am now seeing the inventory being collected. I am not sure why it's working now and whether it's ok to add the management points back. Any advice would be appreciated.
