Upgrading 2007 to 2012

Question

Hi

We currently use SCCM 2007, running on a 2008r2 server.

We also use a 2008r2 server running SQL 2008 for SCCM use only.

I understand the 'side by side' migration but I am unsure about the SQL setup

My question is...

Apart from a new server for SCCM 2012, should a new SQL server be built and SCCM 2012 pointed at this, or should the SCCM 2012 server be pointed at the current SQL server?

If using the current SQL, will 2012 use the same database instance or create a new one?

cheers

i would definetly use a new SQL server, I would also host that SQL server on the same server as Configuration Manager 2012, during setup you can specify an instance or use the default

Our company policy is to have the "server's" and "SQL" server's on different ESX box's, so it will have to be seperate servers
