OSD task works on XP but not Win 7

Question

I have setup sccm 2007 sp2 r2 for the purpose of migrating windows xp machines to windows 7. I have a task created that installs windows 7 and office 2010. I have this task advertised to a collection. If I add a xp machine to this collection it will receive the advertisement and run the task with no problems. If I put a Windows 7 machine in the same collection it will receive the advertisement but it will not launch at the end of the countdown. I would like to be able to use this collection in case I need to re-image a windows 7 machine. The task is set to run on any platform so I am not sure why this will not run.

Does anyone have any ideas that could help me out?

Hello and welcome. What does the advertisement report say? Have you checked it?

Open your SCCM console go to System Status, Advertisment status, double click on your advertisment and on the right scren do a right click show messages

Thanks for the response

Here are the 2 entries I receive in the Advertisement Report

First Entry:

Program started for advertisement "PP120014" ("PP100029" - "*").

Command line: "D:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\TSLauncher.exe"

Working directory: D:\WINDOWS\system32\

User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Second Entry:

The program for advertisement "PP120014" failed ("PP100029" - "*"). A failure exit code of 87 was returned.

User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Possible cause: Systems Management Server (SMS) determines status for each program it executes. If SMS cannot find or correlate any installation status Management Information Format (MIF) files for the program, it uses the program's exit code to determine status. An exit code of 87 is considered a failure.

Solution: For more information on the exit code, refer to the documentation for the program you are distributing. This program will be retried.

A quick search on the net shown that...Error 87 The parameter is incorrect. Ref : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368542%28VS.85%29.aspx

I am not sure where to find the parameter for the program. It is trying to launch the TSlauncher.exe to start and operating system deployment, any idea where I would look to find that information?

Sure. Go to Software Distribution, Packages, Select your package and expand it. Select Programs on the left side and at the righr side you should see the list of programs that are set to run for the package. Double click that and thats the command

Because this is an OSD I am not sure what package it is trying to start with. The only packages I have listed under software distribution that are related to OSD are MDT Package, Settings package, USMT Package and Config Manager Client package.
