need some advice... more specifically, some direction... I have a situation where I have to image a machine to Win 7 Enterprise but need the machine to automatically set every new network as a Private(Work) network. This has to be part of the initial image due to the configuration of the networks at our remote locations. I am using standalone image media created with SCCM2012 because each of our remote locations has its own individual ISP which are not connected to our CAS. We install a lightweight, no-touch VPN software to connect them back to our main office (and CAS) at the end of the SCCM Task sequence during the OS deployment. When the VPN software we use to automatically connect to our corporate office network is installed, it creates 2 virtual network adapters in addition to the physical NIC in the machine. These machines cannot be joined to our domain until this connection is made. When the first connection is made by the VPN client, the network is discovered as an "unidentified" network as the machine is not able to joined to our domain before this VPN connection is made. I have been able to get this to work after loading a machine in a lab environment by editing local GPO settings, effectively resetting all the network type settings by deleting 3 registry keys and recreating them with empty defaults, then rebooting. When the user logs back in, all 3 networks are "rediscovered" and set as Private(Work). Once the machine is then joined to our domain over the VPN connection, the previously unidentified network is becomes recognized as a domain network and is then set as a Private(Work) network as it should be. The vpn software does not initially connect fully and allow the domain join if the unidentified network is set as Public. I'm terribly sorry for the long-winded back story, but I felt its important to explain why I need this help. (besides, more information is easier to process than not enough) so, my question is this: how can I deploy an OS with specific local Computer GPOs policies enabled? When the machine is sysprep'ed, it resets all of the local GPOs back to defaults, and by finding a way to automate this, I can take advantage of more automation in the TS. A unique GUID is created when a network is discovered, so I can't create a .reg file to import with post-installation scripts. The Network List Manager Policies are not exported when Security Settings are exported from Group policy Editor, so I can't use that.

please, is there no one who can provide me with some direction? is there some other solution I could try; am I just missing something? I was able to make this work in SCCM2007 using similar TS methods... I'm getting desperate at this point - I am happy to provide any log files or documentation necessary to work through this problem.

I apologize for omitting the log files that might be necessary to solicit the help previously requested. I can see in the log file where the ApplyNetwork Settings step failed, I just need some help understanding what went wrong... Let me start by saying Thank you! for writing such awesome tutorials - you guys rock! I have somewhat of a unique (at least I think it's unique) situation. I have several remote sites that all have their own local ISPs - these sites are not networked to the point of being able to access the CAS directly. We are using Win 7 Enterprise so we can take advantage of MS DirectAccess and/or a 3rd party zero touch VPN client. My trouble(s) are this: I need to upgrade some Windows XP SP3 machines that reside in these 'independent' sites to Windows 7 Enterprise. I have created a TS on Standalone DVD Media which, in testing, works great with one exception: I can not seem to migrate the TCP/IP info from target machine into the newly imaged Win7Ent build. Each machine has a static IP address that must be reapplied in order for internet access to function. Per a company security policy, these sites do not have DHCP working locally. In my testing, I have not been successful in migrating the static TCP/IP values. In my TS, I have the enabled the setting under Capture File and Settings> Capture Network Settings > Migrate network adapter configuration... not sure why its not reapplying the configuration? I read in TechNet that if this is enabled, it should overwrite the step "Apply Network Settings" > "windows will configure network adapters to use DHCP by default..." sidenote: I also have the TS trying to migrate computername which is also not working as I believe it should. While this is not terribley important, it would save me some extra time when I have our helpdesk come back around and touch the machines to reinstall some peripherals which our locations must use.

maybe i'm not being clear enough with my question, let me try again. Here's what I've done so far... 1. I loaded windows 7 pro sp1 onto a test computer. 2. I configured it with all the custom software, applications, drivers, etc. 3. I used to sysprep to create a generalized OOBE image and then I captured a customized .wim file with imagex. 4. I created a bootable Flash drive and copied all the same files and folders found in the original Windows 7 Pro SP1 ISO to the flash drive and overwrote the original install.wim file with the customized one i captured in #3 above. 5. I have been installing Windows 7 Pro SP1 using this flash drive system successfully for several months now... but now i need to begin deploying Win7 on a larger scale and to remote sites in our network. I feel like building another machine and capturing the system with SCCM is a duplication of work that i've already done, i have been trying to wrap my head around how the deployment process/tutorial would change (the one found here http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/667-deploy-windows-7/ ) if i were to create everything using the installation files that I am already using. I've searched the web for OS deployment tutorials using SCCM2007 and almost every single one includes steps for building a machine and capturing the image with SCCM, but in my case, i have already done this. maybe i'm missing some key step, or I'm ignorant to what's actually at play in the build/capture process, but I clearly need some more direction. I was hoping to find this in your forums. I just dont understand how doing the same thing twice makes anything 'easier'.

okay, so then i guess i'm a little confused as to how the tutorial would change for someone who already has a customized .wim file that is ready to be deployed. I was reading the tutorial at http://www.windows-n...ploy-windows-7/ and trying to figure out where the process would ultimately differ... if i copy the files that i'm currently using to install windows 7 pro manually, then all the files i would want to distribute/deploy would be included in that folder. Is there a tutorial of how to create a deployment of Windows 7 using just the standard default OS files that would have been included on an original install dvd or in the iso that i can get from Microsoft? having to spend the extra time to configure SCCM to capture a pc when i already have a custom .wim is me duplicating some of the work i've aleady done.

Hello, love the site, lots of good information.... Firstly, I'm new to SCCM 2007 and I've been tasked with deploying Win 7 Pro across our company to the remote sites of which there are many. I work in our corporate offices and have been installing/upgrading our users to Windows 7 as machines are replaced. I used WAIK to create a bootable UFD and have been using that to install a custom WIM that I created and captured using Win7's native sysprep. My custom .WIM files contain user/role-specific software packages. I have multiple installs based on departmental requirements and some of them even use the unattended.xml files to configure the machine with very little hands-on work. My question: Is capturing a 7 Pro image using SCCM a requirement for being able to deploy 7 Pro?
