Hello everyone, Our company has about 15 physical servers and 30 virtual servers. Due the large amounts of service requests by our colleagues we are behind in documenting the network infrastructure and the servers specifically. If I have to document them all manually it will take at least a full week to complete, so I was wondering if there are any tools for Server 2008 R2 servers to export information. Mainly interested in one or more tools to get the following information: - Network card settings - Disk Management (Disks, size, online/offline, status) - Present network shares - Installed Windows Roles and Features - Page file (location, maximum size) - Device Manager - Installed software (Version, install date, supplier) - Services (all services, their start up type, logon as and status) ANY help in the form of tools that you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Opensource could be a problem, I don't know much about systems/software that monitor the network. I do personally just LOVE System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2. It does cost you money, but the things you can do with it .. hmm .

Good morning people, I'm having a problem in my test environment. I've got three physical machines running Windows Server 2012 R2. One being a domain controller and the file server (I've got a bunch of disks in there, one for every Hyper-V host to store the VM's on) and two Hyper-V hosts which are not clustered. I've got a virtual network of 16 servers running without any problems whatsoever, the only problem that I'm facing is that I cannot move virtual machines from one host to another. Due my limited hardware capabilities I'm forced to move some VM's around so the CPU doesn't have to be at 70%+ most of the time. I've got two virtual Windows 8 desktop machines which I want to move to my SRV-GAL-HV01 (physical) machine. I've set the share and NTFS rights on both the disks on full control for the computer accounts of both the Hyper-V machines. I'm logged in as a Domain Administrator which also has full control set on both the disks. I even tried to add "everyone" with full control. After that I tried to use this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134199.aspx I went through step 1, 2 and 4. This is the error that I'm getting: There was an error during move operation, Virtual machine migration operation failed at migration source. The security check failed. Virtual machine migration operation for 'WKS-GAL-01' failed at migration source 'SRV-GAL-HV02'. (Virtual machine ID 5817FCE8-BF3B-4489-AFA1-E98012A5E512). Migration did not succeed. User does not have enough rights for '\\SRV-GAL-01\Data HV-02\virtual disks'. (SRV-GAL-01 being the physical DC/File server) Is there anyone that could help me fix these problems? I know that the test environment isn't ideal (DC + file on same server etc) but I'm hoping someone knowns a fix or something that can help me determine the problem. Regards, Mr. Cavemen

Has this something to do with the 'generation' of virtual machine that you create, or does the problem exist in both generations of VM's? I'm currently setting up my own testlab (Server 2012 R2 installed with some 2008R2 VM's) and I'd like to preform some migrations to Server 2012R2. Guess I'll have to test it all very thoroughly. Ohai guys, I've started to build my own test lab to build a small to medium sized network with Windows Server 2012. I do not have enough server hardware so I used two desktops with plenty of RAM to help out. Firstly I want to create a Hyper-V cluster with two servers, this however does not go that well just yet. One of the Hyper-V hosts does not have drivers for the lan controller. I have this lan controller: LAN Netwerk Controller Intel I217V Netwerk interfaces Gigabit Ethernet I've already tried to follow this guide: http://www.ivobeerens.nl/2012/08/08/enable-the-intel-82579v-nic-in-windows-server-2012/ in the hope it would work for my system aswell. My first question is, does anyone know a way to install Windows 8 drivers? My seccond question is, in case I cannot install the drivers, would I be able to create a cluster between a Windows 8 Hyper-V host and a Server 2012 Hyper-V host? I know this is not something you'd normally do but I want to play around a bit while I wait for more server hardware to come my way. I hope you guys can help me out a bit! Thanks. Regards, Dennis

Where have you stored the backups? Can you confirm that there is more then just the one present in that folder?

Goodmorning everyone, We were experiencing some problems with our Windows 2008R2 Enterprise Terminal server. These were mostly GPO related and have been solved for the most part. We now want to get rid of one final warning that keeps popping up in our event viewer (ID 1530): Uw registerbestand is nog steeds in gebruik door andere toepassingen of services. Het bestand wordt nu verwijderd. De toepassingen en services die het registerbestand nu gebruiken, werken achteraf mogelijk niet meer goed. DETAIL - 1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-957491786-3808256167-313183649-7283: Process 1312 (\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\svchost.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-957491786-3808256167-313183649-7283\Printers\DevModePerUser What it says is that the registery file is still in use by a someone or something. We noticed the word "Printer" and went searching for possible solution and cause. Apparently this error happens every single time a users logs out when he/she took their locally installed printers with them while connecting to the terminal server. If we make a RDP file and disable the local resource - Printers, then we do not get this error. We do not need our users to be able to use their own printers (or any printer for that matter). My question then is, how do I block them from adding their locally installed printers when they connect to our terminal server? Through a GPO we can block them from printing to their local printers, but that does not solve anything for us. I've been searching the internet for two days without luck. At the RDP-TCP properties I can disable the use of LPT and COM ports, but these days printers are usually USB or network connected. Does anyone know if what I want is possible (without creating a RDP file for every single user for them to use)? Would help us quite a lot! Regards, Dennis

Thanks for your reply, All computers have the same update policy via collections. Updates are not to be installed manually.

I have a number of Windows 7 clients that are not properly receiving/installing software updates. For example, software updates for Endpoint Protection are deployed using an Automatic Deployment Rule for Endpoint Protection, where in the tab ''Error'' we receive different errors. As you can see in the screenshot below, many computers get an error with description ''Irreparable error during installation''. If anyone knows a solution to this problem, I will be very grateful!

I'll see what we'll come up with tomorrow morning when checking out that file. I'll post an update soon.

When I go to monitoring I can see that there are 4 things placed there for the collection "unknown computers". - Windows 7 Deploy - Software update group - Internet explorer 9 and IE9 langauge pack - Automatic deployment rule for security and critical windows updates - Automatic deployment rule for microsoft office updates (workstations). We can deploy the unknown computers after we do clear PXE on them, but there are just a few systems that aren't even registered as unknown computers. They don't appear to exist at all and yet won't accept the deployments. Manually adding them to the system based on MAC and / or Bios GUID didn't help either.

We've created a query that allows us to search for MAC adresses within our database. We've confirmed that those systems are not in our database (or atleast not with mac adresses). We've also tried your method which confirmed that the systems aren't there under their mac adresses. Regards, Dennis

Hey guys, I'm an intern at a high school in The Netherlands where we rolled out SCCM 2012 a few weeks ago. We've used one of our classrooms for testing the computers. Now that the school has started again we're encountering a few problems. We have about 5-8 systems that do not appear to be in SCCM in any way but the systems will not deploy. The unknowns have different mac adresses then these systems, the bios GUID isn't logged in our system yet, the ip adress that the systems receive isn't logged in SCCM either. Is there any other unique ID that we can search for? It's possible that the systems that won't run are the systems that we used for testing and that the systems are somehow still within sccm, but we don't know how to find out.
