  1. Hello, We are just starting down the path of SCCM and building out a DEV environment. Will install 1702 then upgrade to 1710 and then possibly 1802. Looking at the Hardware and Server requirements wondering if anyone could shed any light into their builds. There are a number of posts out there talking about the (2) different install scenarios. Do more people install SQL locally on the Primary site server or do they install it on a remote server - which could be beneficially if you're looking at clustering your SQL environment. We're currently an Oracle shop which really doesn't help us out. The other Q I have is in regards to the hardware requirements. Our PROD environment will only start off with approximately 1000 clients. Reading the MS recommendations they seem rather beefy especially if you do install the SQL server locally (16 cores / 96GB ram). Are those numbers exaggerated? Thank you ZT
  2. Hello all! Long time visitor and browse often, haven't posted much (if at all) since registering. Thanks for a great site with lots of great discussions! Here is my situation: I am working on implementing an automated way to get all our laptops onto Bitlocker. We run a Dell shop here, so I have tasks that are automating the process (which work beautifully), but for some reason my hardware inventory schedule that I have assigned to my test collections don't appear to be running on the clients assigned to that collection. The laptop that I am doing testing with does everything it's supposed to fine far as the task sequencing goes when it gets into the collection, but thus far I've only been able to get it to move collections by manually kicking off a hardware inventory on it - for some reason the schedule doesn't seem to be running the hardware inventory like I would expect (IE a TPM status change). Could anyone give me some direction to start troubleshooting this? I'm including screens of my current Client Settings. Thanks much! Chad Edit: Sorry, just realized this probably would have been better placed in Troubleshooting, tools, and tips.
  3. Hi all / Anyweb, Hope you are all well. I am about to order some new hardware, pretty much a beefy desktop pc, which i am hoping to do some labs with. Would this be any good for running simply labs, say with up to 5 vms running with server 2008 as the host ? is the following any good for such a task: i7-3770k 16gb memory main hd ssd 128gb sata 2nd hdd 2tb sata Any info or help appreciated, Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi we've a large number of devices with a few PCI and PCIe devices installed, not in the same slots. would like to push out a configuration script, the settings of which, for long-winded reasons or prerequisites, depends on how many, and which, slots are in use. the solution to this would therefore be query based collections and separate packages containing the variables and then deployment en masse allowing configuration to be tailored to the hardware. -hopefully avoiding the months of work which would be a manual visual audit and inspection and then collation into collections. NOTE: it's actually irrelevant what the devices are, more whether there is, or isn't a device present in a slot, or which combination of slots are in use the problem with this plan is i can't actually find anything on which to base my query in SCCM 2012 itself, i can query an individual machine with powershell and return the slots in use. so i know the WMI classes and attributes exist but cannot find how to include these in a collection query, nor any way to report this in general. modifying and importing an updated sms_def.mof would be great but i'm unsure of what to add to this file to include the correct attributes. does anyone have any insight or experience of this, or any where they can point me in the right direction to get the correct details collected by the client and then to process this into a valid collection. thanks for your help
  5. I'm Having a little trouble writing a report. My goal is to report back the following fields: Last Time the Hardware inventory was run, Computer Name, Asset Tag (Bios Serial Number), IP Address, Operating System, OS Service Pack level, time the computer was Last Rebooted, Last Logged in User, Domain Name, OU, and AD Site. I've managed to gather most everything but I'm getting duplicate entries. My report returns over 13000 rows when I only have 6000 clients. Much of this is coming from the IP Address field since if the computer has an IPv6 address it returns another row. Below is my query and I appreciate any help anyone can give since I am very much a beginner in SQL. SELECT DISTINCT v_GS_Workstation_Status.LastHWScan, v_R_System.Netbios_Name0, v_GS_PC_BIOS.SerialNumber0, v_RA_System_IPAddresses.IP_Addresses0, v_GS_Operating_System.Caption0 as C054, v_GS_Operating_System.Version0, v_GS_Operating_System.LastBootUpTime0, v_R_System.User_Name0, v_R_System.Resource_Domain_OR_Workgr0, v_R_System.AD_Site_Name0 FROM v_R_System JOIN v_GS_Workstation_Status on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_Workstation_Status.ResourceID JOIN v_RA_System_IPAddresses on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_RA_System_IPAddresses.ResourceID JOIN v_GS_PC_BIOS on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_PC_BIOS.ResourceID JOIN v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_Operating_System.ResourceID ORDER BY v_GS_Workstation_Status.LastHWScan, v_R_System.Netbios_Name0, v_GS_PC_BIOS.SerialNumber0, v_RA_System_IPAddresses.IP_Addresses0, v_GS_Operating_System.Caption0, v_GS_Operating_System.Version0, v_GS_Operating_System.LastBootUpTime0, v_R_System.User_Name0, v_R_System.Resource_Domain_OR_Workgr0, v_R_System.AD_Site_Name0
