  1. Hi Aurock, I'm having the exact same issue. Were you ever able to find a solution to this? TIA, Paul
  2. Actually, I was just looking at the AppDiscovery.log, and saw the following: Performing detection of app deployment type VLC(ScopeId_275CBFC1-259C-4F0C-82A7-9A6A703C862E/DeploymentType_b614fe1d-f1df-428b-909d-54657f77a633, revision 3) for system. 3. in looking at the logs (ccmexec.log & the smsts.log in the ccm folder), I think that the second app (PaperCut MF Client) is invoking a reboot outside of SCCM's control. Have a look in the NT event logs to see if you see a reboot being called around 10:53am (client time). Perhaps you can place a "restart computer" step in between the application installs until you can figure out which one(s) require a reboot and control it. 4. Also check the root of the c: drive for a folder called smstslog (I believe). There may be some logs left in that directory that are not being copied to the ccm\logs directory in the event of a failed deployment.
  5. Schikitar, The smsts.log file should be present on a machine, even if it failed the osd. Have you tried enabling f8 support? If you have, you could try launching task manager during the osd to see if you can see any errant processes that may be causing the issue. Please post all the logs from the ccm\logs directory from the next failed deployment. Also, have you looked at the reports from a machine that failed? Does that give any clues as to the cause? Paul
  6. Schikitar, The only time I've seen the OSD hang like that is when the app that's being installed is waiting for a user response. Is it the same app that's hanging the process, or different ones? Have you tried enabling F8 support and viewing the smsts.log file in real time (speaking of that, it's missing in the logs you posted). Another thing to do would be to try installing the app in question as system on a fully functional system to see what the behavior is (does it install successfully or does it hang).
  7. Hi J Mac, I came across a powershell script that does most of what you need. You can probably tweak it to better suit your needs. You can find it at the link below. http://www.powershellpro.com/why-i-no-longer-hate-writing-documentation/614/ Hope this helps! Paul
  8. I have used the following in an SCCM OSD to apply updates that are not present in the updates folder. It worked well for my needs. http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/01/04/workaround-for-installing-office-updates-during-an-image-build/
  9. have you advertised to the "All Systems" collection, or "Unknown Computers" collection?
  10. The following line from the smspxe.log file indicates that the machine is already known to SCCM, which will prevent it from being imaged again until you delete it from the console (assuming the MAC below is tied to the machine in question): MAC: GUID: Status: 18:A9:05:F9:6E:C5, 816A6538-BB0B-11DF-BBDA-05F96EC518A9: device is in the database.]LOG]!><time="09:28:15.790-120" date="07-03-2014" Try deleting the device from the SCCM console and see if it then allows you to image.
  11. you say you have two primary sites, are they independant, or are you using a CAS? If on a CAS, have you advertised from the CAS? On the site where it's not working, have you reviewed the smspxe.log file to see what it's logging when that mahcine pxe boots?
  12. here's an export of a TS I've used. It checks to see if Java 1.6 is installed, and if it is, removes it and installs 1.6_45. It then installs 1.7_51. Java.xml
  13. Hi JimmyJ, I was looking for something similar to use during OSD. I found the following link and was able to come up with a solution based on it (also posted what works for my situation): http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/enabledisable-network-interface-via-command-line/17a21634-c5dd-4038-bc0a-d739209f5081?page=2&msgId=a3a0ad24-56d1-4768-9c5d-a4487f36bf37 Hope this helps. Paul
  14. I would check the clientlocation.log file first, see what MP your client is communicating with, then verify that the package is present on the DP.
  15. Hi PRaj, Since this is posted in the SCCM 2007 forum, is it safe to assume you're running that environment? If so, and you're using the install.wim option to install a clean copy of Windows 7 as part of your OSD, I believe that's an expected behavior. The only way I know of around that is to build your own wim file and use that during deployment. Paul
  16. Hi BKskinsfan, You don't need a license to run VMPlayer (just workstation). As for the partitioning step, I don't have access to my environment right now, but that step should only take literally seconds to complete. Can you PM me screenshots of your OSD TS? Also, have you enabled logging during OSD? If not, you may want to do that to get more granular logging. Have you looked at the SMSTS.log file from a machine that has taken a long time to complete? Are these machines pulling content from a local or remote dp during the OSD phase? Are they running the installs from the DP or downloading content before installing? Paul
  17. Hi BKskinsfan, How is your environment set up? Do you have child primaries in each site, or are you using DP's? If this is the only site experiencing issues, I would start with the network side of things. Is the tech using the same work area when imaging? Is he/she using a desktop switch or a hub? Have you verified that the ports used for imaging are configured correctly (i.e. not set for half duplex or some other configuration that would impact imaging)? If you don't have a VM environment in place to test, perhaps you can use a physical workstation in that site, install vmplayer and kick off a VM to use for troubleshooting? Feel free to pm me with any questions. Paul
  18. hi, I ran into an issue whereby, because the DP was originally marked for prestaged content, none of the packages were being sent. I therefore had a need to redistribute multiple packages to the same DP. Using the above, I was able to accomplish this with a slight tweak. Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else has a need to refresh multiple packges on a single DP. First, you need to run a report to get a list of packages (easiest one I found was the "Content referenced by a specific task sequence" report). Once run, export the results, and use excel to clean up the report so that you only have the PKGID and save it as a plain text file (in my case, I saved it as C:\tools\PKGID.txt). Second, create a DP Group and place the DP in question into this new group Third, save the below as a powershell script and execute as you would any other powershell script: $PackageID = (Get-Content c:\tools\PKGID.txt) $DPGroup = "Test" $DPQuery = Get-WmiObject -Namespace "Root\sms\site_xxx" -Class SMS_DistributionPointGroup -Filter "Name='$DPGroup'" ForEach ( $PackageID in $PackageID ) { $DPQuery.RedistributePackage($PackageID) } Hope this saves someone some searching!
  19. If all you need to do is distinguish between different functions for these machines, could you not drop a sig file on each machine type during OSD and use that as the condition?
  20. Check out the following: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrgeneral/thread/48011e95-5057-4981-b9c8-2738cbefad2a/
  21. I do recall having an issue getting pxe installed on one of my sites before, but can't remember exactly what the problem was. I think it was an issue with wds not working. I have seen an article for troubleshooting pxe on technet,http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2011/01/05/troubleshooting-the-pxe-service-point-and-wds-in-configuration-manager-2007.aspx. Try running through that. I'll see if I can dig up my notes tomorrow.
  22. hi tschmidt1, Have you created a new ts, or just modified the one you already deployed? If the latter, have you created a mandatory assignment and modified the program re-run behavior to allow it to re-run?
  23. If you look at the report for the deployment, you should be find the exit code that was returned, then just add that to the list of codes that SCCM considers successful for that portion of the OSD.
  24. Hi Spinnz, I recently had a need to update the BIOS during OSD. I had initially tried updating the BIOS while the computer was still in WinPE, but this was not successful. I ended up getting it to work by putting the steps to update the BIOS into the task sequence after the OS was laid down. I didn't have to create a batch file to accomplish the task, I just used the "run command line" step from the built in task sequence steps. If you need, I can post more info tomorrow. Hope this helps. Paul
