Building XP image - Client does not have an ID ??

Question

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to build my first XP image with OSD. Booting from PXE.

The computer I use is in the SCCM database. I did deploy Windows 7 on it many times with OSD, booting from PXE. Everything works great.

But I can't do the same if I push an XP OS to that computer.

I have followed every step outlined in this guide :

http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/570-how-can-i-deploy-windows-xp-sp3-using-sccm-2007-sp1-part-1/

It stops right after WinPe is initializing the network connections.

smsts.log is attached and it contains this error :

Client does not have an ID. Please ensure you have created a record for this client in the SMS database.

Invalid advise flags (Error: 80040001; Source: Windows)

I'm stunned since this computer is in the database, it is a known computer, known MAC address, known GUID.

Any ideas ?

Thx so much !

if you delete that client from the All Systems collection and try again what happens

Thx Anyweb!!

You pointed me to the right direction .... in fact, I searched for the client in the All systems collection and found 2 records. One was obsolete, probably due to many reinstalation or something. So I delete that record and retry and it now works. Thx again.

I should say, by looking at how many times you answer questions here, you seem to be some kind of genius! ;)

Good day !

David
