SCCM 2012 - remove 2007

After I migrate to SCCM 2012, what is the best way to get rid of SCCM 2007? Should I uninstall it from each of the servers and then delete the information in the System Management container? What happens if I just shut off the servers and then delete the information from the System Management container?
